This is probably pretty old news, but I randomly came across this on Youtube last night and found it interesting. Mitch Malloy was supposed to be Sammy's replacement and he turned it down after seeing VH show up with DLR on MTV - crazy stuff. Even though I don't think ANY singer would've made it with them after Sammy it's a shame as the guy sounds worlds better than Gary Cherone did in VH (nothing against Cherone but he was a bad choice for VH).
The last minute of this video has Malloy singing over the top of what became a Cherone outtake for VH III 'That's Why I Love You'.
If you've never heard it, go find it on Youtube and then listen to Malloy's version and tell me which one sounds better...!

But Gary in Extreme is amazing side note: mitch is playing melodicrock fest in chicago this falll...

On my second listen now. Great production as usual from these guys.
Early favorites:
Pussywhipped Gloryhole Bukkake Tears Gangbang At The Old Folks Home The Burden Of Being Wonderful F*cking My Heart In The Ass B.V.S. She's On The Rag
I think "She's On The Rag" is my favorite. The alternate version is quite good as well.

Yep Gloryhole is another good one. Gangbang is easily my favourite track on the album.
Funny you mention production Curt, I thought the same, it seems as though these days most bands can get decent production without spending an absolute fortune.

'From Afar' and 'Fire in the Hole' were pretty good songs. I remember slightly after this time period after Cherone and VH III failed reading an interview about how Eddie had this great song on the shelf that people that had heard it were comparing to 'Stairway to Heaven' and that this song could've been his masterpiece. I don't doubt it as this was such a great time period creatively for him. I sometimes wonder if there's still a bunch of stuff that was meant for Sammy or whoever sitting on a shelf somewhere...

Van Halen with Roth was just more fun you could say, with Hagar it was more about making the music and it had a more serious side you could say. I don't pick one singer over the other but honestly the only VH songs I listen to have Roth on vocals...Even then look at several of the hits they had with Roth...The general people (probably including me too) just in general favor Roth.

i like these guys but i don't see any longevity for them....the funny has kind of run out imo ... fans will get bored...unless they go completely serious and give that a try... i wonder if they've reached their peak???

I can only speak for how they're doing here in the UK, but they've just done a sold out theatre tour. They have progressed up the bill over the last 5 years at download and are third on the main stage with only alter bridge and Aerosmith above them, so they seem to be doing better.
So far they've managed to get 3 albums out which I couldn't see happening when I first heard of them, so the novelty hasn't completely worn off yet. In fairness I think the albums are still solid, so they're doing well to continue milking it. My guess is when their star fades they'll drop back to being a parody act in LA clubs again.

Bryan Adams has announced a Reckless 30th anniversary tour in the UK for Nov, with a deluxe edition of the album out later this year. Great album, one of the best of the 80's IMO. I will probably try to get to one of the shows too.

I wish he would bring that show to the states. He's only done acoustic solo gigs around here the past few years. I went to one and it was great, but I'd really like to see him rock out with a full band.

I saw him in Glasgow 08 after a mate had a couple of spare tickets. I was only familiar with So Far So Good back then but I really enjoyed the show and remember being really impressed with Bryan's vocals. I only got around to buying Waking Up The Neighbours a little after he had already played his 20th anniversary tour of that album in the UK. I was gutted when I realised I had just missed out on an opportunity to hear some cool album cuts live (although he didn't play my favourites in Don't Drop That Bomb and Not Guilty).
I'll have to pick up Reckless to make sure I don't miss out again.

In a recent edition of classic rock Brian Johnson was talking about the bands 40th anniversary, he also mentioned that one of the band members had been seriously ill, but he wouldn't say who.
Today this news appeared on Sky news, albeit from a second hand source....
Rock band AC/DC are rumoured to be on the brink of retirement, with guitarist Malcolm Young said to be too ill to play live.
According to one of his friends, the 61-year-old is unlikely to record any new material.
Mark Gable, the frontman of fellow Australian band Choirboys, said in an interview with ABC Radio: "Malcolm is sick. From what I understand, and it's even been confirmed in part by his son Ross, it would appear Malcolm is unable to perform any more.
"It's not just that he is unwell, it's that it's quite serious.
"He definitely won't be able to perform live. He will probably not be able to record."
Speculation about Young's health has led to suggestions the band could be about to call it a day.
However, US music publication Billboard reported there is "no truth to the rumour".
The Australian newspaper also claimed the band are booked into a recording studio in Vancouver for six weeks from May 1, citing a music industry source.
AC/DC was formed by brothers Angus Young, now 59, and his brother Malcolm in 1973.
They moved from Scotland to Sydney, Australia, as children with their family.
The band has been a huge draw on the rock circuit for decades, creating anthems such as Highway To Hell and Back In Black, and have performed at sell-out concerts across the globe.
Their most recent release, 2008 chart-topper Black Ice, was only their third album since 1990.

OFFICIAL AC/DC STATEMENT "After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support. In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music." Source

Sad news, I guess they were forced to make a statement in the end with rumours beginning to circulate. Listened to Back In Black today in honor - so sorry to hear about this. It's hard to believe that bands like AC/DC and Aerosmith have reached their 60's and Lep their 50's...where does the time go? I hope the rumors about Malcolm being terminally ill aren't true and that they can put it all together one more time for the fans (as it says in the statement they will continue to make music). As excited as I am about the new Leppard album I'm so afraid it will be the last one...

AC/DC have toured before without Malcolm but I think the circumstances are very different this time. If they had Steve Young doing guitar many fans may not notice but I'm sure the rest of the band would.
On their new album, I've never looked this up but although Angus and Malcolm are credited as co-writers on everything AC/DC have written surely Malcolm not being able to write would have a bigger impact. Who is the creative song writing genius? Does Malcolm come up with the main ideas and then Angus puts the final flourish?
Legends AC/DC. I was on Loudwire.com yesterday looking at the Top 50 Dacca songs and I kept adding songs but not taking away.
If a new album is non goer I know it's greedy but i would like to see them next year anyway, don't care if Angus stands in the same place, I can close my eyes and mentally run around.

The new album got a lot of time on my ipod whilst I was on holiday and I have to say its grown on me more and more, it has some really good songs on it. Gangbang in particular has to be one of the best songs in their catalogue. But overall I don't think their quality has waned over the course of the 3 albums.

David Coverdale @davidcoverdale 3h It is with a heavy heart we bid adieu to super guitarist Doug Aldrich who is leaving WS to pursue a solo career. Fare Thee Well, My Brother!
Posted by Doug on Facebook "Well I guess news that I have left Whitesnake was leaked... I planned and hoped DC and I could release a joint statement. We will as soon as possible but everything happened so fast that we aren't ready. Firstly, Thanks to my big bro David for such a killer run together!! So many songs, tours, projects, always inspiring and pushing each other! Mostly I was to thank the loyal WS Choir and fans around the world. You have been so amazing to me and it's been an honor to play for you with WS. I love you guys and I'll see you all again. Thank you so very much for your unending support. Also, not sure how or where the info started about a Solo Career but this is not true or correct information. I have no plans at this time to go solo:) I'm just not in the Whitesnake/David Coverdale band anymore. I'll let you guys know what I'm doing ASAP but for now please know I very much appreciate your support and will hopefully do a statement with My Brutal Brother DC shortly.
Big love for the Aldrich clan."

He's a great guitarist and he and Coverdale have worked well together on the last 2 whitesnake albums. It will be interesting to see who he replaces him with.
