I have to give a huge high five. Your recap of your experience leading to actually arriving at the arena to see your childhood/current rock heroes getting inducted and then to perform, was beautifully written. Several times your words brought me chill bumps! You did an excellent job and I thank you for taking the time to take us with you on this fabulous trip with this incredible "band of brothers"!

TurnToDust86 great review as always, with plenty of comments that hit home with what it’s like to be a fan of the band. I was moved watching the video of Joe’s speech, in particular his comments about Pete and Steve. But the reaction Rick got and his response to it made me well up too. In many ways the introduction of Rick is a given at every show, it’s an easy way to get a good response from the crowd. The only other time I’ve ever felt like I did at his HOF intro was ten years ago at the Download 2009 show at Donington where Rick was crying and the crowd response was something above and beyond any normal crowd reaction, again that was a special event and obviously a place important in Leppards and the band’s history. Even now nearly 35 years after the accident a whole new generation are discovering the band, hearing Ricks story and they’ve gained a whole new level of respect at his and the band’s story of triumph I think. Interesting comments about the Cure too, I’m amazed so many band members made the cut given the length of time some of them have been in the band. I saw Reeves Gabrels in Bowie’s Tin Machine side project in 91, great guitarist, arguably wasted in The Cure. Don’t get me wrong they’re a great band though but I feel not that suited to a rock guitarist.

Hope no one is ill as a result of being around Stevie during the afterparty. Last week Fleetwood Mac postponed their Tuesday and Friday shows and yesterday there was an announcement that the remaining 4 shows of their US tour have been postponed due to Stevie being ill. In that announcement, Mick F is quoted as saying "The flu has sidelined Stevie for a couple of weeks", which means she was sick the night of the HOF induction if Mick's comment is accurate. http://instagram.com/p/BwDEVHFgjDj

I ordered a copy of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony program. It's quite large (12in x 8.5in x 0.375in) and very well done (though Def Leppard band members are misidentified in one photo). Here's a bit of info from the program. Please forgive the quality of the two ad images -- the program can't be laid flat and isn't easy to hold open and photograph at the same time. These are the people responsible for nominating Def Leppard.... CSM Management (Def Leppard and Stevie Nicks' management company), Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac were "34th Annual Induction Ceremony Donors". Haven't been able to locate the amount a sponsor must donate in order to be considered a "Platinum Sponsor". The top donation level is the "Chairman's Committee". "Gold Sponsors", "Patrons" and "Benefactors" are the donation levels below "Platinum Sponsor". The back of the program contains "congratulations" ads. Def Leppard's management company and their business accounting company each placed an ad. Stevie received an individual congratulations ad from another firm and Bryan Ferry received an ad from Jeffrey (don't know who that is). All of the other ads were directed to the "2019 inductees" as a group.

The actual ceremony ran a bit over 5 hours. Two hours cut for the HBO broadcast. The broadcast was prepared by the RNRHOF itself, not HBO (I heard a HOF rep say that on SiriusXM Volume). The artist induction order has been changed for the broadcast. Def Leppard still the final inductee, but their performance of Hysteria has been cut. HBO to Air 2019 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY by TV News Desk Apr. 23, 2019 The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Roxy Music and The Zombies are the inductees on the exclusive HBO special 2019 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY, debuting SATURDAY, APRIL 27 (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT). Excerpt: Now, let’s redo it for TV. That job fell to director-producer Alex Coletti from HBO and the editors under him, and frankly, they succeeded beyond anyone’s expectations. The first and best move was cutting that five hours to three. Yep, three. And trust me as one who was present for those original five-plus hours, nothing worthwhile ended up on the cutting room floor. Nicks got her 37 minutes, by far the largest chunk of time. None of the other inductees got more than 30 for their closeups, Mr. DeMille. But again, the only thing you missed (but didn’t really) was drag-on speechifying so common in awards shows. Coletti’s other move was something you couldn’t really determine till after the fact: Putting the show in order of quality. Yes, Nicks opened the show, so yes, her position was a necessary lock. But it was also far superior to some of her latest gigs with her usual band, Fleetwood Mac, especially with an appearance by Eagle and Hall of Famer Don Henley on her hit, “Leather and Lace.” But by far, though, the performance of the night from opening note to final round of applause came from Robert Smith and the Cure. Best music, best vocals, best best. So Coletti re-structured the show so that the order of appearance was Nicks, the Cure, Jackson (who was probably the most boring presence onstage the entire night), Roxy Music, Radiohead, the Zombies and Def Leppard. And it all took away from the real tedium of a pure awards show and turned it into a performance. I can’t say that the three hours flew by, but it didn’t feel like a root canal. SourceSo.... HBO did do the actual edit. Leaves me wondering why the HOF rep on SiriusXM the night of the ceremony said his team wasn't done -- still had the work of editing the ceremony for HBO. Guess "his team" included HBO staff.

"... nothing worthwhile ended up on the cutting room floor." I may be a newbie, but I'd say Hysteria was worthwhile even if it wasn't their greatest performance. Why Nicks got the lion's share of time at the event, I still don't understand. It felt like everybody else's set got cut to make up for her very extended segment. Nothing against Nicks, but I felt that was odd (as did various rabid Nicks fans in the audience around me.)

The video made me tear up just like that night. Such good guys. I don’t care about awards, but this was so very well deserved and merited. Sav’s smile around 1:05 is just pure mischief and joy.

I'm watching the HBO broadcast now. They've rearranged the order of the ceremony. They've got The Cure second, when in actuality Radiohead came after Stevie Nicks. Bizarre.

Observations from Twitter:
Almost 42 years into their career and there are still people who just found out tonight that Def Leppard isn't an American band.
A few comments by people surprised by how good they are.
Lots of positive comments about Joe's speech and the band's performance.

Well merited positive comments. They blew the roof off the place. In the same vein as the people who didn't realize they weren't American, my new neighbor was just over a few minutes ago and saw the show on my TV. He said something or other about "Oh, you like that Neil Schon guy, huh." Conflating Joe with Neil. Yikes. And speaking of people tweeting about the guys tonight--This is a picture I hadn't seen before.

I took a friend to a show in 2015 and half way through, she looks at me in astonishment and says "the drummer's only got one arm!" She had no idea. Yet she knew of the band already and recognised nearly every song.
