Was it a Mistake to Cut the Chatter between Songs on Live In Detroit??
Having gone through it I think its a mistake to cut the between song chatter. It loses some of the connection that you see the band have with the crowd and I see no reason why its cut, its not like its an overly long show. It just makes it look like a soulless collection of live songs where the band has no interaction with the crowd and nothing to say, almost like they've turned up played a show and got off home as quick as possible. The build up to the intro should have been left in too. The point where the house lights go down and you get more of the curtain up and the atmosphere building.

I totally agree Andy -- I'm really unhappy that all the between songs chatter was left out. The only reason I can come up with for omitting it is that AXS TV dictated the length based on how much time is available in a two hour broadcast slot after the inclusion of TV commercials is factored in.

They cut the chatter? I expected this to be basically a full concert. I could understand a separate edited version for TV...But this should've been the full show. Is the chatter cut all out of the CDs also? Best part of live shows to me is the banter and crowd interactions. Having gone through it I think its a mistake to cut the between song chatter. Yep it's almost all gone. Only Rick's introduction ahead of ROA is included and also a couple of places where Joe is talking over a song intro. The ~95 minute show has been cut to about 88 minutes. I haven't listened to the CDs, but I saw someone post on FB that the chatter is missing from them as well.

As a KISS fan... What chatter? Kidding!
I love band interaction with the crowd, shame it's not there, it makes the show unique.

Thank you for the heads up on this. Can't find the DVD/CD package but only the blue ray set..lol..
I know some fans love this but I personally hate it as I miss the interaction with the fans and so forth.
Will still get this eventually if I can find the plain CD/DVD set.

I just finished watching it and I would agree that they should have kept the chatter. It adds so much to the show. But it was still fun watching it. I'm so excited for the tour to start! No better feeling in the world than being at a Def Leppard show.

Keep the chatter, I always love it when the singer makes personal references to a city. Back in 1987 / 1988 when i saw Lepps 3 times in Belfast he raved about the crowd (though he may say that to all the girls!). I saw Sabbath in Vienna last year not sure Ozzy knew where he was! Bet when Lepps play Alabama when Joe has his acoustic guitar out, he let's rip with a few bars of Sweet Home ....

YES!! Honestly...I haven't purchased it yet and now, knowing this, I have decided not to buy it at all. For me...the last two tours have sounded exactly the same. Their setlists are THE SAME and I fear the same will happen this year. That's why I was so excited for the cruise...for more of Viva type stuff, thinking they'd mix it up, but we all know how that went. So then I thought that at least with the chatter it might be worth it. I love to hear their scripted convo with the crowd...even if I do know it by heart. Now they've cut that out?!?!?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my band but they seriously need to change things up...and SOON!!!

No better feeling in the world than being at a Def Leppard show. Maybe it's easier to delete the chatter than trying to mute out the constant stream of "F This", "F That", "F You", "F Me", "F-ing Yeah" that the inebriated audience members seem compelled to scream at the top of their lungs between tunes

I agree. Taking the chatter out between songs makes it less like a concert experience...even if it's just on video, or audio. It's a shame that someone felt the need to make such edits to a Def Leppard Live recording. I hope this kind of disappointment is something the band gets wind of, and it's not repeated again if, and when they do another Live DVD.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my band but they seriously need to change things up...and SOON!!! Well, there is that "talk" of them adding something else from the 'Hysteria' album on the upcoming tour. I don't know though. I guess I'll believe it when I hear it with my own ears. Do I want to hear a deeper cut from the album? Hell yeah! Do I honestly think they'll do it though? Let's just say I'm VERY skeptical! I think, and I could be wrong, but I think with 3 bands on the bill, it makes it even less likely they'll feel the need to mess with the set list, or production since this tour is such a short run. If they get a new album out in 2018 in time to tour the summer of 2018, yeah, they need to start making some production changes, and hopefully different touring partners. I know it's unlikely, but I'd love to see another "An Evening With Def Leppard" tour!

I personally dont see what all the fuss is about. Yeah, I like to see and hear the band interact with the audiance. But, its still an awesome concert. Im glad i bought it and have watched it 2 times and listened to the cds in my truck once. The songs are always gonna be the main focus on a dvd/ bluray.

I was expecting to get the full concert experience and I do miss the chatter in between. That said, the video is really good quality and you get to see all the angles, which is fun, and it clearly shows how much effort they put into it. I'm glad to have it, but a little disappointed, too.

They'd rather tour and play than have shows littered with camera crews and queuing unless it was a major event. Which in bringing that up I think that's what happened with this new release. They most likely weren't big on it and this popular old school rock/metal TV channel wanted to record it and they decided to also participate in the process. If the TV channel wasn't I don't think this would have happened in my eyes. With that though they took that thought process onto the stage with them - not like a normal show, can't talk as much, keep things short, play good, and be professional. All indications are that Joe came up with the idea to film a 2016 show and the band's team set about hiring someone to do it. As for the show itself..... all the usual between songs chatter occurred -- it just wasn't included on the CD/blu-ray/DVD.

I'll be honest. I haven't watched it or listened to it yet (it's been a crazy week). I plan on watching it tomorrow. I love the banter between songs. I have watched/heard Viva Hysteria so many times that when I hear the end of Promises, I expect to hear "Go and replace your drinks. We'll see you in 20 minutes. Thank you!"

I watched it kinda knowing what to expect. The main commentary that I did miss and wish could have been left in was Viv's intro and Sav's before Rock On but other than those two I loved the entire show. Best shot DVD I think. Love having something up to date. Great job! Didn't really miss the commentary that much but would have liked to have it in with a bit more from the crowd. Did miss RA intro too. So it's a bit of yes and no. I feel the guys knew what they wanted is why it turned out the way it did.
