It's interesting. Getting a couple of covers when we have a new studio album on the way is just a bonus.
Perhaps the most shocking part of the whole thing is that Heart would dare to cover someone other than Zeppelin.

Seeing The Beatles on TV is what spurred Ann and Nancy Wilson to become musicians.

The artists gathered together for this project are themselves experts in the crafts of songwriting and performing, so it’s fascinating to hear their reflections on McCartney’s music and their interpretations of his songs. Watching The Who’s Roger Daltrey deliver a shattering Helter Skelter is simply breathtaking… Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott recalls that at the tender age of four he was already entertaining relatives with Love Me Do… While Dion reminisces about hearing The Beatles’ Drive My Car for the first time, while at the wheel of his Thunderbird Convertible driving round the Bronx… We even get to eavesdrop Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart comparing the parental similarities of the Wilsons and the McCartneys. OMGosh, I'm excited. My favorite Macca stuff is Wings-era. Can't wait to hear Joe's rendition of 'Hi Hi Hi' and Lepps' 'Helen Wheels', both such great songs!

I finally sat through that (hilarious) video and think we could hear a great vocal from Joe on "Helen Wheels." Kind of gives me a bit of a "Who Do You Love" kind of vibe, which I guess makes sense considering the era.
Can't wait to get my hands on these recordings though.

Quote from Joe Elliott from yesterdays Interview in the Bob & Coe show. LISTEN HEREJoe on The Art of McCartney"Yeah doubly honoured to be involved to be quite honest. When they were putting the album together we were kind hoping that we would get Helen Wheels...because You know when there's a compilation record gonna be put together as a tribute to an artist people are clamouring for what they consider to be their favourite song and sometimes you get four or five artists trying to get the same song and then management politics get involved and it's like well I'm not doing it if he's got it. We were really lucky that the songs that we wanted we got. So Leppard did Helen Wheels and then you know as somebody that knows Macca's band quite well. Brian Ray, Rusty Anderson and Abe Laboriel. I know these guys...I've never been too much in the inner circle of McCartney. I did meet him when they played Dublin Ireland about four years ago. But the slightly outer circle which is his band. I've always been part of it cause a lot of our crew have worked with McCartney in the past so that's always been my in. These guys are really nice. They've always been really kind to me and they always get the wine out and offer you a drink before the gigs starts. They're good to hang out with they're funny people. They kind of made overtures towards having me involved in this so they're the band on Hi Hi Hi which I thought was a great honour." Joe on Meeting Paul McCartney"Yes, I met Paul in Dublin, Ireland at the RDS Arena when they played on outdoor show here in about 2009...2010 I think it was. I was talking to Abe Laboriel his drummer. Beautiful guy...Beautiful human being and he says you've never met Paul have you. And I said nah nah and then all of a sudden Paul came out of his trailer with a cup of tea and he shouted him over and he came over and we had a fifteen minute chat and he was very sweet. He was very very sweet."

I'm wondering if some smart TV guy will pitch the idea of a show featuring the artists from the tribute album singing their contribution live. I'd love to see that happen.

Producer Ralph Sall describes the process of putting the all-star tribute album together. Excerpt: If Sall does go after another volume of the tribute, he can certainly count on The Art of McCartney participants to sing the praises of project. "It's extremely flattering -- even moreso when we found out who else was involved in it," says Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott, whose group recorded "Helen Wheels" while he joined McCartney's band for "High, High High." "The fact that we got asked and then lo and behold separately I got asked to do a song with his band on my own was even more of a kind of a 'stop me and pinch me and see if I'm still awake' moment. It's a great thing to be involved in and a pleasure to do. I don't care who you are — the Beatles and (McCartney) are all part of our house of cards." Read the entire article.

So I finally listened to the songs. I've never been much of a fan of McCartney or the Beatles. I enjoyed "Helen Wheels," it's a neat track with a solid vocal from Joe. Absolutely no desire to see it live, however. But it's a decent little holdover until the new music arrives.
Not as big on "Hi Hi Hi."
