Read the interview/watch the video here.Excerpt: The same conflict of schedules means Down 'n' Outz has no shows on the books at the moment. Elliott himself has a few more shows with Def Leppard -- inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year -- coming up, including the Exit 111 festival Oct. 12 in Manchester, TN, and another Nov. 2 in Sacramento, Calif. before taking a break until the spring of 2020. "We kind of fire up again towards late April, early May," Elliott says. "So far everything's penciled in, nothing in ink yet. That'll happen over this winter."http://instagr.am/p/B3aEa4bhX6I

Razor’s Edge Album Review: Down 'n' Outz - This Is How We Roll
Down ‘n’ Outz may not be a band name that many readers are familiar with but when you hear who the outfit is comprised of you will recognise a number of household names.
The project is the brainchild of 2019 Hall of Fame inductee and Def Leppard legend Joe Elliott. The band he has put together is really a who's who of the rock n roll elite. Alongside Joe is Paul Guerin, Guy Griffin and Keith Wier (The Quireboys), Share Ross (Vixen) and Phil Martini (Wayward Sons). Thus rightly claiming the supergroup title.
This October the band release their latest album ‘This Is How We Roll’ a rock and roll masterpiece for a new generation.
Opening with ‘Another Mans War’ you get a wonderful feel of The Who with the keyboard introduction harking back to said bands classics, an intro that builds the atmosphere before the rest of the band kick. The up tempo tune setting the scene for what Elliott wants to achieve with this recording.
Down 'n' OutzTitle track ‘This Is How We Roll’ has a wonderful guitar lick of an intro that immediately pulls you in. Again the pace of the track is frenetic, but has a more bluesy feel, pushing Elliotts vocal range, but also that of each and every musician performing on the track.
It’s not all fast-paced though as the somber ballad ‘Goodbye Mr. Jones’ kicks in. A lyrically moving track, softly delivered that will no doubt have the lighters (or is it mobile phone flashlights these days?) raised in the air when performed live.
Throughout the album the keyboards are put to good use, and often with inspirational experimentation. The intro to creatures is magical and the song as a whole has a completely different feel. Experimental yet radio friendly, if this isn’t a hit I’ll eat my hat!
Elliott and his Down ‘n’ Outz have produced an outstanding record in ‘This Is How We Roll’. Experimenting outside the confines of their usual bands they have delivered on all fronts to produce a modern day classic.

I was asked to go on a girls' cruise in May of next year and I told them I had to find out Def Leppard's tour schedule before I commit to the cruise. My life revolves around Def Leppard.

This album is amazing! Joe sounds phenomenal, and he and the band did a excellent job capturing that 70s piano rock vibe.

Listening through for my second time right now. Really enjoying the album. Joe's writing never ceases to grab me.
How can you not smile when "Creatures" comes on? It's... Goofy, for lack of a better word. Great stuff.

I finally got my copy of the album. CD was released a week later than elsewhere by Amazon Canada for some reason. It's been worth the wait. Fantastic release. I'm also impressed that the time and money was put into a booklet with the lyrics these days. Truly a labor of love by Joe and the band.

Hot Press album review: By Edwin McFee Rock supergroup return with a roar Ten years ago, Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott indulged his inner Victor Frankenstein and assembled a new creation, Down ‘n’ Outz, to pay tribute to the extended Mott The Hoople family. Now free from the shackles of playing cover versions, the band have become their own monster. Their third album is a treasure trove of (mostly) original music, indebted to the wonderfully OTT sounds of the ’70s. Also featuring fellow veterans from The Quireboys and Vixen, This Is How We Roll is a rockin’ romp down memory lane. In particular, Elliott thrives away from the pressures of his day job. Written and recorded over the past five years, and driven by bar-room pianos and Mick Ronson-style guitars, the likes of ‘Another Man’s War’ and ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ (not that one) are guaranteed party-starters. Elsewhere, the Elton John-steeped ballad ‘Let It Shine’ shows off the band’s considerable musical chops; ‘Music Box’ is an enjoyable oddity; and the ‘Life On Mars’-flavoured ‘Goodnight Mr. Jones’ is a fitting tribute to the Thin White Duke. Music review: Down ’n’ Outz – ‘This Is How We Roll’ By Clint Rhodes For the Herald-Standard With Def Leppard’s 2019 tour completed, now comes the announcement that the British icons will be joining fellow rockers Mötley Crüe and Poison for a stadium tour in 2020. Additionally, Def Leppard fans have another reason to be excited. Frontman Joe Elliott’s side project has just released a new album. Originally formed as a tribute to the influence of Mott the Hoople, Down ’n’ Outz delivers a generous helping of classic rock straight out of the 1970s with “This Is How We Roll.” It’s the band’s third album and features Elliott on vocals, Paul Guerin and Guy Griffin (Quireboys) on guitars, Share Ross (Vixen) on bass, Phil Martini (Wayward Sons) on drums and Keith Weir (Quireboys) on keyboards. The new album was recorded over a five-year period and contains 11 new arrangements penned by Elliott and one cover track. The album opener, “Another Man’s War,” loads up the ammo and pounds out a piano and guitar aural assault that draws influence from Ian Hunter’s “England Rocks” from 1977. The title track is a straightforward rocker that salutes the band’s lifestyle as it carries a Humble Pie vibe with a gang of guitars keeping pace with Elliott’s spirited vocals as he declares, “If you wanna play/You gotta pay the toll.” Elliott crafts a touching tribute to David Bowie with “Goodnight Mr. Jones.” While Bowie may be gone, Elliott demonstrates Bowie’s influence on his career with a number that has the comforting feel of Bowie’s “Life on Mars” and features a beautiful guitar solo by Guerin. The 60-year-old Elliott sounds as good today as he did back in 1983, belting out rock anthems like “Photograph,” “Foolin’” and “Rock of Ages” from Def Leppard’s “Pyromania.” Elliott offers a strong performance on “Last Man Standing.” Filled with piano, lush harmonies and light orchestration, the tune speaks about coming to terms with our mortality and the continuous search for a meaningful existence. Other highlights include the reflective “Walking to Babylon,” the whimsical “Creatures” and a muscular cover of the Tubes’ “White Punks on Dope.” With the majority of the album possessing influences from a variety of artists, “Boys Don’t Cry” is a rousing number that channels the rock attitude of Def Leppard as Elliott sings, “You’ve got to live your life like it’s the last day on earth.” “This Is How We Roll” is proof that after 40-plus years of dishing out solid rock music, Elliott is anything but down and out. Review of the latest album. Startled the heck out of me because I don't have the actual album--I bought the digital version--and so I was not aware that (according to these two reviewers) the liner notes say Phil apparently engineered this album? Did anyone else know that? Is that even true? I guess since Debbi Blackwell-Cook sings on the album, maybe that's where Phil comes in?

Watch Down ’N’ Outz hail the Creatures of the universe in handcrafted new video By Scott Munro (Classic Rock) Down ’N’ Outz have released a lyric video for their new single Creatures exclusively with Classic Rock. The band is fronted by Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, with the song featured on their latest album This is How We Roll, which launched back in October. The video shows a handcrafted world full of paper planes, flying saucers, rockets, graph paper forests, and a cornucopia of origami creatures large and small. Elliott tells Classic Rock: “When I wrote the music for this I just had this weird feeling I was writing something very different to anything I’d written before. “For a start, it was written on the piano but it was jaunty, vaudeville – almost a summary of the stuff that really intrigued me in my youth when artists like David Bowie, Roxy Music, Cockney Rebel and Queen embraced a very European style of writing. “I knew the lyrics had to follow suit so it’s a stream of conscious type thing, very cinematic, dreamy… don’t ask me what it’s all about!” Elliott is joined in Down ’N’ Outz by by Quireboys' guitarist Paul Guerin, guitarist Guy Griffin, keyboardist Keith Weir, Vixen bassist Share Ross, and drummer Phil Martini. Until the video shows up on YouTube, you can watch it HERE.

This came up on my playlist in the car a couple of days ago. My youngest daughter pointed out that the song sounds like it should be in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I think she's right! I'd love to see that happen.
