You're going away to a desert island, but you only have enough space to take ten albums with you.
You can take any type of album, studio, live, greatest hits.... but the only stipulation is that you are only allowed one album per artist (in other words you can only take one Def Leppard album).
What ten albums would you choose?

Wow...this is really hard lol...I probably should just pick all greatest hits albums to cover more bases but I feel like that's cheating a bit so sticking just to studio albums.
Def Leppard - Hysteria GNR - Appetite for Destruction Warrant - Cherry Pie Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet H.E.A.T - Tearing Down The Walls Skid Row - Slave To The Grind Firehouse - S/T Kissin' Dynamite - Not The End of the Road Motley Crue - Dr Feelgood Tesla - Mechanical Resonance

This needs some serious thought...I'll be back! Great poll btw andylgr. Always interesting to see what other bands Leo's fans are into. I've almost certainly forgotten 10 other blindingly obvious albums here! In no particular order:
- Def Leppard - Vault - Iron Maiden - Live after Death - Neil Young - Decade - Suede - Dog Man Star - Depeche Mode - Singles Collection - Crowded House - Together Alone - Alice in Chains - Facelift - Soundgarden - Superunknown - Headswim - Flood - Pearl Jam - Ten

I've almost certainly forgotten 10 other blindingly obvious albums here! I know I have. Seeing other peoples lists made me think of stuff like Alice in Chains Dirt, Skid Row Slave to the Grind, Pearl Jam Ten & even the Duran Duran Decade compilation to name just a few that I missed that I listen to a lot.

Funny, I was just thinking about my top 10 desert island albums, although my list only allowed studio albums, so I'm gonna "cheat" and do two lists here:-)!
My first choice would be Def Leppard's Hysteria (1987), by far my all time favourite album of any era or genre.
My second choice would be Operation: Mindcrime (1988) by Queensrÿche, it's an album that I've had in my collection for 35 years and I still listen to it on a regular basis.
My third would be Headless Cross (1989) by Black Sabbath. A lot of people slag off Tony Martin fronted Black Sabbath, but I think it's a fantastic album with some astounding vocals. Very atmospheric and dark with a sinister undertone.
My fourth choice, Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits Ultimate Collection (2010). Bon Jovi was my gateway to hard rock (I discovered them slightly before I discovered Def Leppard) and I'm taking this compilation over the more famous compilation Cross Road (1994) for a couple of reasons. First and foremost It includes Born To Be My Baby which for some strange reason, Cross Road didn't. Also it spans a longer period of time, and even though all of their albums after These Days (1995) have been pretty weak, there are still one or two good songs on every album.
My fifth choice would be Achtung Baby by U2, I'm not really fond of U2, but I still think this is a brilliant album.
'80's Hard rock was my first musical love, but I've come to appreciate many more traditional rock/soft rock bands and artists over the years as well. Artists like Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac (the "American" "version" from 1975 and onwards mostly) , Eagles, Don Henley, Tom Waits. So:
Sixth: Fleetwood Mac's The Very Best of (2002). I don't think they have one single studio album, even Rumours, that edges a compilation
Seventh: The Complete Greatest Hits (released as The Very Best of in some territories), I don't think they have one single studio album even, Hotel California, that edges a compilation
Eight: Don Henley The Very Best of, I don't think he has one single studio album even, Hotel California, that edges a compilation
Ninth: Led Zeppelin Mothership (compilation), I find all their studio albums pretty uneven, so a compilation is perfect
Tenth: Tom Waits Rain Dogs, I really like his early stuff, and find a lot of his later more avantgarde stuff unlistenable, and Rain Dogs has some stuff on it that I won't listen to, but it also has Downtown Train which may be my single favourite song of all time regardless of genre.
So, that's my top 10 with compilations included, with compilations excluded it would look like this:
1. Def Leppard: Hysteria 2. Queensrÿche: Operation: Mindcrime 3. Black Sabbath: Headless Cross 4. Bon Jovi: New Jersey, I favour this one over Slippery When Wet slightly 5. U2: Achtung Baby 6. Tom Waits: Rain Dogs 7. Diana Krall: When I look In Your Eyes, as much as love rock music, it's nice to have something different to listen to 8. Led Zeppelin: Physical Graffiti, I actually like latter days Led Zep better than their first four ones 9. Dua Lipa: Future Nostalgia, again, something else than rock music, Dua Lipa is one of very few "new" artists that I listen to. Some say a lot of her music rips of other songs and melodies but I don't care and think she's fabulous. Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind bringing Dua Lipa herself to a desert island. 10. Don Henley: Building the Perfect Beast, becasue it has The Boys of Summer on it, and that's probably my favourite song of all time regardless of genre alongside Downtown Train.

Also it spans a longer period of time, and even though all of their albums after These Days (1995) have been pretty weak, there are still one or two good songs on every album. For me Mindcrime is one of the few albums that I own where I just don't skip a song, its flows so well and when you consider its a concept album thats a really difficult thing to achieve. A masterpiece. I've got a couple of the Tony Martin Sabbath songs in my spotify 80's rock playlist, very underrated and I wonder if it had gone under another name if it would have been more fondly remembered? Theres a boxset coming soon I believe. The travesty of that Bon Jovi 2010 compilation is the way they chop Lay Hands on Me. Cross Road is perfect, its up there with Vault as a great compilation of hits that will be hard to better, but you're right some of the omissions are odd. But then again when you have so many hits I guess something has to go. Like you I was into Bon Jovi with SWW before Leps and I think that paved the way for me to get in to the Leps and other rock music in general.

Yes, I believe all Tony Martin albums will be compiled in a box set set for release in May hopefully. I'm looking forward to that because most of those Tony Martin BS CD's are out of print or very difficult and expensive to find.

This is a tough one. For every album I include there’s at least 2-3 more from the same band that I hate leaving out.
There’s also about 10 bands that I’m just leaving out that might get on this list on a different day. I intentionally left out greatest hits as that’s what I would include here in some cases. Here’s what I got today:
Def Leppard - HYSTERIA Metallica - METALLICA Van Halen - 5150 Aerosmith - PUMP Stone Temple Pilots - CORE Alice In Chains - DIRT Pearl Jam - TEN Soundgarden -SUPERUNKNOWN Live - THROWING COPPER Harem Scarem - MOOD SWINGS

Trying to decide while considering compilations/live albums was too much pressure, so I stuck with studio albums.
1. Def Leppard - Slang 2. Foo Fighters - Wasting Light 3. Aerosmith - Rocks 4. Garbage - Bleed Like Me 5. Stone Temple Pilots - Purple 6. Ghost - Impera 7. Breaking Benjamin - Dear Agony 8. Alter Bridge - Fortress 9. The Darkness - Permission To Land 10. Steel Panther - Feel The Steel

1. Def Leppard - Hysteria 2. Def Leppard - Pyromania Since edwardcreighton broke the islands strict import rules by also bringing in 2 albums from the same artist, Desert Island custom officials have ramped up security checks on the way in. Unfortunately they’ve now confiscated these 2 albums and replaced them with Val Doonicans greatest hits and Des Oconnor’s Christmas album (you may have to google them).

Interesting to see Steel Panther get a few votes with their first 2 albums, Feel the Steel and Balls Out. Have to say that I'm a big fan of those 2 as well.
