back listening to Slang today. Just can't get enough of Pearl of Euphoria. Funny, I just put the record on. It still sounds fresh after all these years.

Having a bit of a mad thing with the sparkle lounge album this week, saw a video on YouTube earlier in the with the documentary that was filmed around it and viv, phil and joes commentary of each track, there are actually some really great tracks on that album, particularly for me the 2nd half of the record, Tomorrow, cruise control, hallucinate, gotta let it go, only the good die young, come around are reallly good Leppard tracks in my opinion.

Been listening to the latest Thunder album, Please Remain Seated. They've basically reworked a bunch of their songs to be more bluesy, acoustic and piano driven. Not my cup of tea at all.

Does the band include ex-Duran Duran guitar player Andy Taylor or the concert that he showed up in December was just a jam that he decided to join ? Just wondering.

I spent all day at work yesterday listening to Alter Bridge's entire discography on shuffle. After a few years being a casual listener, seeing them live and then the release of Live At The Royal Albert Hall made them finally click and become one of my favorites.
Speaking of favorites, I've decided to shuffle through Lep's discography during another busy work day today. Haven't listened to them in awhile. The third song to pop up was "Armageddon It" and the biggest smile hit my face. It's always nice to take a break from Lep and then come back and be swiftly reminded of why they are my favorite band.

He just guested at that show. He produced their first 2 albums.

Skid Row 30th anniversary deluxe edition of their debut album.
30 years old! I'm guessing it would have been late 89 when I got in to these with the 18 and Life single. The digital only release of this album includes a concert from 89 too. Great album, they really should get the classic line up back together. They're missing out on a lucrative tour opportunity IMO.

One of my favorite bands from high school, Weezer, has been on a solid run of releasing albums having put one out in 2014, 2016, 2017, and they have another due in March 2019. Even so, they surprised me today by releasing a covers album. Normally I'm not a fan of covers albums but if they're going to do it out of nowhere while having a high output of original material, I'm all for it. Especially with the song selection. Some typical rock stuff, some 80's pop classics. I love it. Especially "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and "No Scrubs." Of course, the album also includes their cover of Toto's "Africa," which was brought about by a fan online convincing them to record the song. And it became somewhat of a hit. If I was a Weezer die hard fan though, I'd be pissed. Joke is on them since now they'll have a stupid cover forever stuck in the setlist at the expense of original songs. Could you imagine such a thing?!?

Got the latest Classic Rock magazine in the mail the other day. Been working my way thru their 50greatest AOR albums list. Alot of stuff i have not listened to before. WHo knew that Cher made a pretty good AOR album in 1987. Currently being pleasently suprised by Joe Lynn Turners - Rescue You album...

I've been listening to Weezer's surprise new covers album (The Teal Album). Like many, I've been a Weezer fan for a long long time now but they've lost me a bit with a lot of their more recent stuff.
This could quite easily have been a monumental disaster - it's far from that. I like it.

Metallica 'Live Sh*t - Binge & Purge' from 1993 (ish). Quite possibly one of the worst titles ever for a live album. I remember my mate buying the huge video and CD boxset that came out for this in the early 90's, whereas I bought the much smaller CD / DVD reissue later. I don't actually remember actually listening to the live album until this week in all the time I've had it. Arguably its Metallica at their peak touring the black album, plenty of classics, but in a bit of a bloated show with all the noodly widdly bits between songs that can be easily skipped. They sound really good here though, but having said that they still sound great now.

The original vinyl of Electric Boys debut album Funk O Metal Carpet Ride which was released in 1989 in Sweden. This version is different to the worldwide release a year later, as they changed the track listing after they recorded some tracks with Bob Rock. The worldwide version is one of my favourite albums of all time. Listening to the original and I can see why some songs were dropped.
Also dug out my second copy of Retro Active on vinyl to listen to. I rescued this one in a closing down sale, the sleeve is a little battered with a small tear but I’d never listened to the record. In the main it’s perfect except for a tiny scratch between Desert Song and Fractured Love that is audible for probably for about 5 seconds as the needle clicks over the scratch.

Listening to the Mr. Big Catalog. What an underrated band. Such a musically driven band. What would be a simple chord structure for every other band.... they could turn it into a musical journey.
I was really inspired by them as a musician, i found them very challenging to learn. I learned by ear and usually had no problem figuring out songs that way. But with Mr Big they had so much going on that it would take me a week to figure out certain songs.
I've heard that they are retiring this year after their final tour. Their original drummer passed away and they don't seem to feel it's right to carry on after this year or this tour.
It's a shame that the only song they are known for is To Be with you when their Catalog is Amazing.

Agreed Shawn - amazing band. I've always promised myself I'll spend the time to explore the back catalogue more, but at a greatest hits level - exceptional. Seeing Mr. Big and Extreme play together last year ticked off a couple of massive bucket list items for me. And the thought of all the people who went just for To Be With You and More Than Words, but leaving with their faces melted off - priceless
