Rush deserves it.
Def Leppard 1980-2003 deserves it.
Def Leppard 2004-2012 does not.

I think the R & R HOF is pretty laughable with some of the bands that are in.....and some that aren't...
I know I'm a little bias...But not having Leppard in there is a travesty if you ask me. Their career has spanned 30+ years....They have one of the most succcesful albums of all time with Hysteria....and they were really one of the pioneers of the whole music movement in the 80's.
There are just plenty of acts in the HOF that don't have half the resume that Leppard does. Heck, Guns N Roses is in and I don't think their career stacks up to Leppard. I mean, GNR had a great 4-5 year run....And that was it. Leppard was pretty big with Pyromania even before GNR came on the scene....And the Hysertia years easily stack up against GNR's Appetite years.....And Leppard kept their core lineup in tact while GNR fell apart....
I'm sorry...But I just have to laugh at that list of nominees. I mean, I've listened to a lot of music since the 1970's....But until reading that article, I had never once in my life heard of Kraftwerk.....Who the heck are they? I just find it amazing that an act could be up for the HOF that I've never heard of at all.
I just find it pretty hard to believe Leppard isn't more deserving than Kraftwerk....Or the Marvelettes....Another act I've never heard of.
I know there are all different tastes in music....But we're talking about a HOF....The best of the best....Acts that rose above their peers, mastered their craft, represented the industry, defined a genre of music, etc, etc....
I just did a little experiment....asked 10 of my co-workers....All 10 had heard of Def Leppard....Even a 58 year old lady who still watches Lawrence Freakin Welk....Most we also able to name at least one song...
But not one of them had ever heard of Kraftwerk.....LOL.
Now I have no doubt Kraftwerk was probably huge in Germany....Okay...So put them in the German HOF....
No offense ot anybody that might like Kraftwerk...OR the Marvelettes ;D
Okay....rant over.

As for Kraftwerk I may be the one and only freak who has heard of them. Never really liked them just not my cup of tea. My husband however likes their stuff which is why I have actually heard of them. With the list out now I feel Eddie Trunk is due for rant on that Metal Show when new episodes air.

It doesnt matter whether Leps get in there or they don't. I arent a fan of Kraftwerk, but they were one of the electronic pioneers of the 1970's. An influential band that defined a genre. So in that respect they can be argued as being the best of the best. They could be regarded as more or equally as influential as you would consider the Leps to be. They were big in Europe especially. GnR it could be said burned very brightly for that short 5 year period. Just like bands like Nirvana did (are they in there)? Look at the Sex Pistols, short career and epitomise a musical movement. I guess longevity doesnt equate to brilliance as most bands, although they keep going, only have a small window of success. Leps havent done a lot in the last 20 years in reality. Maybe the Hall of Fame should run the list by you first? ;D

I think it sucks that they are not in there. I think it is awesome that Heart is nominated they deserve to be in it. I do believe the Leps deserve to be there too. It makes me mad that bands get passed over and looked over in favor of bands that are not even Rock. Ok my rant is over.

I kind of hope Heart gets in, but then again, there are a lot of egos in the RRHOF and if crazy party boys GNR are in there, I don't think Heart wants to be among such hair band company.

Rush has earned a spot in the HOF without a doubt it's the biggest Joke in the Industry and has showed how out of touch and disjointed the selection committee is.
When you look at bands that have had an impact on music fans and the industry that are still not in you have to wonder wtf the selection committee are on.
When you look at a band like GNR who were big for that 6 year period and really that Use your illusion double album was filled with mostly garbage and sold because of hype vs good songs. Appetite for destruction was no doubt a great album.
Then look at Bon Jovi........ one of the biggest bands in the world and still can't get in the HOF.....
Kiss should be in for their Marketing and Branding influence on the Industry alone. They made it ok for all other bands to sell things outside of their music and create multiple revenue streams for bands to survive. Now more than ever bands depend on other revenue streams to survive with no one buying music and the lack of record company support bands are footing the bills themselves.
If Bands are being judged on their entire careers then for sure Def Leppard should be in. If they are being Judged on Career making albums that struck a chord with fans and the industry around the world like say Appetite for destruction did for GNR then Def Leppard should be in the HOF for Hysteria alone. That album woke everyone up and said hey look we just made a greatest hits album on one CD Release.
I could rant about the HOF for another hour but it is what it is.....
I wish Eddie Truck would get the financial backing he needs to start up a proper fan voted Music Hall of Fame.
The Best thing they could do is put the voting in the hands of the fans. Have a set criteria and those bands get nominated and the band votes them in.

HEART used to laugh at the hall of shame like KISS & Leps do. I guess when you finally get nominated you feel differently? It is so political & full of BS!!! Every year I am shocked at some of the nominees.

this Rush Quote from Rush made me lol on the HOF Nomination
In an official statement Rush say: “We are honoured to be among the nominees for this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many, many dedicated fans to whom this nomination is so very important.”
they couldn't give a f*** but they are happy for their fans.
class acts
WOW having a look at those nominated this is one of the weakest lists i've seen in a while.
Rush, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Procol Harum, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Albert King, Kraftwerk, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, Public Enemy, NWA, Chic, the Marvelettes and the Meters.
they should get in for the name alone "Marvelettes and the Meters"
AWESOME ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Joan Jett before DL?
I don't really care if DL gets in or not, but come on... She's awesome but I fail to see how she would even be nominated before bands like DL and Kiss.

Andrew at melodicrock.com thoughts on the RnR HOF Announcement "RNR HALL OF FAME DESPERATELY TRIES TO HANG ONTO SOME ROCK N ROLL CRED: It only took them a decade and a half, but finally the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame has seen to give some credit to 3 classic rock artists - Deep Purple, Rush and Heart are all nominated to be inducted to the Hall Of Fame in 2013. Of course, these 3 iconic acts couldn't be included without several more completely irrelevant and pointless names (N.W.A. for God's sake!!!! Plus Public Enemy and Kraftwerk among others). Isn't this the ROCK Hall Of Fame? Ah, who cares...there is still about 50 other acts being ignored, so I'll leave it at that." lol

Why on earth would you ignore bands like Heart and Rush let alone Deep Purple in favor of some of the trash that has been inducted.

Rock Hall judges 'know too much'"Former director says induction process is methodical and effective - despite constant controversy over who goes in The former director of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame says the induction process he helped set up works well. And contrary to claims the judges don't know what they're talking about, he insists they actually "know too much." Terry Stewart bowed out of the Cleveland establishment in January after 14 years at the helm. Previously the head of Marvel Comics, he says the only thing bigger than his record collection is his graphic novel collection." Sorry, if there's already a thread for this. I just got back from going to the RRHOF induction. I'm a huge Rush fan and have been part of a huge fan base that has been screaming for this for years. We took over the place!! It was soooo *Edited by Admin* awesome. Check out some of the videos on YouTube if you get the chance.
With so many deserving bands, it became obvious to me over the past few years that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If we want DL to get in, everyone needs to start making some noise....and not just a little bit.
There are a few Facebook pages that have started up in support of this. I don't have the answer, but I know, that Rush got in because the fans demanded it overwhelmingly.

Got a link to the Facebook page? I cannot believe Donna Summer got in over Def Leppard. If it is going to be the pop music hall of fame, they should be forced to change the name.

RNRHOF is a bs, pardon my expression.
But you can clearly see that from the number of inductees that have no place there. It's really sad.
But hey, if there's a way to get Leppard in - I'm all game. Regardless of what I think of the institution xD ;D

It wasn't until Heart got inducted during the induction ceremony that the "Rock and Roll" portion started. Do a search on Facebook for Put Def Leppard in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

We ran into Chuck D of Public Enemy at 3:00 AM at an IHOP and asked him what he thought of Alex's speech and he said it was way better than Flavor Flav's speech. Hilarious! Seeing the Foo Fighters play 2112 in white kimonos was pretty awesome too. 80% of the crowd were Rush fans and we completely took over the place. If we can get Def Leppard in, it would be the same.

If DL ever make the RRHOF which band members would be inducted?
Would Viv even be included?

That goes to show us that if DL ever makes it to the RRHOF, would Viv even be included? Of course Viv would be included. Why not? He's been in the band 22 years.
