Listening to new Dan Reed Network album first in 25 years. Mature melodic rock, less emphasis on the funk of old. Nice album.
The singer Dan Reed in an interview I heard yesterday said he wanted to make a more grown up album ... argh!
One of the things I like about Lepps Man Enough is that they put it out there ..
shaking it, strutting it, tongue most def still in cheek!
Growing up is overrated!

Hope this is an appropriate thread for this. Anyone going to warped tour? I went this week and was surprised to find a few bands I enjoyed. Young Guns, Avion Roe, and Against The Current. All decent in my opinion. One side note anyone planning on going to this tour, parents do not need a ticket. It is free if you bring a child(18 and under). The other thing, there are so many bands playing it is hard to see them all. Interesting experience to say the least.

Listening to Pearl Jam Ten this week.
Unbelievably this album is 25 years old this year. I remember hearing the first single Alive and buying the album on the strength of it, but apart from the obvious singles I was really disappointed with the album and I don't think I've listened to it for over 20 years now. I've found there are more tracks on it that I like now. Especially Once, which is as strong as the big 3 singles on here IMO.
Listening to it and I was trying to think where grunge had its origins. Whats it based on? To me this music came from nowhere and took over rock in the early 90's and is the total opposite to what was big in the years prior.

Queensryche Promised Land.
This album was the follow up to Empire, which as we all know was a huge commercial success and made Queensryche an arena headlining band. Promised Land took the band in a totally different direction. Its starts off really well with the typically atmospheric short intro of 9.28am, merging in to the great opener of I am I, which in turns merges into the heavy Damaged. Both these are 2 of my favourite Queensryche songs ever. But it quickly descends into an album that seems very experimental. It takes a quieter turn with two acoustic pieces in Out of Mind and Bridge, both very emotionally heavy lyrically. Its after this that the album goes left field with the epic title track and Disconnected, both are linked very well and both feature a saxophone and whilst they are interesting musically they are a massive change for Queensryche when compared to previous material. Again more experimentation follows with the piano lead Lady Jane, before they finally remember that they are supposed to be a rock band and find the guitars for the save the environment song My Global Mind. The album finished with 2 more ballads in One more time and Someone Else.
I used to be a big fan of Promised Land and enjoyed it more than Empire, but listening to it again after so long and I was disappointed by it. It hasn't got enough rock songs. This album is probably one of the ones they referred to in their recent split with Geoff Tate where the band was trying to be something they weren't.

At the time it felt like a really good album, but listening to it now, it doesn't hold up well. Dis Con Nec Ted is probably one of my favorite tracks along with Bridge, Damaged and I Am I. As far as my favorite album of theirs, I love "Hear In The Now Frontier", which was Chris DeGarmo's last album with Queensryche. It has a little bit of everything on that one. It's a shame that most of Queensryche's demise happened during that album, and most of the problems came from ex wives and girlfriends.

that was not pretty but i laughed.... he kind of just stood there in shock after it. I can't imagine it felt good at his age falling backwards with a 100 pounds of gear on him. Gene fell on stage this past Saturday night.

This is so funny! Axl Rose Laughs Off Onstage Mishap at Guns N’ Roses Show By Nick DeRiso August 7, 2016 10:33 AM Guns N’ Roses‘ Friday night performance in Houston was briefly halted when Axl Rose‘s piano apparently malfunctioned during “November Rain.” He stayed in good spirits, even making a sly joke at his instrument’s expense, before the band continued their Aug. 5 show at NRG Stadium. Still, as you can see in the fan-shot video above, there was tense moment or two at first. Rose began to notice something was wrong, even before stopping the song. At roughly the 4:57 point, just after singing “in the cold November rain,” he turns to the back of the stage and audibly says: “What the f— was that?” Within a few more seconds, he’s calling a halt to things. “Stop,” Rose says, and repeats his earlier question. “What the f— was that?” A roadie or some other member of Guns N’ Roses apparently describes the problem to Rose, while the Texas crowd cheers loudly. “Can we stop it at least?” Rose asks. “Wow, the piano is broken. So, do you have a suggestion, then?” A few moments later, Guns N’ Roses resumes the song, with Rose addressing the issue again after Slash‘s memorable closing solo. “I don’t mind ghosts and gremlins,” he jokes, “but they should probably learn the f—ing song.” Guns N’ Roses heads to San Francisco next for a Tuesday (Aug. 9) show, then continues on to Seattle, Los Angeles (where they’ll play a two-night stand at Dodger Stadium) and San Diego, before a planned trip to South America. Should they encounter more trouble, it looks like Rose is ready to take it all in stride. “You have to give Axl credit for rolling with the flow,” Pete Vonder Haar of the Houston Press noted. “Twenty-five years ago, he would have thrown the bench into the crowd and (probably) called us assholes. … Let’s hear it for maturity.” Source

I'm seeing Heart / Joan Jett and the Blackhearts / Cheap Trick on August 18th. It's billed as the ROCK HALL THREE FOR ALL tour. The show is scheduled to begin at 6:30PM (kinda early for most folks on a work day). The early start time made me curious about how many songs each band has been playing so I did a bit of research....
Cheap Trick = 13 songs Joan Jett and the Blackhearts = 14 songs Heart = 14 songs
Basically a triple-headlining tour. First time I've experienced something like this.

Henley's track is really good, this is a cracking cover.
Is it a proper single or something to release for their European tour?

From Pollstar about Bon Jovi's (it's all about the money!) next North American tour: "22 venues have signed up for the Arena Alliance, a network of top-grossing venues that includes Madison Square Garden in New York, Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and Chicago’s United Center. The first tour will be Bon Jovi, supporting new album, This House is Not For Sale, in early 2017.The Bon Jovi tour will be a chance to experiment with VIP packages, combining gourmet catering with premium tickets and high-end experiential offerings." Arena Alliance works with Live Nation to try and stop secondary sites like Stubhub from making lots of money. Live Nation owns Stubhub! Iron Maiden are announcing a UK tour tomorrow, according to Planet Rock it will be with a great and well matched support act too. Leaked poster art last week had Shinedown as the support act, but we'll see tomorrow if thats right or not. Iron Maiden to announce UK tour tomorrow & unveil plans to fight touts Thursday, September 22nd, 2016 10:44am
Iron Maiden have introduced measures to battle ticket touting on the upcoming UK leg of the Book of Souls World Tour.
The fervently awaited 2017 tour will be announced tomorrow (Friday 23rd September) and the metal legends say they’re hoping to halt tickets changing hands for “ludicrously inflated” prices.
Fans who buy tickets to the shows won’t receive printed tickets; instead they’ll receive a paperless version and the ticket buyer will have to present photo ID and the credit/debit card they used when they arrive at the venue.
Tickets will also be limited to four per person per show and the band will be utilising a customer support team to deal with any issues from fans with legitimate problems.
Other measures include 'setting conditions of purchase' so that tickets are not for resale and ensuring to the best of their abilities that ‘secondary ticketing sites are prevented from listing our shows and to invalidate tickets should any appear on these secondary sites.’
Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood said: “We do not want our fans being ripped off either by counterfeit tickets or through costly mark-ups on so called secondary ticketing websites.
“These problems now affect the UK more than any other country outside of the U.S.A. We believe the most successful way to prevent this is by implementing Paperless ticketing.
“This proved highly successful in reducing piracy at our previous London shows in 2013 and on our North American tours since 2010. This is a simple procedure and goes a long way to minimising the resale of tickets and reducing fraud by requiring the original cardholder purchaser to be present at entry.”
Nigel Adams MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Music and Member of Parliament for Selby and Ainsty added: "I'm pleased that Iron Maiden are taking a principled position and standing up for music fans.
“I'd like to think the whole industry can learn from this initiative and use technology to put a stop to the industrial level of touting that has been a blight on the live music industry for so long."
Planet Rock Tickets will be selling tickets to the Iron Maiden tour when it goes on sale. We’ll bring you further details tomorrow.
