I’d like the next album to sound like a mix between Slang and Retro Active. Highly doubt that’d happen, but I realllllly love DSH so I’m personally happy with whatever the band releases! I predict mid-2025 release

I was not a fan of DSH at all. TWYW is a great song, so something more in that direction. I don't want to hear anymore country sounding crap. Also hoping the next album is not full of songs like Just Like 73. I want harder rocking songs. I have no issue with the odd Kick or Just Like 73 song on an album, as I like them. In fact I think if the album is due in the next 12 months that Just like 73 should be included. What I don't like is too many piano driven Mott the Hoople / Bowie inspired boring songs, too many tracks with a low register vocal delivery that makes the songs flat (energy and pace wise to my ears) and of course the country collaborations are not up my street at all. Hopefully they've got that out of their system now as DSH is right down there at the bottom of my Leps album list unfortunately. I've said it before on a few threads, I'd like a solid ten track album thats got a good mix of rock tracks, an epic with the odd mid-tempo and ballad thrown in. A similar blueprint to what Pyromania or Adrenalize was I'd say. To the point and 45 mins. No need to be too over blown or excessive.

I find it interesting that you and I differ in our enjoyment of DSH. I truly like the album but I agree with pretty much all of your critique. I like the piano based tracks. But do think they could have held at least 2 back for another album to keep the pace flowing a bit more on DSH.

Agree! I'm perfectly fine with the catchy glam tunes. But for me what held DSH back a bit was the 2 country tunes and the 2 piano ballads. I know some like those songs but for me the album is tighter and stronger without them and those aren't the kinds of Def Leppard songs that excite me. I do still like DSH though. But take those songs away and they were maybe one or two more rocking songs away from having a pretty killer album. One other thing in addition to some guitar driven rocking songs I'd like to see is a solid mid-tempo or power ballad type song. I feel like that has been missing on the past few albums. I'm talking something like a BOTH, TLFL or Hysteria type songs tempo/structure wise. It seems like all their ballads lately have been fairly boring piano type songs in a more eclectic style like you mention. One thing that make me scratch my head a bit though was I think I remember Sav saying in an interview that Take What You Want was one of the later songs done for DSH because they felt they were missing a guitar driven rocker. That kind of makes me wonder in a way. I mean, to me, this is the most obvious type of song they should be doing and it shouldn't have been an afterthought kind of song. I kind of wish things were reversed and they end up saying they have too many guitar driven rockers and need to add a more varied type song lol. I was not a fan of DSH at all. I kind of wish things were reversed and they end up saying they have too many guitar driven rockers and need to add a more varied type song lol. Aside from maybe less than a handful of tracks, I think that DSH lacks energy for me and is another album where a bit of quality control could have greatly enhanced it..... in other words cut the number of tracks down. The thing is that the band don't need new music to sell by the tonne and they can basically make what type of music they want to. As I said before, Viv's recent joke where he called Joe- Elton Joe is near the mark. They are in a position now where they can indulge whatever influence they want to and make no apologies for it. Years ago, whilst they were building their own musical identity, the influences were not as blatantly in your face as they were on a lot of DSH. I want to hear Def Leppard, not Def Leppard being Queen or Bowie or whoever, just because the band like those artists doesn't mean I have to. But now those influences are to the point where on some songs its not just providing an inspiration for a Leppard song its actually them completely copying a style, which is a massive difference. All that sounds really negative I know - but thats how I feel about some of those tracks they call a homage. Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased that their albums still garner good reviews and that fans still like them, but as they reach the twilight of their career what is wrong with making a Def Leppard album? Something that celebrates their sound rather than other artists?

I don't think you'll ever get less glam And I think Joe is past pushing now that he sounds a bit (or more) like Brian Johnson. Only so much to be done about that if you want to keep on.

Is there are happy medium between Slang, Euphoria, and Mirrorball's new tracks? Sav and Viv can write no wrong in my eyes - looking madly forward to their songs. How about the next box set? As long as they're still out there, working, and happy about it - what's to complain about?
Country music - that's where I can complain

I’d love the next album to be 10/11 songs and more focussed/to the point, a proper album rather than just a collection of songs where it’s frontloaded with the singles as tracks 1/2/3/4 a la self-titled/DSH. Hopefully all the focus on Pyromania on this tour will make them go down that route again so we end up with something of a tracklist like 1) Rocker 2) Single 3) Rocker 4) Ballad 5) Epic Then 6-10 with another single, another ballad, a couple of rockers and another epic to close out the album. And hopefully no fkn glam 🫣😂

They seem to like 73, so it may depend what they had brewing left over and what’s their mind frame during and after. I get the feeling it’ll be a little more to the point, a little less eccentric, but who knows. Fingers crossed they have fun with it, and not overthink it, and let it rock. I don’t mind this guitar, in fact I don’t mind any of the more country tinged songs. It’s the wanna be queen/mott/elton type ballads I can do without. Just not my cup of tea really.
