Def Leppard Debuts New Single ‘Just Like 73’ Ft. Tom MorelloThe legendary British rockers are also returning to the road on a massive co-headline stadium tour with Journey next month.Kickstarting what promises to be yet another unforgettable summer, Def Leppard unveil a brand-new standalone single entitled “Just Like 73” featuring Tom Morello today. You can check it out below. The song arrives on 7” vinyl on August 2, 2024 and will be available in a special color variant only through the band’s D2C store and in black at all retailers. Making a splash, BBC Radio 2 just world premiered the track as a “Global Exclusive” this morning. “Just Like 73” notably marks the first collaboration between the iconic rock titans and the legendary guitarist, sonic innovator, and co-founder of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. The single revolves around a classic Def Leppard stomp fueled by a robust stadium-size beat, thick riffing, and a signature chant, “Rock with me, just like 73!” Meanwhile, a knockout gang vocal gives way to a signature fret-scorching solo from Morello. The instantly recognizable whammy bar wheezes as he shreds at lightspeed into one last head-nodding hook. Of the collaboration Joe Elliott shares, “It encapsulates a time that burned deep into our DNA. We wanted to celebrate that very important and glorious time.” “When I saw David Bowie on TV between 1972 and 1973, everything I thought I knew about music went from black and white to vivid technicolor,” Phil Collen adds. “Our song ‘Just Like 73’ represents that awakening.” “I had a blast rocking a solo on “Just Like 73,” says Tom Morello. “I played “Rock Of Ages” in my college cover band almost 40 years ago and here Def Leppard are still killing it in stadiums with a brand new tune that’s one of their best.” Next up, Def Leppard will present a high-octane animated music video for “Just Like 73,” premiering on June 20, 2024 at 16:00 BST. It features the band (and Morello) like you’ve never seen them before.Def Leppard return to the road on a massive co-headline stadium tour with Journey next month. They will be joined by special guests Heart, Cheap Trick, and Steve Miller Band on select dates. This run kicks off on July 6 in St. Louis, MO at Busch Stadium, canvases the continent, and concludes on September 8 in Denver, CO at Coors Field. Check out the full confirmed itinerary below. Earlier this year, Def Leppard commemorated the 40th Anniversary of their iconic album Pyromania with a Deluxe Expanded Edition and full music and merchandise collection. It earned widespread tastemaker praise. Stereogum sat down with frontman Joe Elliott for a coveted “We’ve Got A File On You” interview, going on to rave, “Pyromania was not only a triumphant pop album — it introduced a new way to record rock music, period, by having the band record to a drum machine’s click track (actual drums were recorded last), letting Lange and Def Leppard play around with arrangement.” Classic Rock awarded the Expanded Edition a rare “5-out-of-5 stars” and raved, “Pyromania still sounds stunning 40 years on.” Guitar World christened it “a masterpiece,” and Ultimate Classic Rock attested, “One thing that sticks out when listening to the band’s third album now is how epic each song sounds, thanks to the elaborate introductions that were constructed for many of the songs and other flourishes that were added in.” Essential for collectors and newcomers alike, Pyromania Deluxe Expanded Edition comes with 4-CD’s consisting of the original album, a whole disc of unheard demos recently re-discovered by Joe Elliott while combing through the vaults, an unreleased demo “No You Can’t Do That” and two defining live shows from the era – from the LA Forum (USA) and Westfalen Halle in Dortmund (Germany). The Blu Ray contains an Atmos mix of the album (overseen by Giles Martin) as well as 5.1 / Stereo and instrumental mixes. Also included are five promo videos from the time. The album also appears as a Half Speed Master for the first time. The book contains the history of the album written by Mojo and Classic Rock writer Paul Elliott (who has conducted new interviews with band members), as well as rare and unseen photos by noted photographer, and long time band collaborator, Ross Halfin. Hhhmm.... maybe this is how the band looks in the music video. "Next up, Def Leppard will present a high-octane animated music video for “Just Like 73,” premiering on June 20, 2024 at 16:00 BST. It features the band (and Morello) like you’ve never seen them before."

Way too glam ,yeah! But it rocks!!! Not DL sounding (more like Down N Outz...) but a cool song anyway, if this is the one left out of DSH, it does sound like that 70s vibe, but at the same time to me it does not fit of the album that much. I think it really was a good idea to reléase it a single.

Given the effort they have gone to for the image on the signed vinyl i imagine the video will have them all presented in that form rather than actually them.

On Leppard Lockdown doing my best to avoid set spoilers. Even going to the first show of the tour isn't easy these days! But I wanted to pop into this thread for a moment just to say... I love the new song. And I suspect that like "C'mon C'mon," it'll be even better live.

Not a fan of the Lep glam stuff and not a fan of Morello. This is a rare case of I'll pass but if this brings a smile to someone's face, that's a win.

That's my guess. And looking at the wonky fingers for the image, it's done with A.I. Definitely interested to see how the video turns out, guessing it'll be weird but maybe not as weird as the animated music videos for the 2015 album singles 🤷♂️ Hhhmm.... maybe this is how the band looks in the music video. Very easy to like. Sometimes it takes me time to like a new song/album but this, nope. Sounds a little synth/slick but then Spotify started playing Hysteria for me right after and that's pretty slick/synth too and most excellent

Be interesting to see if its the full version that Zoe Ball plays today. When she premiered Kick and TWYW, it was edit versions that she played. I;d imagine the new single will pop up on Planet Rock today as well. I wonder if it's the "alternate version" (from the 7" listings). It is definitely not the Tom Morello version. I dig this song. I do think it could have shown up on DSH. It is similar to Kick, but not a copy of it, so I don't think it would have been "oh no another one".

I like how the "just like 73" is descending from the "just like 72" line. Works really well.

I decided to listen to
Back in your face C’mon c’mon Kick Just like 73
Kick and 73 sound absolutely massive compared to the other 2 ‘glam Leppard’ tracks, though all 4 flow so well together as glam rock tracks the sound just grows and grows as you go through the years, really enjoying the new track, it really rocks and by the end it just gets bigger and bigger with it’s ride out. Great stuff 🔥

Funny. That's what I put on a Playlist. My exact thoughts. Can't think of any other glam songs like these they have done or would come close.

So, I've tried to like it just like I tried with Fire it Up when that single came out. But a Gary Glitter style drum driven glam tribute song with handclaps, woooh-woooh and loud HEYs, but no guitar riffs ain't my cup of tea. Even if there's a little hook here and there.
Glad many of you like it though! Hope you're not just caught up in the "new material enthusiasm"! ;-)
Here I am still hoping for our guitar players to step up and write some guitar riff driven songs without handclaps for the next album. Hope is the last thing that leaves me! :-)

If I can make my peace with the first 21 seconds of this song somehow then I think I can learn to really like it because the chorus is brilliant and there's some cool sonics in there. I'll see where I am with it in a few days time and some more listens!

Ben's been blocked from uploading a complete cover - here's the outro of the track. Great stuff! It's amazing how fast he covers these new singles note for note.

The lack of interresting guitar work, despite having three (3) world class guitarists, is beyond me. On top of that they ripped of Beat It. And the song is overall too flat and forgetable for my liking. A bit like Fire it Up in that regard. I admire their ambition and effort, but they've gotta let go of the idea of a '70s glam stomper hit now.

It’s alright. Not their best work by far. But, Joe’s voice sounds really, really strong. It’s a catchy tune , but too glam for me. I won’t turn it off, but it won’t be on a playlist. As with the others on the forum, I hope they wrote some good guitar driven songs for the future release.
And by the way, C’mon C’mon is totally not glam. Not even close. Very cool rock song. One of my favorite recently released songs from the band. Even though it’s about 15 years old. Lol

I also already have Dallas, but with possible great set list, have to go to both especially to hear new song live,
