One of my mates has booked us tickets for WASP's 40th anniversary tour next April, supposedly they're bringing all their exploding cod pieces and all that Kiss style production out on this tour.

This is the exact scenario that will end up keeping a lot of bands off the road.

Saw The Darkness last night. What a great gig, my first proper one since Download 2019 and it was really good to be back at a concert. The venue holds around 1500 and I'd estimate it was 3/4 full, certainly not the same amount of people when I saw them in the same venue 4 years ago, but a lot has happened in that time to put people off going to gigs I think. The Darkness have even managed to release 2 studio albums in that time as well. It was a good mix of old and new, however they didn't play anything off their 2011 comeback album Hotcakes (which is fine by me as its my least favourite).Granted their debut still makes up a big chunk of the set, but they are slowly building a sold (gold) setlist of singles and crowd favourites and their new album has a couple of those already in that bracket IMO. These are easily one of the best touring bands around, good sound, good songs and a good time. The band look to be having fun and their interaction with the audience adds to their appeal. They even came out for the encore in full christmas fancy dress.

While this hardly counts as a concert attended, I watched the live (and free!) stream of night 1 of Metallica's 40th anniversary shows last night. The show/production/sound were all phenomenal, and the set was creative and well thought out as they played 1-2 from each album in chronological order. They also played a song they had never played before off Reload that had fans going crazy on their Reddit page...it reminded me of us during Leppard's first Vegas run. The second and final show will be tomorrow where I imagine they are doing the same, and the set will be at least a bit more predictable as several live staples were not played last night in favor of more obscure stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and looking forward to tomorrow night.
The Vegas shows in '19 were great however it would've been awesome to see Leppard do something like this for their 40th. It'd be nice just to see them out there doing anything at all! Hoping for a big 2022 for Leppard.

I actually meant to go digging for a 40th anniversary thread, and this reminded me… Am I alone with how Leps 40 was handled?? Overlooked and non existent? They put out early years, yes. I know Covid blew up the tour, but am I missing something? Since live shows were out, not sure what they really could have done for the 40th.
Re-release OTTN again? Between Early Years and Collection Vol, 1 I feel like that well is dry now.
Another compilation? Again, we're going to start approaching KISS or Aerosmith territory with the "hits" sets if that keeps going.
I think because Metallica has made a big deal about their 30th ten years ago, it was sort of expected they would do something for their 40th, and unlike Def Lep, they have played some gigs this year.

I saw a norwegian band Spidergawd in december. A bit disapointingg since the sound was terrible.
Not technically a concert, but i was in Vegas for the holidays and saw the Michael Jackson Cirque du solei show at The Mirage hotel. Incredible music and overall a cool show.
I have a couple of cool shows lined up for next year. GnR in London in july, Reo speedwagon and Styx in Portland in july and DL/MC/Poison in Denver also in July.
Havent seen DL live since 2018? Longest break since i got into the band.

Last week I saw Geoff Tate play at a local venue, no way was I going to pass up this tour which sees him performing the 2 classic Queensryche albums Rage for Order and Empire in their entirity... or so we thought. This is the second time I've seen him play near me and its very intimate, it only holds about 350 and yet again it looked pretty full to me. However, for some reason they cut the show short, dropping 2 tracks from Empire, not even doing an encore and they seemed to leave the stage very abruptly. I don't know why that was, maybe it was because they were having some sound issues with the left speaker stack, there was some feedback at times during the second half of the set and at the end there was some weird popping noises from it. There was a definite difference in sound between the first half of the set and when they came out to do Empire, it seemed less full to my ears if that makes sense. But certainly on stage you could see that some of the band weren't happy with the speaker stack and were gesturing to the mixing desk. Overall I really enjoyed the gig, but this was probably the worst version of Silent Lucidity I've heard from him and his band, it just didn't sound right, almost out of tune to my ears. Speaking of the band, I notice hes had the same lead guitarist and bass player for a few years now, but the rest of the band seems to be a rotating slot. He only had 2 lead guitarists at this gig and I know hes had 3 at recent shows. The drummer in this incarnation of his band is playing an electronic kit which changes the sound too. Geoff seemed to show the strain a few times during the Empire album, understandable given the schedule hes playing on this tour. But even so its great to see him doing justice to these songs. I also really enjoy going to see the current incarnation of Queensryche, but its odd when I read Todd La Torre having thinly veiled digs at Tate by saying they still play in the songs original tuning, at some point age and time will catch up with him too and I hope he can still do as well in his early 60's. Because this show was cut short I might try and catch another one on the tour. 01 Walk in the Shadows 02 I Dream in Infrared 03 The Whisper 04 Gonna Get Close to You 05 The Killing Words 06 Surgical Strike 07 Neue Regal 08 Chemical Youth (we are rebellion) 09 London 10 Screaming in Digital 11 I Will Remember --------------------- 12 Best I Can 13 The Thin Line 14 Jet City Woman 15 Della Brown 16 Another Rainy Night (without you) 17 Empire 18 Resistance 19 Silent Lucidity 20 Anybody Listening?

I found it sort of weird that Tate was doing these two albums on this tour. When the break-up happened, he seemed so adamant about having the "exclusive right" to play Mindcrime and Mindcrime II in their entirety... and now he's doing a tour without playing a song from either.

Skid Row, Lita Ford, Winger and Quiet Riot on 5/22. Only really attending to see Skid Row with Erik Gronwall as he's really been tearing it up from all accounts I've seen.....which doesn't surprise me a bit.
It's funny as Skid Row played about 10 minutes from my house shortly before the pandemic started and I had zero desire to go. Now I'm driving 5 hours to see them lol.

Caught Europe, Foreigner and Whitesnake in Nottingham last night.
Never seen Europe, should have done ten years ago at Download but they had to cancel last minute. They were really good, Joey Tempest still has a solid voice and I think I'd definitely go and see them again. Surprised to see them with only 1 guitarist, I thought in the 80's they had 2?
Walk the earth Rock the night Scream of anger Carrie Last look at eden Ready or not Superstitious Cherokee The final countdown
I'm not entirely sure if any of the current line up of Foreigner are original members? But even so they were very good, their singer does Lou Gramm justice I think. They have some unbelievable hits to choose from. The one downside was the very boring keyboard, keytar and drum solo halfway through.
Double vision Head games Cold as ice Dirty white boy Feels like the first time Urgent Juke box hero Long long way from home I wanna know what love is Hot blooded
Whitesnakes farewell tour and the irony is that Coverdale has probably surrounded himself with the best band that I've seen him play with, the addition of Tanya O'Callaghan on bass has reinvigorated the performers on stage, they were much more animated I thought. Also added to the band is a very talented keyboard player who is also doubling Coverdales vocals, frankly the legend is struggling these days on the powerful screaming stuff and the keyboardist has a similar voice, such a shame and indeed now is the right time for a farewell tour. But what a frontman and what a catalogue of songs he has. Did it dampen the enjoyment of the show? Not really tbh, what was frustrating was the sound mix for them, possibly the worst of the night with Joel Hoekstras guitar going in and out of our speakers and also Coverdales voice too was low then high and it was a bit messy at times. Overall though a quality setlist and a great nights entertainment.

Europe are a very solid live band. Surprised you've missed them all this time. It's the same lineup as the Final Countdown album that has carried on the last 20 years too. They have always only had one guitarist (except on one millenium show). Even if Joey on occasion picks up a guitar too, on songs like Ready or Not for example.

I had posted a ways back that I was looking forward to attending Skid Row in PA back on 5/22 and it ended up being a cool story I thought I'd share. First off, my wife and I made a 5 hour drive just to see the show. I've been a huge fan of H.E.A.T with Erik Gronwall and I think he's an awesome fit in Skid Row so couldn't wait to check it out. We got there early afternoon and checked in to our hotel. We dropped our bags off and as we left our room, my wife actually bumps into a guy right across the hall from us who was just checking into his room. He turns around to say sorry and low and behold it's Erik Freaking Gronwall! He immediately commented to me "Nice Shirt" as I had a H.E.A.T shirt on and we chatted for a few minutes. Now I have met and chatted with him a couple times before when HEAT played in Chicago and on the Monsters of Rock Cruise so it wasn't the first time we'd met. But all those were just pretty brief encounters and I doubt he really remembered me. Either way, we snapped a picture and told him we'd see him at the show and left to go eat thinking that was a pretty cool chance encounter and that we'd likely not see him again as the show would be over late. We grabbed an early dinner and then headed to the venue. As we got there, the heavens opened up and a driving rain came down for about 15 minutes. This was only about 4:00 though and the sun quickly came back out so we didn't think much of it. The gates to the show were set to open at 4:30 and we thought we'd be good. Well, 4:30 came and went and we stood there until about 5:00 when an announcement came that the show was cancelled because the driving rains ruined a substantial amount of equipment. Needless to say we were pretty bummed after driving 5 hours for nothing. So we made our way back to the hotel. As we waited for the elevator to head to our room, the doors opened and Erik steps out of the elevator. He immediately starts apologizing for the show being cancelled as we had told him when we saw him before we had traveled a pretty good distance to see the show. He then tells us that he'll be in the hotel bar in about an hour and to come down so he could buy us a drink. Well, we of course had to take him up on that and headed down to the bar. I did see Erik in there talking to some people as we went in but we just sat down and kind of minded our own business. Sure enough, after about 10 minutes, Erik comes over and says hello and makes good on his promise to buy us a drink. He then sat down next to us and we chatted about all sorts of stuff from music, to family, to his battle with leukemia. I also had a battle with cancer when I was close to his age so we had that in common to talk about. And of course I told him that I'm hoping to see Def Leppard and Skid Row on a bill together at some point in the future! He said that would be freaking amazing After about 45 minutes or so, more guys from the band stroll into the bar and Erik says to us to come with him and he would introduce us to the band. He then takes us over and introduces us to the guys and we stood around shooting the breeze with the band members. All the guys were super relaxed as there were literally about 15 other people in the bar the entire time and I think most of them were probably associated with the band in some capacity. After what ended up being a few hours and the bar was getting ready to close, Erik again comes over to us. He says...."You guys are from Upstate NY, right?" I tell him yes and he then says they will be playing a show near us on September 17th that hadn't been announced yet and he hoped that might work better for us than making the 5 hour drive back to PA for the future rescheduled show. I thanked him for the information and for the awesome time and we headed back to our room talking about how lucky we were that the show got cancelled! Erik is absolutely a class act and one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Frankly, all the guys in the band were super nice. I'd say Scotti Hill was probably the guy I talked to the most outside of Erik and he was just a pleasure to talk to also. Just wanted to share the story as I thought it was pretty neat! It wasn't quite bumping into Def Leppard in the hotel bar but still pretty cool And today I did get tickets to that show Erik gave me the lowdown on that's happening September 17th....Front Row, dead center!

Talk about tragedy turned to triumph. Awesome story! I think you feel the same way that Heat is just not the same without Erik. I've listened to the 4(?) songs they've released already on their newest album and while the last one HOLLYWOOD was probably the best so far I can honestly take it or leave it which is a shame considering how good the albums were with Erik. I haven't paid much attention to Skid Row in a long time but definitely will with him in the fold.
