Helen L. Collen talks about photographic exhibit in New York City BY MARKOS PAPADATOS Fine art photographer Helen L. Collen is the wife of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Phil Collen of Def Leppard. She chatted about her photographic exhibit on May 20 at 393 Broadway in Manhattan. This "Gratitude" event will take place at 393 Broadway in New York City, where it will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5p.m. "New York feels like coming home," she said. "It is extremely ecstatic relief. It's like a dream come true to do this in my hometown." It is curated by veteran rocker Phil Collen of Def Leppard and produced by Jody Britt of Britt Fine Art Consulting. Her exhibit will be comprised of 50 pieces of work. "I did a gallery showing in Los Angeles, which was called 'Gratitude.' I have been shooting fervently for the past six years, and I realized that my work started to overflow everything. My husband suggested that I get a website, which I did," she said. This photographic exhibit is special since it will take place one day before her son, Jaxson's, first birthday. "This exhibit will be double the celebration," she said. "I am looking forward to this event. It is going to be amazing," she said. A native of Brooklyn, Collen is stoked with the fact that her husband, Phil, the lead guitarist of Def Leppard was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past March. "That was great and long overdue," she said. "It happened at the right place at the right time. It has been a really good year." To learn more about the photographic work of Helen L. Collen, check out her official website. Source

Review: Helen L. Collen hosts 'Gratitude' fine art photographic exhibit SPECIAL BY MARKOS PAPADATOS 8 HOURS AGO IN ENTERTAINMENTNew York - On May 20, acclaimed photographer Helen L. Collen hosted "Gratitude: A Fine Art Photographic Exhibit" at 393 Broadway in New York. This photographic exhibit was curated by her husband, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Phil Collen, the lead guitarist of Def Leppard. It was produced by Jody Britt of Britt Fine Art Consulting. It featured approximately 50 unique pieces of photographic work. "Thanks to everyone for believing in me and for liking something that you can do yourself, but appreciating what I bring to the table," Helen said. When asked how it feels to be a photographer in the digital age, Helen responded, "The same way it felt to be a photographer in the Polaroid age." "I am excited to have a website now, which to be honest was my husband's idea. This allows people to see my photos and share them. It's a positive thing," she said. Even in her high school days, Helen envisioned that she would be a "visual artist" at this stage of her life. "From a very young age, I knew that I was not a '9 to 5' desk person," she admitted. "Whatever the art was going to be revealed itself later in stages," she added. For Helen, success is a "never-ending journey." "There is no real success since when you reach a specific goal, there is always something else to achieve," she said. This event was extra special for the Collen family since they celebrated the first birthday of their son, Jaxson, with blue balloons and cake. For more information on photographer Helen L. Collen and her work, visit her official homepage. Debbi Blackwell-Cook, the lead songstress from Collen's blues side project, Delta Deep was also in attendance. Source

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Phil Collen of Def Leppard opens up BY MARKOS PAPADATOS 3 HOURS AGO IN MUSICNew York - On May 20, Phil Collen of the acclaimed rock group Def Leppard sat down and chatted with this journalist at a photographic exhibit in the heart of New York City. The iconic rocker curated his wife, Helen L. Collen's "Gratitude" fine art photographic exhibit at 393 Broadway. "This is wonderful because I missed the last one in Los Angeles," he said. "It is great to see these photos since I remember when a lot of them were taken. It is nice to see everything come full circle." Collen revealed that he will be flying off to Europe to perform at the European festivals with Def Leppard. "After Europe, we will go to Canada and Las Vegas," he said. This summer, from August 14 to September 7, Def Leppard will kick off "The Sin City Residency" at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. "We've performed in Las Vegas before," Collen admitted. "We will be there for almost a month so that will be cool." On being a recording artist in this digital age, Collen responded, "We've always stepped up to whatever is there. We've embraced everything really. Technology is a great way to get your music out there. There are always things out there." Regarding the recent passage of the Music Modernization Act (MMA), Collen said, "Publishers were supposed to protect us. Like everything, laws are made and people break them all the time. We need as much protection as we can get." Most recently, this past March, Collen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as the lead guitarist of Def Leppard. The band garnered the largest number in the fan vote component. "The fan vote was amazing," he said. "That was the most important part about it. We are really appreciative of our fans because they really stepped up." What made that night in Brooklyn extra special for the band was Dr. Brian May of Queen inducted them into the hallowed Rock Hall. Aside from Def Leppard, Collen is also a part of the blues side project, Delta Deep where he plays lead guitar and is featured on the vocals, along with Debbi Blackwell-Cook on vocals, Forrest Robinson on percussion and drums and Robert DeLeo on bass. Photo by Gary Hahn In their personal lives, Phil and Helen are celebrating the first birthday of their baby son, Jaxson. "It is all happening, so the trick is to keep at it, and good things will happen," he said. For his fans and supporters, Collen said, "Thanks for staying by us. Come down and check us out." I wonder if Helen will be selling any print copies to purchase. I have a piece of Rick Allen art and a piece of Helen's work would be a nice addition to my collection. She has always been kind and gracious everytime I've met her.
