This last week I’ve been smashing some Leps bootlegs from the Hysteria tour, lots of different stages of the tour from 87 shows from the U.K. to some of the big arena shows from the US in the late 80s. Also picked up this week Thunders debut album Backstreet Symphony on vinyl along with Saxons classic Wheels of Steel also on vinyl.

Called into the record shop yesterday to pick up a copy of Van Halens live right here right now on vinyl for RSD 2023. Saw it was £110 and ended up walking out with original copies of Bryan Adams Reckless and Madonna’s first album on vinyl for £30 instead.

Some live metallica from their first show of the new tour. Look at this stage. Its ridiculously huge. Is it just me or does anyone else think those huge screen towers are getting in the way if you're in the seats?

Does it transform into anything? They are a perfect example of a band who pace themselves without running around ITR. Def Leppard could easily do this. One negative though is their back is to the crowd 75% of the time.

Agree. My first glance I looked at this and thought it looked sweet. However, as I looked closer, I started thinking that you could be in the first row outside that circle and hardly see stuff going on around the other side of the stage. It's almost like a lot of people have good seats sometimes but does anybody really have a great seat for the entire show? And you really aren't seeing much of the screens. And the band does really have to be much more active if they're using that setep. I don't know....I guess I just feel like with Leppard's Stadium show for example, if you're sitting in the first 20 rows or whatever, you have a fantastic seat for that entire show. I guess it's hard to say without actually being there and being able to experience it. I'm sure it's probably still a blast in person. I'm not a Metallica fan though so I won't be finding out Some live metallica from their first show of the new tour. Look at this stage. Its ridiculously huge. They are a perfect example of a band who pace themselves without running around ITR. Def Leppard could easily do this. One negative though is their back is to the crowd 75% of the time. I know they've had similar size stages in the past but this is a lot bigger stage setup than their last ITR shows on the Hard Wired tour. Which to me is an odd choice because theres only 3 of them moving around (well 2 because when James sings he has to stand still). The stage goes up and down in waves too with a couple of raised bits so there are some people at the higher sections who surely won't have a great view of whats going on across the other bits of the stage. Thats without taking into account people in the seats who may have one of those screen towers in the way of them. The light show and pyro look impressive, as do the screen towers but like I say it seems odd to make them an obstruction to the crowd. The interesting gimmick of this tour is 2 nights in every venue and a different setlist for each of those 2 nights with no repeats. Its a genius idea because if Leps did that I'd be going to both nights, so straight away they are getting double the money from die hard fans who want to see both sets.

Just as we thought. A terrible view from the front for those Metallica fans by the raised part of the stage:

I am looking forward to seeing Metallica on the floor in Warsaw July 2024. Poland great place for concerts, seen Maiden in Gdansk, Wroclaw and Krakow. Nice people, easy to get around. 2 good setlists from Metallica in Amsterdam.

Been listening to Slang and DSH this week. Slang always has something new to offer, it’s a sure sign of a good album when you’re noticing details all the time. DSH… I’m going to say that opening 3 tracks is arguably the strongest since Hysteria from any of their original studio albums.

Today is the 40th birthday of Maidens classic Piece of Mind. My favourite Maiden album, Martin Birch cut the flab, kept them lean.
Ghost have just covered Maiden's Phantom of the Opera. Bass sounds amazing, Tobias vocals not work, keyboards... Ugh! Guitars yeah!
First 3 songs on DSH are immense. Would have been a great album if they had kept Angels and Goodbye for Good for Drastic as they sound as if suit orchestra.

Nice people, easy to get around. 2 good setlists from Metallica in Amsterdam. I am going to be there (near Krakow) in July and then again in August. Never seem to be decent concerts when I am there though! I imagine Maiden would be awesome in Poland though. They seem to have a huge following. Just listening to BNW at the moment. The album that got me into Maiden, and when I first saw them on tour. DSH… I’m going to say that opening 3 tracks is arguably the strongest since Hysteria from any of their original studio albums. I still haven't stopped listening to it. Absolutely LOVE DSH. Every single song. Easily my second favourite album, and it is much closer to 1st than 3rd.

I felt the same way about those first 3 tracks on DSH when I first heard the album and my thoughts haven't changed on that....Just a great start to the album. On my own playlist, it's 4 great tracks as I lopped out This Guitar so that SOS Emergency is in my 4th spot Great point on Slang also. That album just has a way of still sounding "fresh" to me every time I listen to it. Been listening to Slang and DSH this week. Slang always has something new to offer, it’s a sure sign of a good album when you’re noticing details all the time. DSH… I’m going to say that opening 3 tracks is arguably the strongest since Hysteria from any of their original studio albums. The 1-2-3 punch to start these albums is a fun conversation to have and maybe should be a poll one of these days. I can’t believe I’m saying this however as much as I love DSH it’s a really close call for me between it and the first 3 tracks from SFTSL. TWYW is a top 10 Leppard song ever for me but GO is probably top 20, and as much as I like KICK I would put NL ahead of it and CMON CMON ahead of FIU. SLANG could definitely be in the conversation also and if you’re including RETRO that probably takes it for me despite ACTION being a cover. I still haven't stopped listening to it. Absolutely LOVE DSH. Every single song. Easily my second favourite album, and it is much closer to 1st than 3rd. The album’s had a lot of staying power with me also. One year ago right now we were all waiting with massive anticipation to finally hear DSH. Hearing the album on those first listens and then listening to Leppard radio on Sirius was amazing and one of my favorite moments as a fan. The first listens to a new Leppard album are always special however this one was especially memorable not just because of the quality/quantity of the songs but also the entire marketing campaign leading up that was executed so well. For me getting a Dolby Atmos receiver a few months later helped breathe new life also. I still listen to it regularly and if I put it down it’s not for very long.

Discovered afew rock bands recently fronted by women.
The Pretty Reckless led my Taylor Momsen. She's also an actor, played Cindy Lou in Jim Carrey's Grinch movie. Some dark themed songs but really like them.
Dorthy led by Dorthy Martin. Rest in Peace is a great song and love her vocals.

Bought a book about Eddie Van Halen written by Paul Brannigan.
Read it while i ran thru Van Halens discography. Along time since i listened alot to them and im still impressed with the quality in their work.
All albums up to the 90s are really strong. Van Hagar and Eoth periods are incredibly strong imo.

New song out recently from one of my favorite newer bands....Midnite City...who also happen to be from the UK. Fun, catchy song with a definite 80's vibe to it:

Enjoying the new Extreme album, big variety on the album. Hurricane is very good. The bangers tend to be at the start.

Foo Fighters BUT HERE WE ARE getting a lot of play from me since release...this album is easily one of their finest moments.
Also enjoying both Defiants and Extreme new albums. A lot of similarities to Leppard harmonies and guitar work on both of these albums. Extreme definitely a bit more eclectic to varying results. That's always been their identity though more or less.
