I'm still grabbing more cd's from storage to listen to at work:.
Stone Temple Pilots 'Core' - I havent listened to this one for years, Sex Type Thing was the track that drew me to them with its great riff and there are some really strong tracks on here that are IMO classics of the grunge era. This is up there with Dirt, Ten and Nevermind as my favourites from that genre.
The Prodigy 'Fat of the Land' - I'm not a big fan of dance music and whole techno-style drug rave culture that was around in the UK music scene in the early 90's and The Prodigy were a big part of that. However come 1997 when they released Fat of the Land it fused rock guitars into their sound to a much greater degree and there are some belters on this album. Smack my *Edited by Admin* Up, Breathe, Firestarter, Diesel Power and Mindfields still pack a punch now. I went to see these live around 2006 on their greatest hits tour, I have never in my live been to such an energetic show, what an experience that was. Sadly one of their vocalists, Keith Flint, committed suicide a few years back and whilst they have toured since I don't think its the same without him. Certianly his look in the Firestarter video is iconic, it even got banned in the UK because he looked so deranged in it.
Skid Row 'Slave to the Grind' - Back in 1992 I had a handful of cassettes in my car that I played to death on a seeming never ending loop, Adrenalize, Use your Illusion, Groovus Maximus, the black album and this one. Easily Skid Row's best album, they took their great debut album and added a bit more heaviness with the hooks and they came up with an album that I still think has very little filler on it. I saw them live 3 times between 91 & 92 and they were a force of nature and I love revisiting this album.
Genesis 'The Hits' - This one does exactly what it says on the tin, a compilation of their hits which came out in 1999. I know theres a distinct 2 eras of this band, the prog band they were when Peter Gabriel was fronting them and the more commercial rock band that they became when Phil Collins took over singing. In terms of their hits in the Collins fronted era, they are at their best when they are doing stuff like Turn it on Again, Invisible Touch, Mama, Land of Confusion, I can't Dance, Abacab, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Jesus he Knows Me and Thats All. When they start to venture into the ballads like Follow you follow me or Hold on my Heart thats when it becomes like Phil Collins the solo artist. This includes the lead single from the one album featuring Ray Wilson on vocals, Congo, which I really like, as well as 2 tracks with Gabriel on vocals. Its amazing how many hits they had and its also amazing to think that as a child of the 80's you couldn't turn on the radio or TV without seeing or hearing Phil Collins, he was everywhere.

Slave to the grind is an impressive album for sure.
Fat of the land i remember buying when it came out and was one of the first albums i played on my new upgraded stereo. The whole house shaked 😂
Listened alot to the last The Cult album and the last Alter Bridge album. Both are great albums and especially The Cult album was a suprise since i lost interest in them many years ago.
Started reading a book about Benjamin Orr from The Cars some days ago and their music has also been played alot. Imo an underrated band and it was a crime that they had to wait until 2018 to be inducted in The RHOF.

I have to say I'm enjoying the new one more than STTG. I know that might be considered blasphemy lol...But I really didn't care as much for the heavier direction compared to the more melodic and catchy debut. Don't get me wrong, there are some excellent songs on STTG and the ballads are all epic, but I only have 5 songs from that one in my main playlist (Monkey Business, The Threat, Quicksand Jesus, Darkened Room and Wasted Time). The rest just never really did all that much for me. I did love the debut though and pretty much liked every song on it. And same for the new album, liking the whole thing. I'd really love seeing Def Leppard and Skid Row hooked together on a tour at some point in the future. I think they both use Primary Wave Music so maybe it could happen I'm still grabbing more cd's from storage to listen to at work:. I had to double take this post as I had no idea they had announced a new album or that one was imminent...thanks for the scoop! It never fails though as Leppard and Metallica always seem to release albums within a year of each other. I really enjoyed HARDWIRED the album however was not terribly fond of the title track (particularly as a lead single). This one is a different story. Great stuff...there's been some good new material over the last 6 months however this is the best thing I've heard since DSH. Love the retro feel to the track. Looking forward to the album.

The announcement certainly came out of the blue. I'm getting nwobhm vibes from that track, reminds me of Motorheads Overkill at the end with the isolated drums and then the riff kicks in again. They've gone all out on the tour as well for the new album, 2 shows in every city and both nights with a different setlist, selling tickets for a pair of shows as a bundle too. A very good marketing idea that. Its no wonder its been received well, when bands reach a certain time in their career the die hards want something that harks back to their earlier days, Take What you Want is also a perfect example of this.

Has anyone looked at the tour setup for Metallica? First of all presale for an old fanclub from 1994-2015 members only, thats cool! Then doing 2 night shows with different opening acts for each night, and a totally different no repeat setlist for each night! Thats really cool! I'm in!

My favourite Metallica is often the covers they did on Garage Days. This sounds like that mixed with Hit The Lights and Motorheads mighty Overkill. Like the song a lot.
Doing twin nights in the middle of football stadiums, which will on average hold 75000+, is a big ask. Warsaw July 2024 works for me buy tickets tomorrow. Metallica free fan club so I have my early access codes worth 4 tickets per concert ready to go.

It's great to see they are expanding on what they did with their 40th anniversary event where they played 2 nights playing at least 1 song off each album each night. It's one of the coolest ideas I've seen a band have and thoroughly enjoyed watching the live streams of it. I wouldn't be surprised if they did something similar with this tour. Would love to see Leppard do something similar at some point. I had to double take this post as I had no idea they had announced a new album or that one was imminent...thanks for the scoop! My top 100 most listened to albums for the year. The image is here. Alot of Manson I see. He was my first love when it came to discovering music and still am a huge fan altho due to his current issues I feel somewhat conflicted about him. Regardless he def was a huge part of my life growing up.

Yeah I like his music. I don't really keep up with the "off-field" issues. I know there are several lawsuits going on, but I guess I never really considered him a particularly sane or normal person in the first place. It hasn't put me off listening to his music at this point and I am still happy to separate the art from the artist, but I guess I will see how I feel after the lawsuits are all sorted.

Been battering High n Dry this last couple of weeks and the recently released 2cd versions of Use Your Illusions I & II. Lots of live material on those 2 re-releases, including plenty of tracks from one of the best shows I've ever been to - GnR at Wembley in 1991. Which just goes to prove that its lying around in the archives somewhere, so please release the whole thing.

Had a long drive at the weekend so listened to Leps Live in LA 83 and ITR IYF back to back. Quite a stark difference in how they sounded between those time periods.

New Avenged Sevenfold single bit of a dud. Maybe works as part of concept album. Vocals not strong.

Listening to the “new” U2 album today. I have to say as a whole this album is pretty good. Mostly acoustic reimagined versions of there songs but with new lyrics and even melodys. The songs they released are prolly the weaker of the tracks imo and the ones that shine are the lesser known songs.

Had a great saturday and ran thru some new albums that i found after reading reviews in Classic Rocl Magazine.
Biffy Clyro - The Myth of Happily Ever After Great album. Just heavy enough for my taste, but still has the commercial and melodic aspect that i really enjoy.
Eclipse - Wired Melodic Rock that vertainly has a retro feel to it despite being made in the 2020s. Alot of great melodies, guitar solos and a great fromtman singing.
Pearl Jam - No Code Pearl Jam are a band i love, but at the same time i havent really listened to them. Album is released in 96, 5 years after TEN. And im so impressed woth how they grew in that short period of time. Excellent album imo.
Also heard Billy Idols new EP which was good.

I've only been a very casual Extreme listener over the years and haven't really paid much attention to them since their first couple albums back in the day. That said though, really dig this new tune. This tune just checks all the boxes for me....edgy, catchy and melodic with some great musicianship and a killer guitar solo. I'm going to have to keep the new album on my radar and give it a listen when it drops.
