The new Tool song, Fear Inoculum. I've always been just a casual fan and an ex-boyfriend got me hooked on their first album back in the 90s. Another favorite song of mine is Vicarious. I'm looking forward to hearing the new album!

Listening to the new Defiants album Zokusho today on repeat Excellent slice of melodic rock that picks up where the last album left off. These guys know how to craft catchy, hook filled songs. I'd say it's essential for anybody that liked the debut album. Here's a taste:

First three songs in....FLOORED. Guitar solo in Love Is The Killer, absolute shredder. THIS is the kind of music I want to see live. Bit of a week from hell in terms of getting to work this week with loads of delays and accidents meaning some days a 45 minute journey was taking 2 hours! What better way to pass the time than loads of 80s pop, from the early 80s New Romantics all the way through to the late 80s and Stock, Aitkin and Waterman’s chart dominance with all the cheesy pop acts they produced, with synth pop, movie soundtrack songs, Euro pop, some goth and everything else in between.

Agree! There are some amazing songs on this album IMO for those that like this style of melodic rock. I miss the days when this music would've been ruling the airwaves! I guess I'm just glad some bands are still making this music I'm having a hard time deciding what my favorite tune is....It's either Hollywood in Headlights shared a few posts earlier or the following song: Another tune I really like is Hold On Tonight. I get a very Def Leppardish vibe from this one for some reason....some of the chords, riffs, production or something lol....especially around about the 3:40 mark for the solo. The whole album is solid. Definitely first three songs & It Goes Fast are my faves so far. Obviously a Danger Danger vibe, some DL & Bon Jovi feel too. It's pretty rare that i'll put on a new record and not have to skip through songs. Didn't skip with this one. Production is near perfect for a rock record. This just kinda perpetuates my love/hate relationship with Frontiers. They pump out SO much & every once in a while i'll fall in love with a band of theirs. And in doing so pretty much have to accept that i'll probably never get to see them play live without going to Italy. These guys NEED to be on tour. Agree! I do have to say at least on the first couple listens I was a bit disappointed in the back half of the album, it's perhaps not as complete as the first album, but it's great nonetheless. Not sure I'm a fan of the techno stuff they have going on in a few of the songs either. I may have been expecting a bit more as all 3 singles they released prior to release were all fantastic songs. I will second the shout out for HOLD ON TONIGHT, it's always a thrill to hear an album for the first time and find your favorite immediately like a diamond in the rough. The second the riff kicked in the first time I was taken back and immediately turned the volume up. The breakdown after the second verse to solo (around the 3:06 mark) is just stellar with that melodic riff and the gang vocals...I also immediately thought of HYSTERIA style Leppard.

I agree 100% that the front half is stronger than the back half. For me, the first 5 songs are darn near perfection. It seems like in the second half they got a little bit more experimental. It's not quite as immediate but there's some growers and it's still not bad stuff. I'd say It Goes Fast is my favorite tune in the second half also. I'm not sure about Alive....Kinda U2 mixed with modern Bon Jovi. And don't care for Drink Up much. Rest I like though. I know this is a Def Leppard forum lol....So apologize for non-Def Leppard posts. It''s clearly Def Leppard influenced stuff though Agree! Not one of my faves but does have the Foolin guitar solo ,as never intended, at 2:01...

Listened to a Sebastián Bach 30th anniversary show of Skid Rows debut album from his latest tour. He plays the album in order (except he starts with Tornado and the rare track Forever before going in to Big Guns). He finishes off with an encore of a couple of tracks from Slave to the Grind, (The Threat and Monkey Business). It’s a great show, I really hope he brings this to the UK and he still does the songs real justice and sounds good still. What a frontman he is, indeed the Skid Row shows I saw back in the early 90s were some of the best gigs I went to.

They opened for Motley Crue at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany October 14 1989.Good times!

I've had Bolan on shuffle all day long. No particular reason--just in that kind of mood. I had no idea until a few minutes ago that today would have been his 72nd birthday.

Two weeks before the residency, I ended my Leppard hiatus and I've been on a binge ever since. Especially my playlist of the 28 songs featured in Vegas.
Recently I've been giving the new Steel Panther a spin. Some enjoyable tracks as always but in the end I think I'll find this their weakest album. Looking forward to new releases from The Darkness, Down N Outz, and Alter Bridge over the next three weeks so I'll have a lot of new stuff to get to know all at once. And the delayed release of Stone Temple Pilots' Purple deluxe edition.

The Darkness are supposedly playing their new album in full on their upcoming tour. I've gone right off Steel Panther lately, but I'll give the album a whirl.

They're awesome. Should check out their second album "There Goes The Neighborhood" also if you haven't yet. They've had my #1 album the past 2 years Basically just 80's influenced melodic rock kinda similar to the Defiants IMO. One of my favorite newer bands I've been listening to Midnite City lately. I haven't really picked a favorite yet, but if you haven't heard them yet, check them out!

Cranking the new Eclipse album Paradigm. Pretty much falls in line with what they've done on their past few albums....Excellent melodic hard rock!

Cranking the new Eclipse album Paradigm. Pretty much falls in line with what they've done on their past few albums....Excellent melodic hard rock! I've been on a huge Eclipse kick this past week in anticipation of the new one. Along the way I've found a new appreciation for some of their older material that I hadn't paid much attention to before. I really like the ARE YOU READY TO ROCK album now. I've really enjoyed every single they've put out so far for this new one...the way it's going it may rival ARMAGEDDONIZE as my favorite album of theirs. What a huge chorus THE MASQUERADE has. My favorite so far has been MARY LEIGH. The call and response in the verses is awesome over the top of the very melodic lick. Vocal melody/hooks are some of the best they've done. They have an attention to detail that few bands have...such a shame they are not much bigger than they are.

Agree! I wouldn't put the new one ahead of either Bleed & Scream or Armageddonize...But it might be ahead of Monumentum. It's close but I like how the new one feels a bit more varied. I also liked all the singles. I was actually a little iffy on Mary Leigh at first just because of the strange title. I'd of rather they called it "Bullet In Me" or something lol. In the end it's kinda similar to Hypocrisy from the first Nordic Union album I guess where he just sang "Caroline" in the chorus. Good tune though and catchy as heck. I'd say that initially my favorite tunes are Delirious, When The Winter Ends & The Masquerade. It's all solid though and they're a very consistent band that definitely should be bigger. The new Darkness album Easter is Cancelled. Some decent songs on it, maybe one of their most diverse too. Gave this a few spins on Friday and I'm listening again now. The singles were not very instant for me but have grown on me quite a bit, and several album tracks were much more immediate upon my first listen of the album. The first half is very strong IMO. Some of the slower/acoustic stuff doesn't grab me as much (especially in the bonus tracks) but overall I'm enjoying the album. Not quite as much as Pinewood Smile (which I feel was their best since the debut) but still quite good.

It's not without it's misses, but overall it just adds to their legacy of being a great, great, modern guitar rock band. And what a comeback after disappearing completely for those years. They now have a body of work to be very proud of. Heavy Metal Lover is equal parts completely ridiculous and musical genius.

Decided to put the Whitesnake Slip of the Tongue 30th anniversary deluxe edition in Spotify on the journey to work today, wow it’s a really in-depth collection, loads of demos and assorted other versions. It’ll take me 2 full days to listen to it all. A definite treat for the diehards if you ask me. Surprised they went this far for this album, I’d always looked on it as a bit do a disappointment after the 87 album.
Speaking of anniversaries I saw today that Steel Panthers debut was ten years old, so I decided to pop their new one on, not impressed with it at all.

The Darkness' Easter Is Cancelled is growing on me (no pun intended) with each listen. Really enjoying most of it.
Moving on however, I'm diving back into Alter Bridge's discography as I'll be seeing them live for my second time on October 14. It's a coheadline show with a band I don't give a sh*t about so the shorter set will be disappointing but I'm looking forward to hearing some new stuff live.
