Thats a real shame i really enjoyed the last two studio albums- i think it was the strongest line up they have had for a while, saw them in 2008 supporting our beloved leps in liverpool some of the vocals were a bit shaky but playing wise - spot on.

Well this sucks. Makes me very happy I got to see them last summer. Maybe he can get Adrian Vandenberg back in the band.

I know, I love him. I saw him twice with them thank goodness. Met and too a pic with him outside one of the shows. I will miss him with Whitesnake, he fit so amazingly.

I saw him twice too and he's a really cool cat. A great guitarist, but completely cool and down-to-earth.
Damn.

Holy crap. Just saw Steel Panther last night and they kicked so much ass. They are wonderful performers and entertainers. Plus they played 6 songs off the new album!

Statement from Doug Aldrich: MAY 16 2014 As there is still some question regarding my situation with Whitesnake I want to officially clear the air. I can confirm that on May 7th 2014. I made the insanely difficult decision to leave the Whitesnake band. At that time, although not contractually bound, I moved forward with David starting pre-production for an upcoming WS project. Coinciding with my with the start of that project, I also had several recording and live commitments, so I needed a more flexible schedule to conclude these before going full force as normal. Unfortunately my schedule was not workable. As usual, the results between myself and David were extremely positive and fun, so that made the decision even harder. I treasured my 11 plus years in the band. 2 Studio records, 2 DVDs, 3 Live records and roughly 30 Coverdale/Aldrich songs!! Killer... The privilege of being an ambassador for WS is a responsibility I took very seriously. David started the band 35 years ago with high integrity. It was an honor to maintain that standard while I was in. And now, like lots of great things, it has come to an end. I want to thank the great WS band. Reb, Michael, Tommy, Big Foot Tichy ,Ruedy, Marco, Uriah, Timothy and the Fraz for the good times, great shows and records always kicking major ass over these years. The opportunity travel the world together with such amazing musicians in so many countries was just unreal. For me this is a new beginning and area of my musical future. I’ll definitely be moving forward working on new music, recording and touring and will have a bit more time to pursue some offers that I never had time to fit in before. A fresh start, new ideas, and another chance to push myself as a musician. Thank you brother DC, for the great times and for allowing me space to put my heart and soul into the history of your great band. Forevermore DA Source

I thought his version of Still of the Night was pretty impressive. He reminds me a bit of Steve Grimmett from Grim Reaper and Lionsheart. Doubt he'll do a better job performing with KISS than Adam Lambert did five years ago, which reminds me: if they've been on twice now, why can't we get Leppard on there?

why can't we get Leppard on there? I'm sure Def Leppard could be guests on the show if they wanted like they were on the Voice last year or when they did Dancing with the Stars....all are extremely high profile shows. Overall though def leppard songs are hard to cover. PSSOM is probably the easiest to cover and even that's hard to make sound good. How many singers have you seen pull off Joe Elliott's vocals and do it well? Why do you think so many Def Leppard tribute bands are terrible? They just aren't a band that can be covered and done well.

Are Leppard iconic enough in the US to do this show?

Are Leppard iconic enough in the US to do this show? How do you determine that? Hit Songs? Bigger Albums? i think def leppard is ahead if that's the case. Otherwise i'm not sure???

I'm wondering why they haven't appeared on it before. Sometimes i wonder if these types of shows are pay to play or strictly invite only? They have such a massive viewing audience spread over a variety of demographics i'm sure most bands would jump at the chance and even pay to get on the show to promote their tour or new album.

That is a great question. I would love to see Leppard on something like this. X Factor seems to me to be more Pop Oriented even the us version of the show.

This is great news!!
Anyone who has never heard of Thunder............. where the f*ck have you been? They are the best rock band to come out of the UK since Leppard imo. Its a pity they came out at a time when grunge killed their chances of making it in the US back in the early 90's.
Incidentally, the bass player in the first 2 videos above also played bass on the Down n Outz live DVD that was released a couple of years ago.

Covering Def Leppard is definitely not easy, but I think that Hysteria is another song that is about as easy as PSSOM and still a well known hit. I wouldn't really call being on American Idol premier exposure these days. Any exposure is good exposure obviously, but there are better avenues to take.

Stacey Def Leggend DefLeggend.com Facebook.com/DefLeggend well played and nice plug lol I'm not going to debate tribute bands with someone in a tribute band....lol .... but i'll say this... even the easiest songs are difficult to do well. Playing the songs well and actually making them sound good are 2 completely different things. But i can certainly appreciate the fact that fans in bands love the band enough to want to play their songs live in front of people.

I notice Rex Smith was on that video you posted. I only know him as an ex-motorcycle cop injured in the line of duty.......... lmao Consider yourself lucky, Andy. I first learned of Rex Smith because my sister watched him on tv in that gawd-awful movie "Sooner Or Later", and then got the hots for him (which meant having to be subjected to even *more* Rex Smith stuff until she had the hots for somebody else ). p.s. how is it that "Solid Gold" seemed so cool back then, and watching that clip of the show makes it appear so lame now? lol

Didn't Leppard appear on Dancing With The Stars back when Sparkle Lounge came out....? That was a pretty big appearance as that show was huge then...Although I'll admit...that was the only time I watched it I used to watch Idol but the show has been on a steady decline and it sent me packing last year. These days, it's more about the judges popularity and antics than the talent of the contestants IMO. So I'm not sure Idol is iconic enough for Leppard at this point Are Leppard iconic enough in the US to do this show?
