OMG I would love to be in London for that week! All my worlds are converging:) My beloved Chicago Cubs (I know, weird for a Kiwi born Aussie with Scottish parents and 13 years spent living in Malaysia - but I love baseball) are playing 2 games against the enemy in London (June 24-25). The Ashes (cricket) is on in London (June 28 to July 3), Go England! Then Guns 'n' Roses June 30 at Hyde Park, and of course Def Leppard July 1 Wembley. Think I'll have to rob a bank, lol.

I'm a bit bias now lol....but I'd encourage you to go. I mean, how often does Skid Row get to Austrailia? I always find with concerts It's a much different experience in person than watching videos. IMO Erik just has infectious energy that has a way of pulling you into the show when you're there. Reckless Love would be great to see as well. They're a band that we rarely, if ever, get to see playing here in the USA. Awesome! Glad you had such a good time. Skid Row is playing here (Brisbane, Australia) next month and I was wondering if I should go? It's a cool venue (renovated WW2 hanger) that's just a ferry ride across the river from me. TBH, I was more enticed by the opening band, 'Reckless Love' who seem very fun:) . Haven't seen Skid Row since 1990 in Brisbane, but like you I'm more excited to see them with Erik than Sebastian. So much energy there in your video! The Skid Row Brisbane concert (sold out) was supposed to be last night (Wednesday), but as the doors opened the show was cancelled due to Erik coming down with the flu. Reckless Love had previously pulled out of the tour:( It will be one hell of an effort to sing with flu and fly across the country on 3 consecutive nights for the remainder of the tour: Sydney - Friday Adelaide - Saturday Melbourne - Sunday That's a brutal schedule for a 20 year old, let alone a flu-ridden band!

Went to see Iron Maiden a couple of weeks back at Leeds Arena. Maiden are getting better and better, their live sound has taken a quantum leap this last couple of tours, it’s crystal clear. This latest tour is based around their new album Senjutsu and their 86 classic Somewhere in Time. It was a real treat to see some of those old classics live.
It’s always interesting to note that at a Maiden show the queues for the merch stand are bigger than the beer stalls. Says a lot about their fans.
Caught somewhere in time Stranger in a strange land The writing on the wall Days of future past The Time Machine The prisoner Death of the Celts Can I play with madness Heaven can wait Alexander the Great Fear of the dark Iron maiden ——————- Hell on earth The trooper Wasted years

Tickets booked for The Darkness on their Permission to Land 20th anniversary tour.
The first batch of dates sold out in a day so more went on sale today. TBH the venues this time are smaller than those they played on the Motor Heart tour a couple of years back, the show I went wasn’t as packed as previous tours so maybe the smaller venues was a reaction to that? But they’ve miscalculated the popularity of their debut album and the size of venues they’ve chosen.

Saw The Darkness last night on their Permission to Land 20th anniversary tour. Every single show has sold out and last nights at the newly opened Wolverhampton Civic was (I believe) the biggest on the run with nearly 4000 people there. As usual they were fantastic with the set culled entirely from the first album and b-sides from the era. I’d say it’s probably one of the most crowd participating shows I’ve ever been to, the atmosphere on the floor was amazing. The only downside was some bloke in front of me who kept singing random stuff during the breaks thinking he had a good voice and probably thought he’d be noticed by Justin, what an arse. Black shuck Get your hands off my woman Growing on me The best of me Makin out Givin up Love is only a feeling Stuck in a rut How dare you call this love Street spirit (fade out) Holding my own Friday night Christmas Time (don’t let the bells end) I believe in a thing called love ————- I love you 5 times Love on the rocks with no ice

Saw a little bit of a different concert this past weekend....Rick Springfield and Richard Marx doing an acoustic show.
Honestly, I was never anything more than a very, very casual observer of these guys. Frankly, I only knew their radio hits and never bought any of their albums. I only bought the tickets to this concert as a gift for my wife who I knew always liked Rick Springfield back in the day and this show was a bit out of my "normal" hard rock wheelhouse.
I have to say though that these two did a really fun, unique show. Both of these guys shared the stage and traded off doing their hits while the other guy just did supporting vocals, guitar, etc. The shared some stories and light-hearted banter between songs.
Overall, really enjoyed the show and gained some appreciation for both these guys. I had no idea until after the show that Rick Springfield is 74 years old....time really does fly!
Couple videos from the show (not my videos!):

Took one for the team the other night and took the mrs to see James Blunt at Manchester Arena. I can't stand his music, a lot of it is miserable ballad type tracks like the male version of Adele and he has a poppy side to him that is very middle of the road. I'm not sure how popular he is outside of the UK, but hes like a Chris De Burgh or a Cliff Richard type artist to my mind, but a bit younger, although I was surprised to see he's been around for 20 years now.
The age of the crowd went from kids to grandparents, I actually expected it to be full of women over 40 (with their reluctant husbands in tow) but no it was very varied. There were also men wearing James Blunt tour t-shirts too, which amazed me. The place was packed, Manchester Arena is one of the biggest indoor venues and its always a good sign when the upper tier and rear sections look full.
I don't go to many concerts outside of my wheelhouse of rock, buts its interesting to see how the artist and the band is on stage, how they get the crowd involved and how the crowd react to their music, especially with a style of music that to my ears isn't conducive to getting the crowd going. The stage set was typical arena fare and not as bare I thought it would be, there was a massive screen with graphics and show footage running behind a stage that had the band elevated on a platform (which they never moved from), large free standing spotlights behind that platform shone light from their backs into the crowd which adds some mood to the lighting set up and there were lights on pulleys that moved up and down above the band. He opened with a couple of his poppier songs and straight away as the intro tape played the bassist and drummer were getting the crowd clapping along as they were in silhouette and playing the opener. For impact purposes James Blunt is last on stage and the moment the song kicked in hes started singing as soon as he stepped foot on the corner of the stage and the crowd erupted. Hes working the front of the stage going side to side, pointing and getting them going. He's clearly not as rock star cool as a Joe Elliott, it looks like your dad has got up there, but hes working them and the whole floor (which is seated) are on the their feet and people are dancing in the stands.
One thing I do like about his guy is his humour, who anyone whos seen him on TV in an interview situation hes very self-depreciating, he knows hes not cool and he knows people make fun of him for his style of music. He made a few comments that made me laugh. One was when he spoke about his new album, I'm paraphrasing here, but he said he was flogging the album to death and when they worked on the setlist they decided to play all new music on the tour and he hoped that was ok with everyone. Cue booing from the crowd. He then said that it was too late because he already had our fkn money and they'd locked the doors so we had better sit back and enjoy it.... it was all a joke, he launched into an older song and all the fans went mental. Later on he sat himself behind a piano and said he knew why people were here, to hear miserable songs that would make them cry, but he added that he actually wanted to be a guitarist in a rock band and be cool, but he needed friends for that and he didn't have any so he wrote miserable songs instead. He did a cover of Slade's Cuz I Luv You, jumped down into the crowd and ran down the aisles to the back of the arena to wave at everyone, who lost their minds! He introduced his band and said they're stuck now because no one else will work with them now they've worked with him. It was like a concert with some comedy thrown in.
Overall his music is just not my cup of tea, the mrs loved it, but I have to say I was impressed with how he sounded, he was funny during the ad-libs between songs, his band were very good and whilst not on the level of the interaction you get at a rock gig he did get everyone involved. Sadly I lost all dignity and did the Mexican wave at a James Blunt concert, we shall never speak of this night again.

I understand exactly what you are saying about the crowd interaction. As a girl dad I often attend concerts that are not in my wheelhouse (often looking like the creepy old guy hanging with teens). I am always amazed at the crowd interaction with the younger crowds. It is different than what I grew up with. Almost Rocky Horror picture show like. The response from the crowd is often not repeating after the band, but adlibbed responses that everyone is in on. Its impressive to me. I love the energy. Even if it's not music I ever listen to again.

Went to see Bryan Adams last night at the Coventry Arena. I last saw him ten years ago and he was just great as always. What a voice he has and his band is amazing too. It was a nice long 2 hour setlist as well. Seeing him live again just brought home how much I really like the Reckless album, a classic in my eyes. I must admit that I thought we had tickets for Coventry City's football stadium, I didn't realise there was a large conference hall built on the side of it which was basically a massive floor which some seats at the back. If I was to estimate I'd say there was around 6,000 people in there. Setlist: Kick Ass Can't Stop This Thing We Started Somebody 18 til I Die Please Forgive Me Shine a Light Kids Wanna Rock Heaven Go Down Rockin' It's Only Love (with snippets of Simply The Best & What's Love Got To Do With It) You Belong to Me I've Been Looking for You The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You I Will Always Return Here I Am When You're Gone (Everything I Do) I Do It for You Back to You So Happy It Hurts Run to You Summer of '69 Do I Have to Say the Words? House Arrest Cuts Like a Knife Straight From the Heart All for Love A few pics (yes thats a flying car)

Went to see The Dead Daisies this past Friday in Nottingham at a small venue called Rock City. Light 'Em Up Rise Up Dead and Gone Make Some Noise I Wanna Be Your bltch Unspoken Bustle and Flow Lock 'n' Load I'm gonna Ride Born to Fly Take a Long Line Band introductions with snippets of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap / Seven Nation Army / Children of the Grave / Whole Lotta Love / Join Together I'm Ready Fortunate Son Mexico Midnight Moses ------------ Long Way to Go Helter Skelter Been wanting to see these for a long time. I've been a fan of lead singer John Corabi since hearing The Scream 30+ years ago, over the years I've seen Doug Aldrich and Mike Devin many times with Whitesnake and The Dead Daisies singles have been staples on Planet Rock radio too so I like a lot of their stuff. The history of this band is fascinating, formed by an Australian businessman who plays rhythym guitar and its been a revolving door of musicians around him from their inception. Most notably they replaced Corabi with Glenn Hughes for a short while and I have to say that I'm so glad that Hughes isn't in the band anymore, his vocal style took it away from what I think the Daisies are and made it a Glenn Hughes project to my ears. The venue didn't open the balcony so I reckon it was probably 3/4 full of what it should be. The sound was really loud for these, at times a little distorted though but they soon got it sorted behind the desk, in fact my ears are still ringing. I thought they were really good though, which is to be expected from such good musicians. I forgot to mention they have the amazing Tommy Clufetos on drums who is a monster. They are out supporting their new album and played a few tracks from it which all went down well. Funnily enough though of all the bands on the bill (The Bites and The Treatment), it was a track from The Treatments thats stuck in my head. I haven't seem these guys for a good tens years, since I saw them playing in the tent at Download and really they've been a perennial support act since they came on to the UK rock scene. I think thats their level now. But this track stuck below with me from their latest album. Give the song a listen:

The band intro is amazing usually full of story and other band's music. Always a pleasure to see them live! Long time since I have seen the Treatments too. They are a great band and loved so much when they came to the FRF III in 2016 (I think). They changed quite a lot band members since the beginning but their level was and still very good.
