Sounds fantastic to me...These guys know how to craft good melodic rock songs. Really looking forward to this album as well as Tokyo Motor Fist. Then hopefully H.e.a.t later in the year Catching up with some new music this week and is quickly showing me 2017 has the potential to be far better then 2016 ended up being. Eclipse has a new album out I'm pretty excited about next month. NEVER LOOK BACK and VERTIGO are great songs, though admittedly they aren't grabbing me as much as the first two singles from their last album ARMAGEDDONIZE did. Still this is one of the best melodic rock bands out there today. Picked up Stephen Pearcy's new solo album today SMASH. Great classic '80s style rock. This album was a pleasant surprise to be honest. Really dig TEN MILES WIDE, WANT TOO MUCH, I CAN'T TAKE IT and JAMIE. Just about the entire album is a good listen. I was also completely caught off guard by how good this new Nickelback song is. Say what you want about their material but I really enjoy these types of songs from them. Obviously a very politically charged and socially relevant song as well.

Spent the weekend (and today) listening to Tesla's studio albums that I didn't have in preparation for seeing them headline for the first time tomorrow in St. Louis. I really enjoyed The Great Radio Controversy and Psychotic Supper, and I was surprised at how heavy Bust A Nut was... Sign of the times, I'm sure. I listened to Simplicity but it was a bit of a struggle. Certainly not their strongest effort, though I've only just started listening to Into The Now (very impressed three songs in) and have yet to listen to Forever More.

I love Shinedown. They were in concert here last year and some friends of mine went and I was invited but that was before I really started listening to them. Now I'm kicking myself! I will definitely catch them next time.

I've been listening to the entire Leppard studio catalogue (except Yeah) this last week or so on the journeys to and from work. When you listen to it in this way the evolution of the band really hits home, not just from a production point of view but also the styles that get introduced along the way. Its only when you get to Retro Active that they really start to mix it up and the albums become much more varied. I find that for me as some of the acoustic based, poppy sounding tracks and some ballads begin to stand out as the weaker material. I got into Def Leppard as a rock band for their rock music, this is their core style for me. But I would say their most consistently good albums go from OTTN up to Slang. From then theres peaks and troughs in each album and the last one is a definite high point as its much stronger overall than some of the ones released since Slang. The mastering on SFTSL really jumped out when listening to them in order, it sound compressed like an mp3. The lack of hooks on Slang is again a factor that jumps out too when listening to them in order, great songs, but its Def Leppard trying not to be Def Leppard almost.

After going through all the Leppard studio albums and in the run up to the new live cd I've had Mirror Ball and Viva Hysteria in the car this week.
I haven't listened to MB in ages as I got really bored of the setlist (one of the downsides of having so many live bootlegs I guess). Putting aside the setlist for a moment the album sounds very good to my ears. The performances are very good and are a reflection of how good the band are live. Its well produced and I think it does well to retain a FOH vibe to it with the effects. The downside of MB that still bugs me to this day is they didn't make use of the space a cd affords. This was Leppards first ever live album and effectively its a compilation from the SFTSL tour, so I don't understand why they didn't squeeze in more songs from the tour. They tagged on 2 tracks at the end from the London SFTSL launch show where they also performed Let it Go, Hallucinate & Wasted. They could so easily have added these too. Also off the top of my head Go, Mirror Mirror and WLAHC were performed a few times on the tour too. Theres probably a few more I've forgotten. So I still feel it was a missed opportunity to add songs that reflect more of their career and also add some variation for those fans that never got to hear some of the rarer songs on the tour.
Viva Hysteria in that regard has no issues. The dream for any die hard fan. You could have a moan that some of the Flatbird songs from other nights are missing, but conisdering the tracks already on disc 2 thats a really minor gripe. Its going to be hard for any subsequent Leppard live album to top this (the only thing that could top it is some shows from the bands heyday from the archive).

Quite a choice to listen to today. Along with the Leps live album I also picked up yesterday Megadeth "Youthanasia", Testament "the Ritual" and the new Thunder album "Rip it up" which comes with a 2cd live show and bonus ep.

Megadeth 'Youthanasia'. Probably the album where they were coming down from their peak after Countdown to Extinction and Rust in Peace. Its not as good as those 2 that preceeded it, but there are some highs on it. Particularly Reckoning Day, Train of Consequences, A Tout le Monde and the title track.
Currently got the new Thunder album on 'Rip it Up', its taking me a while to get in to it, its probably a bit more bluesy than previous efforts. I think this one will take a few listens to settle.

My thoughts exactly! But the song "Right from the Start" I loved right from the start 😁. Different but good.

Metallica 'and justice for all', possibly one of the worst sounding albums I've ever listened to. The production is so distracting, the drums are too tinny and you can't make out much bass. Theres only a couple of songs that break through the distracting production, Harvester of Sorrow and One.
Dio 'Sacred Heart', Vivs last album with Dio. Not as good as the first 2 he did with them. So far I'd say only Rock and Roll Children is a stand out track. I noticed that Last in Line play nothing from this album either.

I've abandoned Metallica's New Album. I can't get into it.. and i wanted to Love it...i would honestly love if Bob Rock came back and produced them. But their fanbase would go nuts if that happened. Heaven forbid they brought back the producer that made them the biggest metaL band on the planet.

I'm also really digging this other new band...One Desire. I'm typically not into keyboards/synthesizers, but this song is well done. The solo at the 3:10 mark is phenomenal. The video is right out of early '90s MTV...complete with full band shots, singing in the mirror and woman stranded. They also have 2 other songs available which are decent but not on the level of this one IMO. Interested to hear what the rest of their album sounds like.

I believed they played it a little bit in 2013 with their first run of shows together as LIL. For me it's the weakest of the first 3 albums or should I say with the original lineup. Other tracks that I enjoy are 'Like The Beat Of a Heart' and 'Rock N' Roll Children'

Got Metallica's latest album for "free" since I bought concert tickets. So it's my duty to listen to it and familiarize myself with these tracks ahead of the concert. Otherwise I have no excuse for not knowing them at the show.
This is only the second Metallica studio album I've gotten, as I only had the black album, S&M (for some reason I bought that when it came out), and various singles and album cuts. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected. I don't know how often I'll revisit the album as a whole but some of these songs will stay in the rotation for sure and I'm looking forward to seeing them live.

I've had the new Thunder album Rip it Up on in the car for the majority of the last month and I've resisted passing judgement on it til now as I initially struggled with it. But after a lot of listens I think its a good album and overall I'm enjoying this one moreso than their last one Wonder Days. Initially what got it off to a bad start for me is that that I thought the title track, (and first single), is nowhere near as good as the corresponding title track and first single from the last album. However I think I've realised that Rip it Up has really a throwaway singalong single vibe in the vein of Stand Up or Dirty Love maybe. So its become a real ear worm for me this last month. When you listen to the Thunder of the last 2 albums compared to some of their previous efforts they really seem to have matured as writers, so lets get the slower songs out of the way first. Right from the Start and In Another Life are 2 great numbers (I'll even forgive the Black Velvet bass line that intros In Another Life because that drives the song along and gives it a real groove), although the final track Theres Always A Lose falls a bit flat. Of the rest album opener No One Gets Out Alive, Rip it Up, Shakedown and The Chosen One stand out for me, with Tumblin Down not too far behind. There are a couple of bluesy tracks in She Likes the Cocaine and Heartbreak Hurricane with the latter being my favourite of these two. The Enemy Inside is one of the weaker ones and along with Theres Always A Loser ends the album on a little damp note. But overall this album was definitely a grower, well worth sticking with and giving a few listens to. Eleven albums in to their career and for me Thunder are now producing consistently better music than they did in the middle part of their career, a really great under rated rock band.

The car system is loaded with a combination of Def Leppard, Merle Haggard and Lynam for today's road trip. Lynam wrote some good music, I wish they would write some new tunes.
