Gave INXS Kick a listen last night. Aside from all the singles I've never heard the whole album before. Pleasantly surprised by it, Michael Hutchence sure was a talent. I'm not sure what genre they fall in to, they're not quite rock and they're not quite pop either.

I'm not sure what genre they fall in to, they're not quite rock and they're not quite pop either. I watched Rick Astley play with the Foo Fighters and he sings really good. I noticed on youtube he has over a Billion views on his 'never gonna give you up' promo video. Serious numbers. But i realized as talented as some some say he is i just dont like that kind of music. But the Foo Fighters Version they did with with him.was solid. Foo Fighters also bought out American Comedian Dave Chapelle. He doesn't, not a note on his body but he got up and sang creep. If you get it you get it.

Sad to say AC/DC is one band I've never seen live. Not sure why. But have sworn that if they tour again and get anywhere near me, I'll be there. What I'd really love to see is a Leppard and AC/DC tour. I was a little young to catch them the last time they toured together 😀 Was listening to the new AC/DC and then realised its not actually that new anymore and is near enough a year old, wheres 2021 gone? Recently discovered Volbeat through their radio friendly hits from 2019, Last Day Under The Sun and Die To Live. Based on some or their earlier music I'm sure some long time fans absolutely loathe those songs, I like them though. Haven't dug too deep but Still Counting is my favorite so far. Lyrics are dark, love the opening line. "COUNTING ALL THE ASSHOLES IN THE ROOM"

Having had our internet radio taken off us at work I thought I'd go old school and dig out my cd walkman. I decided to listen to 3 albums released over the last 12 months that I haven't given much time too.
AC/DC Pwr Up was a struggle to be honest, aside from a couple of the singles nothing grabbed me.
Thunder All the Right Noises, excellent album. Out of 11 tracks I'd say 8 are solid and the others are a couple of ropey ballads and a throwaway final track, Destruction and Going Down to Sin City are stand outs for me.
Iron Maiden Senjutsu, in a word, rubbish. These are so far removed from the band I got into back in the late 80s that I don't recognise them anymore. Theres too many overly long prog songs that make it difficult to make an impact, theres only 10 songs on it and its split over 2 cds, way too long. To my way of thinking Maiden are all about having a few singles and a couple of epics, and all around 45 mins so it doesn't outstay its welcome. They've gone totally the other way and I have to say I'm not a fan of their lyrics or Bruce's delivery, its like he could sit around a campfire and warble these songs with a mandarin.

You inspired me to look at mine. I don't usually pay attention to the Spotify end of year stuff since I primarily listen to music via CDs ripped to my iPhone. My primary use of Spotify is either for random stuff I don't own or listening to new albums when they come out and I haven't gotten the CD yet since it's damn near impossible to get a physical copy on release day these days. I'm STILL waiting on my copy of The Darkness' Motorheart to arrive. So this doesn't accurately represent my year of listening to music but here it is anyway. 01. Fuel - Hard 02. Fuel - Don't Say I 03. Fuel - I'm Gone 04. Weezer - Hero 05. Weezer - I Need Some Of That 06. The Darkness - Motorheart 07. Fuel - Keep It Away 08. Dirty Honey - Tied Up 09. Weezer - All My Favorite Songs 10. The Darkness - Nobody Can See Me Cry 11. Fuel - Give 12. Foo Fighters - Waiting On A War 13. Weezer - Aloo Gobi 14. Alanis Morissette - Uninvited 15. Dirty Honey - California Dreamin' 16. The Darkness - Jussy's Girl 17. Weezer - The End Of The Game 18. Weird Al Yankovic - It's All About The Pentiums 19. Dirty Honey - Last Child 20. Foo Fighters - Cloudspotter Fuel takes several spots even though I found the album decent if not thoroughly underwhelming. I f*cking hate the song "Give" and yet here it is on the list. Similarly, "Waiting On A War" is my least favorite song on Foo Fighters' Medicine At Midnight album but it ranks highest here. Shout out to Weird Al though. The biggest surprise of the list and its inclusion alone cracks me up. As I look through all 100 songs on the list, it's very clear I primarily use Spotify for albums I don't yet have on CD and shuffling through 90's pop. There is only one Def Leppard song on the entire list... 86. 20th Century Boy - Live w/ Brian May 2006 You're welcome for the $0.000000000000000000000000000000036 streaming royalty, fellas.

These top 20 lists are great shares! I wish Apple Music did this as it would definitely be interesting to see what mine would be.
Apple Music switched to all lossless earlier this year which has been a game changer for me...been thoroughly enjoying the service since I signed up. Been discovering some bands I've never heard of (some melodic rock bands like Nestor and Lebrock) to rediscovering back catalog stuff I never really payed attention to in the past but really enjoying from more recent bands like Tremonti to some classic bands like INXS.
2021 has had some great moments musically (like the latest Eclipse album which is phenomenal), but overall it's probably amongst my least favorite years ever for new music, which is actually a bit bizarre considering we are coming off a year with a pandemic. Perhaps there is a lot of music sitting in the can somewhere that we will hear in '22 and beyond (hopefully sooner rather than later)?
Overall Curt I liked the Fuel album as Carl Bell can write some fantastic tunes and despite not having Scallions had some classic sounding Fuel songs (THE ONLY ONES/SEE YOUR EYES I'm thinking of specifically...despite how poppy it is I did really like LANDSLIDE also). The song structures on several were definitely a bit baffling though...can't think of many songs I've ever heard where you are through the second chorus and you are barely a minute into it...? It had some great ideas/riffs but thought it could've been fleshed out a bit more. It's a shame that Bell and Scallions can't get past their creative differences. All of the lineup changes really muddy the waters there.
Oddly enough one of my best music moments this year came from a video game. I picked up Guardians of the Galaxy and for those that have seen the movies you know Peter Quill has an affinity for '80s music...the developer delivered here in spades as the game is chock full of licensed '80s songs (including Leppard's ROCK ROCK!). They also made an imaginary band called Star Lord (the game literally opens with you listening to a Walkman of this album and reading the album liner notes). The album they wrote for this game surprisingly is full of great riffs and hooks and thought I'd share below...GHOST is my favorite of the bunch however shared the full album below also. WE'RE HERE also has an awesome solo with some EVH style picking at the end...great stuff.
Looking for '22 to be better with new music (looking at you Def Leppard let's make it happen!).

My Spotify Top 20 list for 2021. I think one thing that doesn't surprise me is that almost all are 2021 releases as I tend to mostly listen to newer music. I think Shiraz Lane is the only one that snuck in that isn't a 2021 release. And for me, 2021 was an excellent year for new music with a lot of stuff I enjoyed which kept me listening to my 2021 playlist frequently.
1. T.O.T.C - Temple Balls 2. Long Ways, Long Lies - Temple Balls 3. Bad Bad Bad - Temple Balls 4. Big Boys Don't Cry - W.E.T 5. Fire Inside - Midnite City 6. I Don't Need Another Heartache - Midnite City 7. Got To Be About Love - W.E.T 8. Switchblade Sister - Maverick 9. Crawlin' In The Dirt - Midnite City 10. Twilight - Eclipse 11. Bite The Bullet - Eclipse 12. Good And The Bad - Dangerous Curves 13. Never - Maverick 14. Saturday Night - Eclipse 15. I Prophesize - Ronnie Atkins 16. Do You - Shiraz Lane 17. Anthem For America - Crazy Lixx 18. Rise Above - Crazy Lixx 19. Not The End Of The Road - Kissin' Dynamite 20. 1989 - Nestor

Fuel was one of my favorite bands in high school and it's sad to see how they've become a revolving door of musicians at this point. As much as I love(d) them, they aren't that good of a band to demand a Spinal Tap/Whitesnake-esque roster to keep things going. Especially with this weird, 100% changeover/album release schedule they've been on every seven years. I'm not sure there's ever been another band that puts an album out, then seven years later every band member has been replaced and they put another album out, and then seven years later every band member has been replaced AGAIN and they put another album out. It's hilarious and sad at the same time. I had to make a chart on my concert site to keep track of who was in the band when I've seen them live, and that doesn't even cover all of the lineup changes that occurred! Perhaps this lyric from the track “Don’t Say I” best sums up how I feel about this album: “Is this the best we could do?” That lyric happens in the song’s second verse, which is a mere 10 SECONDS long. Yes, just two lines and 10 seconds separate the first and second choruses of the song. No pre-chorus, can’t even muster up a four line stanza, it’s just as basic of a song as you can get. It’s a problem that affects nearly every one of the 11 tracks on this album, which runs just 36 minutes in length with no songs breaking the four minute mark. There is little stylistic variety and I’ve lost track of how many songs use the ‘drums & bass drop out at the start of or during the final chorus’ trope (but it's nearly every single song). Opener and first single “Hard” is decent, but I really hate that chorus. It’s too damn busy and sounds f*cking ridiculous. “Landslide” to me feels like a ripoff of a decent Shinedown song, while “I’m Gone” goes into heavier territory and finally sounds a little familiar to classic Fuel with the lead guitar sound. “See Your Eyes” sounds like a distant cousin to the Something Like Human classic “Scar,” so that’s good. Highlights for me, I guess, include “I’m Gone,” “The Only Ones,” “Hard” (minus the chorus), “See Your Eyes,” and “Don’t Say I.” Yes, as basic as “Don’t Say I” is, it’s still one of the better songs on the album IMO. Yikes. “Give,” on the other hand, is so gratingly annoying that I could barely make it through the mere 3:38 runtime even on the first listen. “4 Walls” is almost as annoying, so there are two easily skippable tracks tucked away in the latter half of the album. The production is good, not great (but way better than Angels & Devils). The performances are solid, but I’m struggling with new vocalist John Corsale in the same way I did with Toryn Greene in 2007… They have very similar voices, which is to say they are more than capable singers but have a cliched, generic sounding rock voice that has been rampant on modern rock radio for the last two decades. There is nothing unique about this album at all. After my first listen, I wasn’t inspired to listen again and there has been very little to bring me back since. Still, I’ve given it several complete spins and listened to the tracks on shuffle as part of my 2021 playlist. The tracks are mostly enjoyable, but largely forgettable. Which is a similar sentiment to how I felt about Angels & Devils when I pitted it against Puppet Strings. Although I will say Ånomåly is better than Angels & Devils. I'd probably put Puppet Strings just barely ahead of both of them, oddly enough. But none of the three come anywhere close to the band's first three albums. Agree it's a shame Brett & Carl can't patch things up and give it another go, granted Brett has lost some range due to age/health. I guess we’ll see what kind of effort Brett Scallions and his new batch of musicians can force out in 2028.

Each of these quotes are hilarious. Agreed that the first 3 Fuel albums were gold. They were definitely a cut above bands like them at that time. I've been a fan since the beginning and I still listen to them relatively often. It also probably explains why I like SEE YOUR EYES so much off the latest one as it sounds very reminiscent of SCAR as you said, which is probably a top 5 Fuel song for me. ANGELS AND DEVILS I thought had great songwriting but I didn't care for the vocals...not really sure if it was just because it wasn't Brett or that I didn't like the new vocalist (perhaps a bit of both). No doubt Brett Scallions has a very distinctive voice that's difficult to replicate. Overall I liked PUPPET STRINGS quite a bit when it released and was impressed with what Brett and the band came up with despite much of it not really sounding like classic Fuel. A lot of your descriptions of the songs on the new one I feel the same way about...I'M GONE is a highlight for me, never got into HARD because of the chorus also, GIVE I've skipped since my first listen, and DON'T SAY I song structure is a head scratcher (Carl must REALLY like the chorus ) I'm not a fan of how LANDSLIDE starts, but once it gets going it's probably the best hook on the album for me. I'm curious which Shinedown song you are referring to it sounding like? I'm a casual Shinedown fan so I can't put my finger on that one. I also like KEEP IT AWAY...has that classic Fuel sound/strong chorus. Carl and Brett must really not like each other these days as I can't help but think it would be pretty lucrative for the 2 of them to join forces again. Oh well...you know what they say about all good things...!

Listening to the new Kissin' Dynamite album Not The End of the Road that showed up on my doorstep a couple days early.
Fantastic stuff if you like catchy, melodic hard rock in the vein of bands like Eclipse, Crazy Lixx, HEAT, etc that are sort of trying to carry on the torch of the 80's bands.
These guys have been around for awhile now but for me this is easily their best album to date.

Spinning the new album from Degreed titled "Are You Ready" that I got a nice surprise finding in my mailbox a day early.
More melodic rock/hard rock sort of in the style of bands like HEAT, Eclipse, etc. These guys though at times have a more commercialized, modern vibe to them but they're still not far removed from those other euro bands. For me this is their best album to date full of catchy, well done songs and some nice variety also.

With new material fever spreading across the forum I doubt anyone remotely cares about other bands right now, but I like the band Treat quite a bit and they released a new song today I'm enjoying. Half the reason I wanted to share the song is this is yet another case in a very long line of my favorite bands making simply baffling choices as the first single off their latest albums. CAROLINA REAPER is the second single off this new album and is significantly more immediate than the first song they released. Come on Leppard don't let us down.

I dig that. Reminds me of the Skid Row debut mixed with HEAT. The song could probably be stronger and I also think a song saying "The Gangs All Here" should have some gang vocals in the chorus but still the best Skid Row song I've heard since Slave to the Grind. These guys could really have something if they can keep Erik around for awhile. And they'll definitely be a more entertaining band to see live. New Skid Row, New Singer, New Single
