I wonder what quantities all these different releases have been produced in? Anyone hazard an educated guess?

It's the half speed remastered version I'm thinking of getting. I have half speed version of Ziggy Stardust. Can I hear the difference? In all honesty, no. However, I think it can differ from record to record - some are done better than others - so I'll still give this a go seeing as I don't have the set up to benefit from the Dolby Atmos stuff. What is the "Half Speed Master" I keep reading about...? Was that something I missed when I ordered my box set...? Am extremely curious to see, and more importantly, to hear! Instead of the grooves being cut at full speed, they're cut at half speed, this then gives more detail to the grooves and in theory should improve some aspects of the sound quality. But apparently not all aspects....... heres a good article on it thats well worth a read: thesoundofvinyl.us/blogs/vinyl-101/half-speed-mastering

What is very much evident when you hear an instrumental track is how much stuff you miss because of the lyrics over the top. It's the half speed remastered version I'm thinking of getting. However, I think it can differ from record to record - some are done better than others - so I'll still give this a go seeing as I don't have the set up to benefit from the Dolby Atmos stuff. I guess we would need both of them running side by side to be able to compare them. I think the difference in half speed masters is minute to the ear and is a nice gimmick they can sell to middle aged bald men (like us). But I'm just a miserable cynic.... who bought every format of this release, so they really got me on the hook.

Loving the instrumental tracks. It’s like listening to the album for the first time. Listening to Rock of Ages as I type this and the chorus is so freaking good! Hoping Hysteria gets the same treatment.

I love the rough mixes and keep going back to them. Some of the subtle changes like the snare in TLFL, the synths in DHTH, the differences in ROA, and being able to hear more of Action Not Words with less lyrics are great.

Theres a lot of very subtle differences and the drum sound is definitely different to my ears, and despite it still being a machine its possibly even a little less processed than what they went with in the end? Maybe my mind is playing tricks, but my first reaction to the synths in DHTH was that they seem more pronounced. Theres a little guitar dive during the first verse of TLFL that I didn't recognise too.

Although I received the coloured vinyl last week. I'm finally expecting everything else to be delivered today (boxset, 2cd, half speed vinyl & double black vinyl) Townsend Music had a good deal on buying all 4 of those as a package.

Listened to the Atmos version the other week and loved it but now working through the other mixes. The instrumental version is amazing. The rhythm guitar work is astoundingly good. Was this all Pete & Steve or did Phil contribute?

Thanks for pointing me in direction of Townsend Music andylgr. The half speed remaster is only £22 there. The cheapest I've seen it. Now ordered! Although I received the coloured vinyl last week. Didn't see this being mentioned and maybe it's me, but tracks 1-10..i think until Coming Under Fire..these demos, outtakes..did the band just raid AC DC's riffs or? lol
That's all I hear is ac/dc.

Loving the rough mixes, there are surprise vocals that jump out that were eventually cut, one that I had to go back over and listen to again is the some strange vocal effects on Foolin as the song is getting near to its end, like they repeat the Foolin line and its low in the mix behind the vocals. Didn't see this being mentioned and maybe it's me, but tracks 1-10..i think until Coming Under Fire..these demos, outtakes..did the band just raid AC DC's riffs or? lol That's all I hear is ac/dc. They are firmly placed in that 79-81 era of Def Leppard, when I listen to these demos it brings home the leaps and bounds they made to come up with the tracks they did for the Pyromania album from a construction and melodic point of view.

Finally bagged myself the US Walmart splatter vinyl, paid just over £30 for it. Not a bad price.
