Saw Metallica last night in Manchester, what a great show it was too. I love their in the round presentation, a simple flat white stage, lots of video cubes hanging above them which project live footage and different graphics and they interact with the show too, moving up and down. How they got some of the graphics to appear flat whilst looking at a cube on its corner was an impressive feat. Also whoever came up with the idea of flying drones above the band with lights on for Moth into Flame was a genius. Although one of them went wrong and flew off into the crowd. There was also the obligatory fireworks and pyro too. Musically they were excellent as usual and I love how they make fans feel one with them. My only gripe was I think they could have cut one of the new ones, but they all went down really well. This was the most people I've ever seen at the venue and with it being in the round it meant they could open up every seat so there was around 21000 people in there. Also the security here has been beefed up considerably since the bomb attack earlier this year, lots of armed police around and this is the first venue in the UK I know of thats using airport style walk through scanners and having to turn out all your pockets for inspection too. Setlist was: Intro Hardwired Atlas Rise Seek and Destroy Of Wolf and Man The Day That Never Comes Now That We're Dead ManUNkind For Whom the Bell Tolls Halo on Fire Kirk & Rob solo / Don't Look Back in Anger / Bass solo Stone Cold Crazy Creeping Death Moth Into Flame Sad but True One Master of Puppets ------------- Spit Out the Bone Nothing Else Matters Enter Sandman

I saw Metallica last Wednesday for the 11th time. May 1990 was my first Metallica show. I'm really impressed with the number of different songs they played this tour. Great show!! Next concert is W.A.S.P.

Went to Helloween Pumpkins United yesterday. Great show and production. They really surprised me. They played between 160-170 minutes but with many interruptions.

Saw the Electric Boys last night at the Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton. Most people probably remember them for the MTV hit All Lips n Hips back in 1990 (ish). Even though they formed nearly 30 years ago I still feel that these are such an under rated and almost undiscovered band. I remember first seeing these in 1990 supporting Thunder and I was blown away by them. They released 3 albums (2 of which were on Phonogram) and then disbanded in 94 or 95, but I only saw them the once live. They reformed around 2009 and I got the chance to see them again, (supporting Thunder would you believe), but since then they've released 2 more albums and visited the UK much more regularly and every time they've been here I've taken the chance to go and see them.
This tour was the 25th anniversary of their second album Groovus Maximus and they played it in full as the main set. Whilst the encores were 2 tracks from their debut album Funk O'Metal Carpet Ride and the new single Dishes. This was probably the longest set I've ever seen them play and its a pity there were less than 100 people in the place, that makes me feel a bit bad for them because i like them and feel they deserve bigger crowds than that. It also makes me wonder if its even viable for them to keep visiting the UK.
Setlist:
Intro March of the Spirits Groovus Maximus Knee Deep in You When Love Explodes Mary in the Mystery World Fire in the House Bed of Roses The Sky is Crying Tambourine Tear it Up Dying to be Loved Bad Motherfunker Shes in to Something Heavy -------------------- Electrified Dishes All Lips n Hips

Saw The Darkness last night. The bonus being is that they were playing a venue thats only a 15 minute drive from my house. A venue where I saw my first ever concert back in 1990 and is now criminally overlooked by rock bands these days, who seem to favour the similar size theatres in Manchester, Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
The show was great, this was the most fun I've had at a show for years. Firstly the songs are good and I like the band, secondly they put on a great show with lots of energy and they look like they're having a good time, thirdly the interaction with the audience is excellent and funny too. I often thought that Steel Panther ripped off The Darkness but took the humour too far to the other side, but with The Darkness it's more natural I feel and nowhere near as crude. I realise that maybe I get The Darkness because it's British humour and it may not travel well.
The majority of the set was taken from their debut album, but there was something from all their albums here. The new stuff went down well, (Solid Gold is an instant classic), obviously the older material brought the house down though. But seeing them live again makes me realise that they have some great songs. The sound for the first 2 songs was awful and I thought that it was going to be a long night, but they sorted it and they sounded great after that. Musically and vocally spot on.
Set list
Open Fire Love is only a Feeling Southern Trains Black Shuck One way Ticket Givin Up All the Pretty Girls Barbarian Friday Night Making Out Every inch of You Solid Gold Stuck in a Rut Get your Hands off my Woman Growing on me ------------ Japanese prisoner of Love Christmas Time (Don't let the Bells End) I Believe in a Thing Called Love

I saw Extreme last Sunday. A good show but it was sometimes a little bit messy. Nuno blew four amplifier heads in one set. But what a fantastic guitar player! Next.....Thunder on January 30 in Zoetermeer. Looking forward to that one. They never disappoint me. http://instagram.com/p/BcQZ5f4B2vK

In the last few months I've seen Greta Van Fleet with Goodbye June, Tom Keifer, Foo Fighters and The Struts, Sammy Hagar & The Circle, Alter Bridge, Kix, and The Connells, now I'm done for the year. So far next year I've got in January (hopefully) Dorothy, and Black Label Society/Corrosion of Conformity;in February- G3, Robert Plant, Far Too Jones, Sons of Appollo, and Y&T; in March, Firehouse; in April, Richie Kotzen; in July Foreigner/Whitesnake/JBLZE, and maybe Weezer and The Pixies. I need some DL and Fleetwood Mac dates to plan my schedule!
