Lip syncing to "Nine Lives" was one thing, but seeing 2008 Def Leppard lip syncing to the studio version of Sugar was so, so bad.

I think any band that lipsync in a live show is wrong. We pay to hear them live. Even if they sound bad. If you could not sing live then just do an instrumental set.

ROTFL, Gene has made big time bones about others using backing vocals and lip synching. Now this.... Priceless

Missed the lip syncing. By "where is it" I mean "at what point in the video is it obvious?" No idea lol. I'm sure it's more obvious to kiss fans who are more familiar with the new song. The song was in the encore....you'd really hear it in Paul's voice if he was singing without the track. His voice isn't that good on the first song of the night

My guess is Paul's voice was a little rough around the edges in the previous song - we all heard him sing last year so you know what I mean. Then all of a sudden his voice sounds good again. I do like the fact that he acknowledged it right away and made it sound like it wasn't a big deal.

People pay a lot of money to see these shows. If your not singing then you are not performing or delivering what you promised. Give the purchasers their money back. I'm a musician and this is not honest.

Aerosmith's Download concert is in theaters tonight. Wish I could go, but the nearest showings are too far away for me to manage with my current work schedule. Can't wait for the Bluray though. Some new US tour dates are popping up. Still hoping for St. Louis or at least Chicago. I don't want to skip shows any more with the age of the band, but the nearest show to me right now is in Indiana about four hours away on a weekday. But this interview with Joe & Steven have me tempted to work something out. All five band members have recently talked about mixing up sets. Of course the other three can talk all they want but it really comes down to what Steven and, to a slightly lesser extent, Joe say. Of course, I'll believe it when I see it. Especially for more than a handful of shows, as they've been known to try things and drop them (like in 2009 when they abandoned playing Toys In The Attic in full). Granted, Aerosmith is still good about mixing things up, as I have yet to see a show that didn't feature a few songs I haven't yet seen. Still, if they're doing "Beyond Beautiful" (my favorite Aerosmith tune) and "Sick As A Dog" (in my top 10), I'll find a way to see a show.

When I saw Mötley Crüe supporting leps they used backing tracks for background vocals, I'm also sure Queensryche did too. It didn't look like people were too bothered by it either.

Just seen their comments on facebook. It's refreshing to see artists recognise they are stuck in a rut so to speak. Hopefully they do throw in some rarities. It's exactly right what they say in that the well worn live songs aren't necessarily what defines the band.

ok this is bizarre... my guess is they have a new whitesnake album of originals in the can. Maybe as mentioned above this extra covers project and workload is why Doug couldn't commit to everything time wise. Recording a covers album shouldn't take that long but a new album and covers would take a lot of time...plus coverdale mentioned writing new music in some previous updates or interviews.......so it might be that the originals aren't ready yet or they are just buying time until the new album is done. I might be totally off on this but something isn't adding up here. If they did then why not release that first and release this next year as another filler project like they've been doing? My guess is there will be another live album or two in between this and the next real WS album hahaha Def Leppard has an album 99% in the can yet we won't hear it for 7 or 8 months..... make sense of that lol... jk thankfully no one from def leppard played in deep purple at any point

I'll readily admit I'm not a KISS fan, but honestly I don't understand how anyone could say this is good.

I' m a HUGE fan of the band and even I'll agree with you.
Completely got them a lot of exposure in Japan though abc the revenue on the current tour is more than they've seen in a long time in the territory

Is it just me or is Japan TV crazy?
For better or worse at least some of the vocals sound live there. Its a poor song IMO, however if its got them a greater exposure then I'm sure they're not too bothered. The song seems quite a regional thing just for Japan.

Well I've changed my mind about the artwork. Even if I don't like it, it is TOO COOL for Dave's vocals. You can preorder the album now. But after this, do you really want to? You can always just buy "Eruption" by itself on iTunes when it comes out. Probably the best 10 minutes of the whole disc. Aren't you glad Joe doesn't sound like this?

I'll pass ...i own way too many VH shows as it is lol... VH ended in 1996 imo... I've never put DLR is the Singer Category.... great frontman back in the day but never should have reunited with VH in 2007. I would much rather see Sammy back with them.... much more of an entertaining show and his voice has held up pretty good. Joe on the other hand has/had much more range and power behind his voice. Joe made it look easy but there are very few singers who could sing the def leppard back catalog.

And just like that, I'm not buying this. Yikes.
Excuse me while I put on Viva Hysteria to restore my faith in lead singers.

VH III sounds like a masterpiece compared to this I've never thought Gary was the problem with VH3. Good vocalist and it still shows on VH3. To me, it's the music and style that brings VH3 down. On the other hand, I think the only thing plowing this live album into the ground is Dave's vocals (or lack thereof). Just think: they could have released something from 1981....

Sometimes we are over critical because Joes lost some range, but wow those live tracks sound terrible with DLR.

Apparently there was a live album recorded and ready to go in 98, but was shelved by Warner Bro. But from what I've read, it's a great sounding live album

I really enjoyed the show I saw in 2012, but even then I left the venue and promptly put on Mirror Ball because of the vocal issues during the show. My ears needed to be refreshed.
I was looking forward to this album, but these two songs have shown me that VH is a studio or live in person band if Roth is singing. He can pull it off in the studio (I loved ADKOT) and enjoyed the show I saw despite his flaws... But when it comes to a live album, it really exposes and highlights his flaws and lack of ability as a 'singer.'

@shawn what do you think of the new Thunder cd? To be honest i was kind of disappointed with it. After a bunch of listens very few songs are memorable. A few standout songs for me are The Thing I want, Resurrection Day, I Love the Weekend. I think the quality is great, they did a great job on the recording and mixing. The band sound great, top notch playing for sure. I guess what i'm saying is it's missing the hooks that i expect from them.
