listening to Bon Jovi Albums from 2000 to present. Looking for that gem on each album. Surpisingly there are gems on each album. I'm compiling those gems into one greatest hits album vs having to listen to every album or hitting skip on the less enjoyable tracks.
I've noticed their producer and co-songwriter John Shanks is now playing live in the band (guitar, vocals)
I wonder what def leppard would sound like with Mutt Lange playing and singing live.

Def Leppards new one. Kiss - asylum, lick it up and animalize. I know this is old, but it came up randomly on my screen. I've been doing this thing where I made a playlist comprised solely of KISS' Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up, and Animalize tracks, with Creatures establishing the overall feel/sound. The point was to shine a spotlight on the songs that I've tended to ignore, particularly Gene's tracks that weren't singles or played live. Those three albums together are close enough in sound and attitude to be cohesive. Asylum starts to veer off into the later 80s, so I left it out. The result is I've fallen in love with "Saint and Sinner" and opened up to "Killer." They both always had notable intro riffs that drip with mood, but I just never let them sink in. It's a crime that Saint and Sinner was never played live as it is actually a stand out in the catalog and deserved as much recognition as War Machine gets (if I never hear I Love It Loud again, it won't be missed.) I always thought Gene's material on Lick It Up was pretty solid, with "Dance All Over Your Face" falling by the way side, so it is really only that track that I needed to give more of a chance to. Animalize is a tougher sell when it comes to Gene's stuff, but I definitely came around a lot more than I did back in the day when these albums were relatively new. I'm finding that "Murder In High Heels" and "Lonely Is the Hunter" have some good stuff going on musically, but come off as unfinished and rushed with choruses that just don't carry them and lyrics that are mostly placeholders. Ditto for "While The City Sleeps," which has a chorus that will get lodged in your head (always had a guilty pleasure for this one.) I still can't really get into "Burn *Edited by Admin* Burn" though and it definitely didn't deserve to be the only Gene track from that album to be attempted live. Other than that, I've been listening to the newly discovered soundboard show from the Revenge tour, "Live in Dayton" and the Bethlehem rehearsals. The Cleveland show was the only other soundboard I had from the tour, which suffers from a poor mix. Why is it so damn hard to get a hold of the perfect recording the "Watchin You/Hotter Than Hell/Firehouse" trifecta? It's criminal they didn't just put that on Alive III. The Dayton show sounds great, but the actual performance isn't quite as good as what you hear in Cleveland, Detroit (also lacking in sound quality) or East Rutherford (Audience DAT.)

I AM a fan of the newer stuff and quite enjoy This House Is Not For Sale for what it is. I am wondering what your choices were, as well. Right off, "Thick As Thieves" is my absolute favorite of the last few years and ranks at the top in the overall catalog. It's a grower type that takes hold with repeated listens and an ode to a loved one that avoids being sappy, but rather a "f**k yeah, we made it, baby!" sentiment. The first thing that got me about the track though was how it seems to just subtly and gradually swell, growing brighter as it progresses, as if a dark night gave way to a star-filled, moon-lit sky illuminating the road ahead.

The new solo album of Myles Kennedy "Year Of The Tiger". Beautiful album with fantastic lyrics. Very different from the Alter Bridge music. Myles voice is magic. Highlights on the album 'Love can only heal' and 'Blind Faith'.

Been listening to the Thunder live album Stage, they sound great of course. But one thing live albums lose is the feeling that you’re in the venue listening to it. Sometimes on this the crowd are edited out and it sounds like the band are playing in an empty studio. I’d like to hear the crowd singing along and it may be hard to do but give the sound a feeling like it’s in a large venue that you’re listening to. I think examples that get close to this are Queensryche Operation Livecrime and ITRIYF. I was t much of a fan of Thunders choice of setlist either, it was too close to their previous albums tour and not expansive enough across their catalogue.

This week its new stuff from Maverick, Station and Perfect Plan. Expected to love Maverick and Station but really surprised with Perfect Plan....another new melodic rock band from Sweden that is really good. Reminds me a little bit of Harem Scarem's United album in their approach...solid album. Great week for new music

Got on a kick of listening to Songs From The Sparkle Lounge this last week after its 10th anniversary (in the US, at least). When I moved on from that to listening to the 2015 album the difference in production was night and day. Listened to Mirror Ball all the way through as well, and I still believe it has one of the best mixes I've ever heard on a live album.
Newer albums I've been playing are Breaking Benjamin's Ember and Red Sun Rising's Thread.

New Shinedown album Attention Attention.
Listened all the the way through 3 times since Friday and already like it a lot better than their last Threat to Survival. The album is a bit conceptual or themed with most songs having darker lyrics. Not sure how well the album will be received by fans of the last few albums but like that the band tried something different and kept the ballad type songs to a minimum. Devil, Black Soul Attention Attention, Monsters, Creatures, and Evolve are all pretty good and Human Radio is growing on me.

Thought I'd share some recent fantastic acoustic sessions I just discovered from two of my favorite bands STP and Alice In Chains. The former just put out a fantastic new album and the latter is about to do the same (which I'm very excited about).
The STP one is split up on Youtube, but I linked a fantastic rendition of INTERSTATE LOVE SONG. The new vocalist Jeff Gutt is such a great fit with that band.
The Alice In Chains video has acoustic renditions of two of their more recent songs YOUR DECISION and VOICES (complete with some MTV Unplugged style mistakes/redos) and an awesome acoustic rendition of their brand new song THE ONE YOU KNOW. Their new one took 5-6 listens before it clicked with me but am really liking it - looking forward to the pending album announcement.

Whilst buying the Vault clear vinyl yesterday I also picked up the latest album from The Darkness - Live in Hammersmith, recorded on their UK tour last year. I recommend this album to anyone, sounds great.

The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith
Great live album, though I'm a little iffy on the production sometimes and there are some sloppy edits between songs to make the show fit on a single disc. Aside from the Christmas song, I enjoyed everything else played and it's nice to see a great b-side make the cut as well.

Aside from the Christmas song, I enjoyed everything else played and it's nice to see a great b-side make the cut as well. If the show I saw on this tour is anything to go by then they cut a lot of banter and general messing about out of this London show in order to fit it on one disc. Which I have no problem with, although some of the gaps between tracks are very short and maybe too choppy. I like the fact that to my ears this sounds like I’m there listening to them, some live recordings are too sterile, almost like they’re in a studio playing to no one (Thunders recent live album Stage springs to mind there).

Tremonti - A Dying Machine Myles Kennedy - Year Of the Tiger,
it's quite amazing how 2 members of Alter Bridge have produced 2 absolutely fantastic solo albums this year, both of equal quality but both so vastly different in sound from each other, it's hardly any surprise Alter Bridge are such a great band when you have members of that quality putting their heads together !
also going through the leppard vinyl box set and loving the new Darkness live album,
