Interesting Tour Package “The future is a lot of touring,” predicted bassist Jeff Pilson during a recent appearance on the Double Stop podcast. And not just any touring, either — in step with the recent Foreigner tradition of heading out as part of value-added package tours, the band will have company on the road next year. “We’re gonna go out with Kid Rock this summer, which will be really interesting,” continued Pilson. “I think that’s going to be expose us to a different audience that I think is gonna be shocked at how much they enjoy us — which I always love doing. That’s the best kind of tour to do.” SourceI'll be honest i'm glad it's not Def Leppard teaming up with Kid Rock

Agree, there is a limit to these value added tours. A leppard kid rock tie up would be terrible, who would headline? I wouldn't go if leppard opened. Leppard megadeth? Leppard rush? Leppard Tim McGraw? Whitesnake works, tesla even better!

If the rumours are true regarding a visit to Oz in 2015, I've got my fingers crossed for a Lep/The Darkness pairing. The Darkness should also have an album out in 2015 and had to cancel their most recent tour down under so they're overdue.
I think they'd be a perfect second band as a drawcard, and without the "who's headlining?" question.

This seems a strange pairing to me, yet I can't reconcile Foreigner with no Lou Gramm.
Leps /Darkness was a great pairing back in 2003, I think it would work now too.

The 2015 version of Foreigner is a perfect example of Hit Songs being stronger than any single member of the band. You pretty much have a cover band playing those songs now and they sound great live. It wouldn't work for all bands but for them it does. I think the darkness fall into the 1 hit wonder category.... do they still get decent crowds in the U.K.? Who would pull in more fans The Darkness or Whitesnake?

Whitesnake for sure. The Darkness had their big hits in the early 00's but to my knowledge the last albums didn't do anything

However if they added The Darkness as the opening act then that's a good bill for the UK as they certainly weren't one hit wonders here.

It just proves some fans don't care who is in the band. For die hard fans like us the band is just as important as the music they write. But i have no doubt that casual fans would still go see def leppard even if certain members retired. As scary as that idea sounds. If it was just Joe up there crowds would still go see them. My Hope is that when they decide to retire that it's as a band and not slowly one by one. But hopefully that's a long way off. Whitesnake hands down. However if they added The Darkness as the opening act then that's a good bill for the UK as they certainly weren't one hit wonders here. Oh ok yeah i can see that. Personally i would like to see them tour with a Newer band that can pull in younger fans. Someone like H.E.A.T. who are on the edge of being massive. These guys are going to be a big arena act in Europe in the next 5 years and it would be cool if leppard gave them the opportunity to get in front of big crowds.

I've seen Kid Rock twice, and I must say, he is a hell of an entertainer. As is the current Foreigner lineup. Everybody says a lot of crap about the absence of Lou Gramm, but if you compare the current state of Lou's singing abilities with Kelly Hansen's, they're not even comparable. Sure, Kelly Hansen isn't anywhere on the same level of songwriter as Lou Gramm, and probably not as good of a vocalist as Lou used to be, but he is a better performer now. And the chemistry and energy of the current Foreigner on stage is incredible. You can't even compare it to that of the run down Lou Gramm and the conflicts he has with Mick.
Back to Kid Rock. I definitely agree that a Kid Rock & Def Leppard tour would be a disaster. Kid Rock is great live but those two just wouldn't work out. Kid Rock and Foreigner should be really fun though. Foreigner can get the house rocking' the way an opening band is supposed to do. I really hope they play a setlist like in 2006 supporting Styx and Lep though, and hold the ballads.

It just shows that some people aren't interested in who is performing the songs. It's a tribute band in all but name. I can't believe you just ran lou Gramm into the ground, an icon in rock who has been rebuilding his career after suffering from a brain tumour that played havoc with his voice and health. Imagine Def Leppard touring with just Rick Savage as the only original member with the rest of the positions being filled by new guys. Would that be ok? Whitesnake hands down. HEAT would be great, but arguably promoters may play it safe to guarantee a good turn out with more established bands on the bill.

Def Leppard with Sav and a bunch of noobs would be very strange. However, one of the differences I see is about how into a band you are. Being super into Def Leppard, none of us want to see that. But if you take a band like Foreigner that has had so many lineup changes with only Mick and Lou being the prominent members and songwriters, the band as a whole means less. Do I think that this Foreigner is the REAL Foreigner? No. Mick Jones hasn't even been at half the shows I've seen recently, which makes it even more of a glorified tribute band. But they are an AMAZING tribute band. They are so much fun to see live, why should you let personnel changes get in the way of having a good time? I think if people like Foreigner's music, they are better off going to see this Foreigner than Lou Gramm solo. It's kind of like people not wanting to see Nine Inch Nails live, because it is Trent Reznor surrounded by a bunch of random touring musicians that don't play on the albums. If it's still the songs you wanna hear, performed very well, and everyone is having a good time, then go enjoy yourself. If you refuse to go see a band because of a conflict between members that you have no control over, then so be it.

Kid Rock & Foreigner is a really strange pairing.
I'm only a casual Foreigner fan (having the 2CD greatest hits thing and a live disc w/ the somewhat current lineup, though 'Records' was one of the first CDs I got as a kid after all of Def Leppard's albums and a Weird Al CD!), but I will say I enjoyed their opening set in 2007 quite a bit. Way more than I enjoyed Styx. Foreigner is a band that I wouldn't pay to see headline but would gladly accept as an opener.
While I agree that they are a glorified tribute band, the current lineup puts on a great show and more than does the music justice. Much like when I saw Sweet back in August with only one original member (I think). I agree that how much it matters depends on how big of a fan you are. For me at 28 (yikes), seeing bands like Foreigner, Sweet, Thin Lizzy, etc. in some form is better than nothing since I didn't have the chance to see the originals.
Which makes seeing bands like Def Leppard and Aerosmith that much more special since their lineups are intact.

I don't think a Kid Rock Def Lep tour would be that bad, but it would be casual fan city. I saw KR and Bon Jovi and it worked rather well. KR obviously toned down some of his more explicit songs, but it was a win win for the crowd. Obviously I would want DL to headline, but KR is actually amazing live, and has come a lonnnnnnnnng way since the rap/rock days of 99.
I'm not the biggest KR fan, but what I appreciate most about KR is he doesn't overcharge his ticket prices. He took a pay cut last tour for the $20 tour he did and it was a massive success.

KR is very popular in US so imagine Lepp would be special guest? For me that would make it a non starter. The Kiss thing I hope was a one off. 75 minutes is a teaser, give me 105 minutes.
Foreigner some classic cuts, Jukebox Hero is a mighty track. They pulled good numbers in the UK last year headlining sell out shows to 2,000 per night so they must do something right.

Foreigner have some great songs. It doesn't matter to me whether they are playing to 20 or 20,000 people a night, I still think it's a tribute act as they stand now.
