new iron maiden out, very on fence about it. longer proggy songs written by steve harris need trimming. title track could lose two minutes and be really good. singles are very good. highlight is bruces vocals, lot of thought gone into those.

This made me chuckle. Ya know you don't like a song when you suggest cutting minutes from it. I'm really struggling on the new Maiden and I feel the same about Senjutsu as I have for all their studio albums since Dance of Death. Theres all this talk of the songs being complicated, musically brilliant and how they've evolved in to a musical beast that are now the band they always wanted to be...... but this style of music isn't what got me in to Maiden. I find that the songs are too long for me to get in to or for them to stick with me, I'm sure some Maiden fans would say that I'm the problem, but I get bored and I really hate the prog aspect thats more prevalent in their music now. Some of the stuff could be played on flutes its that proggy. I like the first single and I like the title track so far, but I'm finding it a slog to get through. A ten song album thats 80 minutes long spread over 2 cds will take a while to digest. But theres a lot to be said for the format from the old days that was 45 minutes long with one epic on there and a bunch of singles that grab you. I think I've lost the faith with new Maiden albums.

Rock Hall Of Fame's All-Star Tribute To Charlie Watts Was Cut For TimeBy Andrew Magnotta @andrewmagnotta Nov 8, 2021 "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame planned an all-star jam in honor of late-Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away over the summer at age 80, but the tribute was nixed because the induction ceremony ran long. Go-Go's bassist Kathy Valentine revealed in a recent blog post that she and several other inductees rehearsed the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street classic "Tumbling Dice" before the show. The audience never got to enjoy the performance, but a week since the induction ceremony, Valentine says the run-through remains one of the most cherished memories of the weekend. "After dinner at the hotel with my little fam, the band went back to the venue for a rehearsal of the finale that was never to be," Valentine wrote. "The idea was a big traditional Rock Hall-everyone-onstage-mega-version of 'Tumblin’ Dice' in honor of Charlie Watts. Spoiler: it ended up not happening, due to the show length and Union issue I am fairly certain. It was not the Rock Hall’s fault, that’s for certain. Anyway, rehearsing the song was a highlight for sure and this was where I ended up feeling totally comfortable with our place in the whole she-bang." Valentine explained that the Watts tribute was going to include the Foo Fighters, H.E.R., Gary Clark, Jr., plus The Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, herself and a few others. She says jamming was a great way to be introduced to many of the other artists." Source

Def Leppard Singer Offers Adele Some Valuable Advice Ahead Of Her Las Vegas Residency JANUARY 18, 2022Adele kicks off her Weekends with Adele residency in Las Vegas this Friday at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Now, a fellow chart-topping British singer and Vegas headliner is offering her some sound advice on singing in Sin City. British rock veterans Def Leppard headlined residencies in Las Vegas in 2013 and 2019, and front man Joe Elliott tells The Times of London that the one thing Adele needs to watch out for is the fact that the air in the Nevada desert is extremely dry. “That is a killer for singers,” Elliott tells The Times. “I had to fill my bath[tub] with boiling water every night and put kettles and humidifiers all over the place so you wake up drowned.” And while Elliott loves Vegas because, he says, “it’s the only time the audience comes to you,” he advises Adele to “enjoy the fact that you will be traveling very little — but for God’s sake get a humidifier in your room.” While there have been reports of Caesars putting Adele up in a $40,000-per-night suite while she’s in town, the “Pour Some Sugar On Me” singer says she may want to skip that. “They offer you accommodation but the big stars will never take it because you just don’t know who’s gonna be next door,” he tells The Times. “We had to get security guards to check the corridor and if it was clear, we’d run like hell to get our key in the door before somebody [recognized] us and bang[ed] on the door all night looking for a party.” Instead, Elliott advises, Adele should rent a house near the strip, like he did when Def Leppard did their second residency. “I had complete privacy and it was fantastic,” he notes. I'd love to see Maiden in a small venue again, but I really don't like the new album. I noticed that the amount paid for Coverdales catalogue wasn't specified. I still don't know if these deals mean that they would retain any royalties as the performer though?

I see that Scott Rockenfield has broken his long time silence and issued 2 statements aimed at current Queensryche singer Todd LaTorre and former singer Geoff Tate. What a mess. In other news TurnToDust86 have you seen that Slash is releasing that recent live set for 4 on record store day?

In other news TurnToDust86 have you seen that Slash is releasing that recent live set for 4 on record store day? I did. If I go out that day, I'll definitely be looking for that release. The CD box set I bought of 4 has a cassette with four of the rehearsal songs on it but I wouldn't mind having the whole thing... Granted I would prefer it on CD. Actually just saw Slash/Myles on February 25 in Kansas City and it was a great show, though I could have done with more songs from World On Fire rather than the two covers they did. Driving Rain My Antidote Shots Fired Serve You Right Back From Cali Spirit Love The River Is Rising Whatever Gets You By Always On The Run Standing In The Sun Speed Parade Actions Speak Louder Than Words Fill My World The One You Loved Is Gone Call Off The Dogs Doctor Alibi Rocket Man Nothing To Say You’re A Lie World On Fire ——————— Anastasia Opening that show was a new band called Plush that I really enjoyed. Ordered their debut album on CD after the concert.

They nailed that song and I'd heard a single or two on the radio going in. But seeing them live sold me on streaming and then buying the album. Heart's "Barracuda" is another cover that has gotten them a lot of attention and it was the only one they played Friday night. But it was fantastic and the singer's voice is ridiculously good.

I see that Skid Row have recruited ex-HEAT singer Erik Grönwall as their new vocalist.
Been listening to Iron Maidens Number of the Beast this week, classic. To commemorate its 40th anniversary they’ve reissued it…….. on cassette! WTF?

As a huge fan of Gronwall with H.E.A.T, I'm still bummed he left them. But this could be a great move for him to increase his exposure. And could also be a huge move for Skid Row. Frankly, they've not been relevant to me since Bach left. But Erik is a fantastic frontman and he will win people over. One has to wonder why they keep chewing through singers and how long Gronwall will stick with them. But if all involved play their cards right, they could have something pretty good and I'd go so far as to say I could see them possibly being the third or 4th band on a Def Leppard bill down the road. I mean, something like Leppard, Tesla and Skid Row would be a pretty nice headline tour bill for Leppard IMO. Here's video of Erik doing a cover of 18 and Life from last August.
