Enjoyed it on first listen. Joe's vocal delivery is great, its a pity this track didn't appear on DSH to 'rock it up' a bit and to add some variety to Joe's vocal in comparison to a lot of the other tracks on the album.
I grew up with this music on the radio and my dad playing it, so I love that beat (which was a trait from the writing partnership of Chinn & Chapman from the 70's - take a look at some of the stuff they wrote back then). I realise I sound like a hypocrite there because I hate it when they ape Queen, but I like this, so maybe I just pick and choose what I like to hear them draw from.
Its obviously going to get compared to Back in your Face, Cmon Cmon & Kick, of those 3 Back in your Face is by far the weakest and they've nailed the 'glam' style on the other tracks IMO.

After a couple of listens, I think I prefer this to Kick. I can definitely hear the 'C'mon C'mon' similarities.
Tom Morello's solo adds something different and fresh to the Leppard sound. Overall, the song certainly has a lot more 'grit' than most of DSH. It'll be interesting to see if this is an indication of what album 13 will sound like.

This was definitely out of the blue!
It actually sounds good to be honest! Just had a listen on youtube on the official DL page, but I don't get why it is called "the Tom Morello" version...?
Does this mean he played on it? Not sure why because they already have two world class guitarists on tap... Anyone shed some light on this please...?!!
And I hope it's is ok to share this here... It is the official version from the official Def Leppard youtube page...
If not, my sincerest apologies, let me know and I'll remove it from my post 😅😁🤘

I wonder if Kick "kicked" this from the album? I prefer Kick personally, but then I have only listened to this a few times so far, and I wasn't a massive fan of Kick either at first. I don't get why it is called "the Tom Morello" version...? Yep, that guitar around 2:30ish (from memory!) is Tom, and you can hear him at the end of the song too.

Fair point about Kick already being on DSH. Its probably called the Tom Morello version because they could have recorded a version with Phil or Viv doing a solo instead.

Did they take the HEY sample right off BACK IN YOUR FACE? The glam songs they've done over the years have been growers for me, which is what I prepared for when I heard the clip and saw all the comparisons to CMON CMON. With that said, the song passes the toe tapping test. I really like Joe's vocal/delivery here - a lot of high energy/attitude throughout as what stood out to me on the clip. There's a fair amount going on in the background in the intro/verses that I think the Atmos mix even further pulls out. The bass sounds just as good as it did on DSH as well (for me the best bass has ever sounded on a Leppard album). Tom Morello is a welcome addition to the song and it's about what you'd expect. I really like that he shows up again at the end and you can hear a combination of him along with Viv/Phil playing along with the vocal hooks. This is my favorite part of the song and wish it was a bit longer. An omission for me would be some sort of additional melodic hook...not sure if that could've been a small pre-chorus or refrain with some classic Lep gang vocals involved. It's great as is, however I think that would've really elevated this. Overall I enjoy the song and it's such a treat to get something new like this only 2 years removed from a 15 song album (and hopefully 1 year away from the next one ).

FWIW it will be on Planet Rock just after 11am. Can't wait to hear the live version of this track too. it's such a treat to get something new like this only 2 years removed from a 15 song album (and hopefully 1 year away from the next one ). Its been a very productive 2 years when you think that before the stadium tour we got DSH, before the world tour we got DS and now before the 2024 tour we get another new track. I'd imagine this will carry on to 2025 if they have a new album out then too.

Okay this ended up being freakin awesome!! I really dig this song. I kept blasting it on the drive to work this morning, and it is definitely a summer banger!! Very well done. Lets hope they keep up this kind of energy going on the new album!!!

First listens can be deceiving, but I like it more than anything on DSH at this point!

It's been one of the most exciting periods of time to be a fan for sure!

You nailed my thoughts! After a few listens, do like the song but can't say it's blowing me away in the same way say Take What You Want did when I first heard that song....or even Kick. I think, like you say, I'd like a little more of a melodic hook in the chorus with some layered backing vocals or something. But they do still have some nice little hooks in it! Good song though and like the overall vibe of it. And it's great having a new song to listen to! Did they take the HEY sample right off BACK IN YOUR FACE? Is this a standalone single or is it preceding something more substantial?

I’m ok with stand alone tracks as a lot of my favs do them now. Tbh what bugs me more is when a band does multiple stand alone songs over the course of 1-2 years and when they do release the album those are on it. A new album imo should not have a song that was released well over a year ago ( looking at you bring me the horizon) it dulls the experience for me at least. I'm the opposite, I like things to be collated I would prefer that We All Need Christmas be on an album....7''s are fun to collect but they get lost.

I’m a bit “meh” on it but hopefully it will grow on me. I just feel like the glam-pastiche stuff has been overdone at this point.
Personally I’d be more interested in a Def Lep song called Just Like 81/ Just Like 83/Just Like 87/Just Like 96 😉

LOL. You do make a good point! Would've been cool to have something talking about 83 to go with the whole Pyromania theme this summer. Although, I suppose Take What You Want was the "Just Like 83" song! I’m a bit “meh” on it but hopefully it will grow on me. I just feel like the glam-pastiche stuff has been overdone at this point. Just looking on the HMV site which is selling the 7” single for £15.99 (!!!) and the blurb says
“To coincide with the start of the band's US tour Def Leppard will release a one-off single 'Just Like 73', a song taking its lead from the Glam Rock Stompers of the 1970's - The A-Side features Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello while the B-Side is the band version that will open the shows.”
Surely the band don’t provide that information to the public domain? I mean, given that in recent years they’ve open with TWYW and prior to that Let’s Go it’s highly probable, but it seems odd to come straight out and say that.

Based on everyone’s reviews I was not expecting to like the new song but I really do!!! It is on the edge of reminding me of old Lords of the New Church punk pop choruses. I think it will also sound heavier live if we get to hear it. I too always hope to hear a more Pyro sounding track but this is definitely a sing it loud in the car song!

Now that I’m awake and have listened to the song a few good times, I must say what an exciting time to be a Lep fan.
As some as said the band has really been feeding us the past years and from the sound of things it doesn’t look like it’s slowing. I love this new song. Imo no one does that roll down the windows and cruise in the summer music better than Leppard. I do agree the glam thing is getting repetitive but each time they put one out, the song is just so fun you can’t help but enjoy it. Curious to hear how Tom Morello ended up on this.
