Really enjoying the new Defiants album out today....just some fun, throwback 80's inspired type music full of hooks, catchy melodies and some excellent guitar work. Funny that I was just going to post this. Man you were on it the day it came out. Well done sir! I hope Ben BWM5150 covers this. Total Danger Danger / Leppard vibe. Released Summer 2023 blows my mind cause this could have easily been a hit in 1989.

Was sorting through my vinyl yesterday, picking out stuff to play. Dug out the 12” and 10” singles from Thunders Backstreet Symphony album and it just highlights how good record collecting used to be. We got clear vinyl, picture discs, coloured vinyl, posters… one of the posters is the size of a single bed! This all without taking into consideration the cd singles, cassette singles and 7” singles they also released too.

As great as the internet and other technology is I've mentioned before how I miss diving in to those new copies of Record Collector and Goldmine as soon as they would arrive in the mail. They both still exist but they aren't the same as the pre-internet days as you know. I liked press kits and those have been extinct for a long time. ROA 2005 was the last one I can think of.

I rarely discover new (or newer) rock bands nowadays, Ghost I really like, but they’ve been around for a while. I actually really like some pop stuff like Dua Lipa and I did like the first Greta Van Fleet EP, but I really don’t like the singer’s voice on their follow-up material so I lost interest. Newer Metal bands don’t really appeal to me.
I’ve however discovered this kinda new British band called Sleep Token. Their image is a bit similar to that of Ghost, but their music a bit more experimental I guess, quite heavy in parts and more electronic. Some of their stuff is more melodic and ballad-y but always kinda experimental and a bit left-field. Some stuff has a rather eerie sinister touch. Their third album “Take Me Back To Eden” is quite brilliant I think. One of very few CD’s I’ve found worthwhile buying on a physical format, rather than streaming which is pretty much all I do nowadays rather than buying CD’s or LP’s. Def Lep being the exception of course.

Visited a local second hand record store at the weekend called Rubber Soul Records. Its been a year or so since I last went and the guy that runs it actually moved from smaller premises to this new location about 5 years ago. This new place was much more spacious with a couple of long aisles and was nicely laid out. But since moving hes slowly been gaining more and more stock, to the point where now you couldn't pass down the aisle, you have to walk sideways down them its thats full and vinyl is piling up everywhere. The sheer number of LPS, 7", 10"s , 12"s in there must run in to the tens of thousands, seriously. If it were me I'd be taking out all the duplicates because I found loads of doubles of albums and I think I'd separate the 12" singles from the LP's too. I spent a good 90 mins in there, which was an absolute treat, but he needs to make it more accessible and easier to navigate as it could put people off. Anyway I ended up buying originals of AC/DC 'Let there be Rock' (import with Problem Child instead of Crabsody in Blue on side 2), Dio 'Last in Line', Vixen's debut album and also Aerosmith 'Permanent Vacation'.

In the car this week I've been playing the Leps 2015 self titled album and then DSH back to back. I think the 2015 album is better.
Also been listening to Iron Maiden's First Ten Years 12" singles compilation on vinyl, I've been cleaning them up and giving them a spin.

Just curious why like the 2015 S/T more than DSH? I guess for me as I look at my main "favorites" playlist, I have 2 songs from the S/T album in it (Dangerous and Wings of An Angel). But I have 6 songs from DSH in that playlist (TWYW, Kick, Fire It Up, SOS, Gimmie A Kiss and Unbreakable). On the other hand though, I think I would have to say that the 2015 album probably has less skippable moments for me. I mean, there's 4 songs on DSH I just cannot bring myself to listen to (This Guitar, Lifeless, Goodbye for Good and Angels). There's probably only 2 of those moments on the 2015 album for me (Sea of Love, Blind Faith). So maybe I do agree with you! I guess overall though I feel like, at least for me, that DSH has more highlights so it would get the nod for me. DSH, Hysteria, Pyromania, and Diver Down are my most recent album listens. I'd cast my vote for DSH over S/T. DSH feels more cohesive to me. That said there are songs such as Blind Faith, Wings of an Angel on the S/T I love. This a a Betty or Veronica argument I think!

But I think after those initial singles that the 2015 has more moments of energy that lift the album, by energy I mean Joes vocal delivery coupled with the style of song. Whereas on DSH the energy is lacking for me.

But at the end of the day, Leppard is still giving us music which I'll take every single time. This guitar live sounds so much better than the album version IMO and Lifeless version with just Joe's vocal is way better. 2015-DSH Smash up album goes like this: -------------------------- TWYW Wings of an Angel Dangerous Kick All Time High We Belong Broke N' Brokenhearted All We Need Unbreakable SOS Emergency Battle of My Own Last Dance U Rok Mi

Listening to a new album from Tempt that just came out. These guys have been talked about before here as they did quite a few Def Leppard covers some years ago and they've said Leppard is a big influence to them.
Anyways, really digging their new album which is on spotify. They definitely have some stuff going on that reminds me of Leppard at times with some of their riffs and backing vocals. But they have their own sound throughout the album too.
I didn't really expect to like it and only listened on a whim but lots of catchy tunes on the album.

These guys have a real attention to detail of their sound. I really enjoyed the covers they did once upon a time of ANIMAL/WOMEN/HYSTERIA (some of the best Leppard covers out there) and their Youtube channel also has some great acoustic performances of both covers and their originals. They fell off my radar screen as it's been some time since they've released anything (their first album was great too) so it's nice to see them back with new music. A few of these songs have been floating around for awhile, but nonetheless the album is terrific. The harmonies/melodies/production are all very strong. Would be nice to see them pick up some steam with this release...I think they've definitely earned it. Listening to a new album from Tempt that just came out. But the music and lyrics are stronger overall on the 2015 album imo. i still remember getting to hear the demo recordings before the 2015 album came out and i got really excited. Once the Album was ready it did not disappoint. I did think they chose the wrong songs as singles, just like DSH. They always seem to pick mostly nostalgic sounding songs for singles. But i have to say i'm still amazed they kept more than 1 new song in the set during the entire tour.

I think they are ok. I'm not sure they can duplicate their studio sound in a Live setting. Unless they use support tracks which seems to be ok for the new generation of listeners. Do any of you remember the last time you hear feedback through a P.A.? One thing i have noticed more and more is the pumping of audience applause at the end of songs. I'm not talking about Def Leppard. But Industry wise at some poser shows. These guys have a real attention to detail of their sound. This S/T vs. DSH discussion definitely deserves its own thread. Both are great albums, and they are easy to compare as they are both largely cut from the same cloth in the later stages of the band's career where they stopped a cookie cutter approach and started opening up to ideas they wouldn't normally entertain. Thanks to these posts about it I took some windshield time today and listened to both front to back and back to back. S/T has a lot going for it in comparison to DSH. For me DANGEROUS with how melodic and classic Leppard it is really makes it one of their signature songs of that ilk...I like it more than any song on DSH of a similar vein. WE BELONG lyrically and performance wise is one of their best ballads and I would put it ahead of any of the ballads on DSH. ALL TIME HIGH IMO is one of the most underrated songs in the catalog, and I would place it ahead of most of DSH overall. I hadn't listened to this one in awhile and hit repeat on it after the album was over...that chorus and rideout! Of the less talked about tracks, I also am really into BATTLE OF MY OWN with its Zeppelinesque vibe, and I absolutely dig the guitar parts in INVINCIBLE...I like the song a lot as is...if only they would've made it a bit more Leppard and a bit less Duran Duran I'd like it even more! None of that mentions WINGS OF AN ANGEL...just a monster of a song and a top 20 Leppard track ever for me (and my second favorite of both albums combined). As great as S/T is, I would personally give the nod to DSH in a head to head. The first comparison I looked at is the book ending of both. TAKE WHAT YOU WANT is absolutely stellar, a top 10 Leppard song ever for me and bar none my favorite song on both albums. I like LET'S GO and it's a solid track, however I would place it towards the bottom of opening tracks to a Leppard album in comparison. On the flipside, BLIND FAITH...once again a nice enough track (and I love the explosion at the end that sounds like it could be a GODS OF WAR sequel!), however FROM HERE TO ETERNITY for me at least is a significantly better listen with its theatrics and awesome solos to close out DSH (nice work Sav!). Track 3 on both are oddly similar which is where the more rock/groove tracks are typically on display...I like FIRE IT UP over MAN ENOUGH here (on a side note I came to the realization that post HYSTERIA with the exception of the X album I have struggled at some point with every track 3 on a Def Leppard album). To round out the rest, I feel like DSH has more substance with what I haven't mentioned already on DSH vs. S/T. I think the big difference for me is I seem to like SOS EMERGENCY and ALL WE NEED more than I think the average fan. SOS is classic Leppard with its harmonies/melodies and I love the build up of subdued verse to big pre-chorus to bombastic chorus. Also I've always been a sucker for the mid-tempo/breezy tracks they write like HYSTERIA/STAND UP/GUILTY...and AWN checks all the boxes for me there (and phenomenal outro!). That doesn't even mention the epic vocal/guitar work/refrain of OPEN YOUR EYES, the incredibly Leppard GIMME A KISS which somehow blends melodic/sleezy/groovy all at once, and the poppy yet somehow melodic rock hallmarks of UNBREAKABLE. Regardless of preference, compiling a 12 track album from the last 2 albums combined would make for a hell of an album that I think could rival anything in the back catalog. In the car this week I've been playing the Leps 2015 self titled album and then DSH back to back. I think the 2015 album is better.I totally agree. I find DSH is a bit cheesy lyric wise. I wonder how hard it was for him not to sing the proper lyrics? To be fair Michael Starr sounds pretty good for a 70 year old bloke.

I've been running through the new Eclipse album this morning. I like it, but it's unfortunately not really grabbing me like I think it should. Each of the last 4 albums these guys have put out have been stellar...each one having some of my favorite songs in the entire genre. Their last album WIRED I loved front to back and had a great variety of memorable soaring choruses/driving guitar work/moody epic songs. There's a couple songs here I really like (SO LONG, FAREWELL, GOODBYE/CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT), but I would even put those songs in the middle of the pack if they were on any of the last 4 albums. The rest are just ok for me, and that includes the 3 singles as none of those really grabbed me either (my favorite moment was the Leppard logo cameo in the HEARTS COLLIDE video). Maybe I need to give this one some time to resonate? Anyone else listening? Thoughts? Awesome band overall...would love to see them live someday.

I'm feeling exact same as you...and you named my favorite song here also with Children of the Night. I do like that tune with its heavier, menacing riffs. Agree though...Basically this album overall kinda feels like a much lesser version of Wired or Wired leftovers I loved Wired but I want this band to craft more in depth songs like Bleed N Scream, Wide Open, The Storm, etc. Nothing here is in the league of those songs IMO. It's still a decent listen and they do what they do well. But I feel like they're just repeating themselves in a way and the songs just aren't ending up very memorable as a result. I'll give it some more listens though to see how it settles. I do like it but certsinly not "wowing" me and just not sure it'll really have much staying power.
