I gotta give Neal Schon some credit. When they were talking about how Leppard aren't in the RRHOF in an interview before the tour, Schon said "after this tour you will be". I think playing stadiums, MSG and whatnot really did make it impossible to ignore them. Careful, Neal may start taking exclusive credit for Leppard getting into the HOF. I lobbed you a hanging slider there and you knocked it out of the park.

If it were me in Pete's position I'd really be wondering what if. Within a year of him leaving the band they were huge based on the material he helped to write and performed on. From then they went through the roof in terms of their success and are still going 36 years since he left, so it must have been very hard to come to terms with.
If they get inducted I hope he gets his moment in the spotlight. He can stand there and take some of the recognition for what he also helped to build with the other members back in the bands early days as a founding member.
Theres always the chance that he may not want to be in the limelight, but I hope he does.

There was an episode of the US version of The Office where they had a costume contest and everyone voted for who they thought the worst one was in an effort to take away votes from who they thought was their toughest competition. So of course the one they thought was the worst won the contest.
Before I contribute to that type of situation for this, I'm only voting for Leppard each time.

Pete contributed a lot more than Viv and at least equally to Phil to Leppard's prime studio legacy. You can't compare Pete to Viv fairly in the studio because Viv didn't have Mutt to craft his ideas...i highly suspect def leppards sound would be much heavier if Viv and Mutt had worked together. Add to that Viv joined in a decade that fans hated the previous decade.

Add to that Viv joined in a decade that fans hated the previous decade. Agreed. If not for Viv I cant believe they would be as big today as they are. They chose wisely when meshing him into the band. They were huge then, and they are pretty huge in 2018. However, today they continue selling yesterday's music very heavily, with Viv playing those songs (and more), night after night to new fans. How many studio albums to Viv's credit? Though not as financially successful, I blame radio and the times we are in. Let us not forget the illegal downloading era too. Arguably 1996 is not new, but those newer albums are what bridged them to the future 2018 & still making music and playing live. If they had stopped growing after Pete or Steve left, they could be just 'has beens' with a 2 really great albums. In 2018 they have a cataolgue of albums to their credit. I hope Pete comes WHEN inducted, and I hope he plays as the 6th Lep. I do not look forward to all the media debates to come, about who is better, etc. blah blah yuck.

I know Eddie Trunk has boo-hooed the importance of the fan vote. The last 5 years the winner of the fan vote did get in. In the event their fan votes might fall short, what are everyone thoughts regarding Leps merit Vs. the other nominees? I still like their chances. Example: Stevie wins fan vote, but the Hall votes her in based on number of votes by the committee regardless. How would that bode for Lep?

I mentioned this before but the fact Bon Jovi got in, they are running out of headliners that are still active and how many bands are left that have sold over 100 million recordings? I don't think Stevie should be there based on her solo career. I think she is there because of her time in FWM. I think def leppard will get in and be inducted next year. The fact they we're ignored for 13 years is a good sign FOR NEXT YEAR.
How many bands are 40 years in still touring and recording and are growing their audience?
YOU CAN'T IGNORE THEM ANYMORE HOF......

Also only voting for Leppard. Honestly, I'd vote for others if I felt they were deserving. But for my own personal tastes/beliefs, there's nobody else on that list that I would consider voting for. less than 6000 difference.
i think lepps need to win vote.
nicks, american iconic. rundgren, american, iconic producer. janet jackson, huge sales, iconic, american, diversity.
left with two. critics love radiohead. then between the cure and lepps, similar era, would think critics prefer the cure, hence why winning the ballot essential.

Less than 5500!
When Bon Jovi were inducted they had I think Desmond Child turn up and be interviewed.
It would be fantastic if Mutt Lange turned up and did an interview, though whether the journo's could resist asking about Shania is open.
Perhaps if David Fricke did a video interview with Mutt he would be willing to do that.

Thanks for the audio, CindyJ!
Leppard is around 3,800 votes from the lead spot. I would expect them to take first place within the next 24 hours. And then there are weeks ahead of us where we can secure them a larger and larger lead! So fun to see the fans rally on their behalf. I remember a poll back around 2000 about the greatest music video of the 80's and the fans voted enough that PSSOM beat out Thriller by quite a margin.
Plus this is yet another numbers game for my inner geek to have fun with for the next few weeks....

Another 1,000+ shaved off Stevie's lead since I last posted. I've spent way too much time watching the voting activity today. In case you'd like to benefit from it, here are a couple of things I've noticed:
Stevie's lead is decreasing by about 200 votes per hour.
There have been some occasional times that the page has refreshed and Stevie has garnered more additional votes than Leppard during the time lapse, but the vast, vast majority of refreshes show Leppard getting more additional votes.
DL fans rock!

Thanks Cindy so much for the audio links!! Joe was quite a bit perkier on his intvw with Eddie Trunk. Although I'm sure the early morning hour combined with perhaps not knowing the other outfit as well had Joe playing it close to the vest. I really enjoyed his comments in the intvw with Trunk and it's great to hear how much it means to Joe and the boys that the fans had a huge driving influence in getting the RnRHoF to wake the hell up and take notice. I really don't see how they don't get it, but do you know how the vote works in terms of the 1,000 anointed ones who cast ballots? Do they cast a vote for their top 3, top 5 etc? Similar to sports HoF votes where they accumulate "points" or votes to see who ends up at the top? Or is this a one-vote per person thing and whoever is at the top of the heap, say a top 5 above a certain threshold of votes gets in? Is that enough questions for ya? Haha
I've never really paid close attention to this as for me, it just seemed silly that any artist/band that has sold over say, 50M records isn't by default automatically entered in. I get the voting for songwriters/influencers etc. but bands should get in because millions of people love and listen to their music. Period. Just my .02. Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can impart!

Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can impart! Each of the 1000 or so voters will submit a single ballot that contains their 5 choices for induction. One additional "fan ballot" will be created based on the final fan vote tally. That ballot will contain the 5 artists who receive the most fan votes. So.... if Def Leppard lands in the top 5, they and the other 4 artists will each receive 1 additional vote when all of the submitted ballots are tallied.

Cool, that makes sense...so the fan ballot essentially counts as 1 of 1,001 ballots...or really 1 additional vote out of a potential 5,005 total votes? Do we know if there is a threshold cut-off above which an artist needs to be in terms of total votes? Like at least 1,000 out of 5,005? I know I'm getting technical and probably should just look up a past vote, but wondering if it's just top 3 or 5 or at least a certain % of the 5,005 that determines who gets in for a given year.

^^^^^^
Excellent, that's what I was hoping. Thanks again Cindy!!
Just don't see how they don't get in...and while the fan vote is only 1 total ballot, no doubt it will influence voters thinking when they see the results...unless they have already voted.
But is it just me, or does it "feel" like they know they are already in? Maybe it's just my own bias-driven wishing.

Well, the rate of the margin narrowing between Stevie and Leppard is definitely less in the later part of the day compared to the earlier part. Now it's an average of about 100 votes an hour. Still, under 2,000 by the end of the day (EDT) seems a reasonable goal and I think there's a good chance they'll take first place tomorrow.
For those of you growing tired of my numbers geek updates, I will stop once Leppard takes 1st place. Most likely....
I agree that it really seems just about a foregone conclusion that Leppard will get in. I can't imagine them being passed over for five of the others on this list, especially after we've had eight-ish weeks to give them a massive lead on the fan vote. It may only count for one vote in the end but it sends a message.
