I've been running through the new Eclipse album this morning. I like it, but it's unfortunately not really grabbing me like I think it should. Each of the last 4 albums these guys have put out have been stellar...each one having some of my favorite songs in the entire genre. Their last album WIRED I loved front to back and had a great variety of memorable soaring choruses/driving guitar work/moody epic songs. There's a couple songs here I really like (SO LONG, FAREWELL, GOODBYE/CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT), but I would even put those songs in the middle of the pack if they were on any of the last 4 albums. The rest are just ok for me, and that includes the 3 singles as none of those really grabbed me either (my favorite moment was the Leppard logo cameo in the HEARTS COLLIDE video). Maybe I need to give this one some time to resonate? Anyone else listening? Thoughts? Awesome band overall...would love to see them live someday. Not the best album from Eclipse imo. still good songs, great sound and rock but not at the same level the all the previous unfortunately. I have listened a few times before saying anything.. no outstanding tracks, 3/4 very good songs and the rest are the typical Eclipse rock songs. Wired was imo a step back from the previous ones, I am afraid it’s the same for Megalomanium. Said that the band is amazing and definitely worthy to see live

The new Electric Boys album 'Grand Explosivos' which came out yesterday. Sounds decent so far. On a completely unrelated side note, but something music related, (and Lep related as they have played there). Brixton Academy in London is one of its most iconic venues, but after a fatal incident outside the venue at a gig last year it will be allowed to reopen if it meets certain criteria. I like The Rolling Stones, one of my favourite bands. So great to hear some new music, but, I am glad that Def Leppard's songs with Alison Krauss are done so much better than this with Lady Gaga.
It isn't bad, but it is just not subtle. But then I guess Lady Gaga is not of a stature to agree to do subtle!

Retro Active today, nothing like a release anniversary to make me revisit an album. Desert Song & Fractured Love still remain 2 of the best songs they;ve ever recorded IMO.

Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Redux
Not quite sure what I think of this. While I've never thought DSOM was a "masterpiece" like so many seem to (and I absolutely hate Great Gig in the Sky), it does add some layers to the original songs. And I don't actually mind too much this version of GGitS. But Waters almost seems to be more of a beat poet than a singer for this. The whole thing is a little "talky" for my taste. And don't go looking for guitars here, you'll be hard pressed to find them. So while I'm glad I did give it a listen, I don't think it will get many (or any?) relistens in the future.

The Darkness 'Permission to Land... Again' 20th anniversary re-issue of their debut album. I'd forgotten how good this album is. I first saw these supporting Leps on the X tour and was really impressed by them, I clearly remember them flying out on stage with the instrumental track Bareback and it reminded me of AC/DC crossed with Switch 625 and I've been a fan since. This cd boxset has 4 discs full of b-sides, demo's, alternate versions and a couple of live shows too. Quite a nice compilation to bring together a lot of stuff from this era of the band.

Picked up Stone Temple Pilots debut album Core on marble effect vinyl this weekend. What a great album. Looking back now I was going through a phase of just buying cds in the 90's and 00's. If I had picked them up on vinyl too it would have saved me a fortune nowadays!

New Stones album is fantastic!! Easily going to be one of my albums of the year. It’s amazing to think how much the world has changed since there last one in 2005 and I remember thinking when I bought that, that this is prolly the last one. This album tho just has a sense of freshness without chasing trends and it sounds like the band really enjoyed making it.

Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Redux Not quite sure what I think of this. I think if there was no original version, it would be very impressive. Given that it there is though, and it happens to be the definition of a classic album, anything like this will fall sorry because it will be compared. I listened to it a few times, and definitely don't hate it, but why would I not just put the original on? Novelty I guess? It is definitely an interesting take though and I think some of the reviews are harsh, although I understand that to D some degree.

New Saxon single is good, sounds like Saxon! Traditional metal.
Very curious about new Bruce Dickinson, snippet sounded bit prog power metal.

2024 gave me my first new music interest today with the new Pearl Jam. I was lukewarm at best with their last couple of albums, but this one has my interest. DARK MATTER is the best new Pearl Jam song I've heard in at least 15 years. The Youtube video looks like it's been ripped straight off a Winamp visualizer.

Re-visiting the Coverdale-Page album from 1993. Still a great listen. There had been rumours of a 30th anniversary edition with unreleased tracks. I would have picked that up in a heartbeat.

Listened to Queensryche's Promised Land album over the weekend. I'm going to say that it's one of the best produced albums I've ever heard, amazing. New Saxon single is good, sounds like Saxon! Traditional metal. Very curious about new Bruce Dickinson, snippet sounded bit prog power metal. Had the new Saxon album on in the car recently there were a lot of songs I liked on it. Solid album. In fact I enjoyed it more than Priest's new one. Check some of the live footage of Bruce Dickinson from his recent Whiskey a Go Go show, sounds pretty good. He's recruited the amazing Tanya O'Callaghan on bass too, who was most recently playing in Whitesnake.

Hope to see Bruce and Priest together in Athens. Both albums good-ish, prefer Bruce.
New Gun album bit hit and miss, number 7 UK midweek chart.

While I struggle with a couple of the songs, overall for me this is measuring up to be the best album they've done since YIELD (26 years ago!). There have been good moments since (I did like a lot of BACKSPACER), however I'm not sure I've really resonated with an album from them like this since that time. Breath of fresh air for sure as GIGATON is easily my least favorite album from them. I don't think the positive evolution is ironic...there is something to be said about an entire band getting into a room and hashing out music together. Their producer also seems to have freshened up their sound, and probably also inspired them to capture some of the feel of the earlier albums. This has some of the best guitar work/solos they've done in ages. I also hear vocal melodies/hooks I've never heard from them previously and at first listen actually caught me off guard. Just listening to Dark Matter now

Like many of us I'm of that age where we were around when grunge first started and obviously Pearl Jam were one of the bands at the forefront of that. I was taken by the first song I heard (Alive) when I saw the video on The Chart Show, (one for the UK fans there), bought the album and loved certainly the singles and probably the first half of the album, but I couldn't get on with their more melancholy side.
But I think they've catfished me with 2 other albums since their debut. First of all with Go, I thought that was such a good lead off single and even now takes me back to the Desert Song era of Def Leppard given they came out around the same time, but the rest of Vs is mostly average for me. They did it again with Spin the Black Circle, great little rocker, almost punk number and yet again I didn't really like the album it came off. So I'm convinced they're going to do it to me again with Dark Matter, I really like the song.
